2 ORDERING DETAILS & TABLE OF CONTENTS ORDERING & RETURN POLICIES Call Us to Order Today All orders can be placed via online, mail, fax, , or telephone. All orders shipped to a Pennsylvania address are subject to 6% sales tax. All orders paid by personal checks will be held 7 business days for bank clearance. For any returned/bad checks there will be an additional charge. Master Card, Visa, Discover, & American Express accepted for all purchases. Before installing a part please check your existing part to make sure the new part is correct before installing. We are not responsible for wrong applicational use. Please ask when ordering if you are unsure. 2. All parts listed are new (except as noted), exact fit items that have been field tested in our Metropolitan restorations and will perform as the original parts or better. Most parts include needed installation hardware/gaskets at no extra charge. 3. New Parts: Refunds will be given within 90 days of your purchase provided the part(s) are shipped to us postpaid. Any returns after 90 days will be store credit only. No returns after 1 year for any reason. Refunds will be given for any reason as long as the part is returned to us in the same condition that we shipped it and you enclose a copy of your dated receipt. We will pay your shipping if the part is defective or there was an error on our part. We will only pay actual ground freight. When returning a part, if the part is deemed not defective, the customer would pay any return freight to them and any testing fees. For rebuilt items you must call first to get a return authorization from us. Backordered parts will be shipped free of charge as long as it s not a special order item or a discontinued item that becomes available. If we do not receive cores in a timely fashion we can backorder the item but will not ship for free, if you buy a rebuilt item from us please return it ASAP so we can supply the part to another Met owner. All credit slips will be e mailed to your e mail address. Other than this refund policy there is no warrantee expressed or implied unless superseded by a manufacturer s warranty. Metropolitan Parts, Inc. will not be responsible or liable for labor, incidental, or consequential damages of any kind. Our maximum liability shall not exceed the cost of the product/part and as such does not include any shipping charges unless it was an error on our part or the item is defective. Used Parts: All used parts are sold as is with no warrantee expressed or implied. Used parts are not returnable without prior authorization. Returns can only be accepted on an exchange basis for a replacement with the same used part unless a prior authorization is granted by us for a store credit. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. No exchanges or credits will be given without a copy of your dated receipt. 4. There will be no returns on fuel, engine, bearings, upholstery, etc. items once installed unless it was an error on our part, or if the packaging has been opened. No returns on electrical parts unless defective, no exceptions. Please contact us with any questions on any of these part(s) returns. On all special order items please contact us for return authorization before returning these parts. Some special order items are not returnable and you must send a copy of your invoice. 5 On all rebuilt items, all core charges must be paid at the time of the order. This charge will be refunded to you once we receive your complete rebuildable core. There will be a core charge refund deduction for missing / unoriginal / broken parts. If parts are missing/broken we will give a partial core refund. 6. Once package is shipped our responsibility ends. If a package is delivered (Verified by FedEx or USPS tracking) and the package is stolen from your property, it s a police matter. We are not responsible for stolen packages at any time. 7. Starred items are special order items that will take longer to ship to you and will cost additional shipping. These parts are generally not returnable. 8. We are constantly adding to our inventory. If you see a part that you need that is not listed please visit our website or contact us. 9. We reserve the right to refuse business to anyone for any reason. We also reserve the right to rescind free Shipping/Handling if abused with returns. 10. 3 Order METROPOLITAN ID TAG LOCATIONS All ID tags are available from us to purchase on line or by phone. Our part number is listed under the picture of each tag. Engines were painted green (part number EN124) aerosol spray can. ENGINE IDENTIFICATION - All engine serial number tags are stamped on an aluminum tag that is cold riveted to the right side of the engine. They are right under the head in the center of the block cc, A Series - All engine serial numbers begin with the prefix 1G starting with engine number 1G Austin (in script) is cast in the lower right section of the block near the starter. These were installed from chassis serial number E-1001 to E This engine was coupled to the short transmission with a mechanical clutch, see transmission for details. EN 98 - ID Tag EN 38 - Engine ID Tag Rivet 1200 cc, B Series - All serial numbers begin with the prefix 2G starting with engine number 2G is cast in the lower left section of the block near the fuel pump. These were installed from chassis serial number E to E This engine was coupled to the long transmission with a hydraulic clutch, see transmission section for details. ENGINE DATE CODE - Cylinder block cast dates are on the right side of the block near the front directly above where the oil pan attaches. They have three digits: the first digit is the day, the second digit is the month, and the last digit is the year. February 27, 1957 May 21, 1954 CHASSIS SERIAL NUMBER/BODY ID TAGS The Chassis Serial Number is in two locations. One is attached to the engine side firewall with two sheet metal screws. The other is stamped from the factory in the right upper shock tower in the engine compartment, on the dash-to-wheelhouse panel brace. This location is near the hold down tab for the distributer wiring harness. This is the offical serial number of the car as the tags can be easily switched. Note: Early 54 s did not have this. The Body ID Tag is pop riveted to the firewall right above the chassis serial number tag. IDENTIFICATION TIPS TRANSMISSION IDENTIFICATION - There were two basic transmissions used in the Metropolitan. For simple identication purposes they are indentifed as the long and short tranmissions. There were some differences in the long transmissions such as starter location/backing plate and the rear seal, etc. The short transmission is 21 inches in length and was only used on the 1200 cc A engine from chassis serial number E-1001 to E It was fitted with a mechanical clutch. The long transmission is 32 in length and was used on the balance of the serial numbers. It was fitted with a hydraulic clutch. Long - 32 Short - 21 ENGINE BACKING PLATE IDENTIFICATION There were two different backing plates used on the 1200 B cc and 1500 cc engines, commonly referred to as the thin and thick plates. The thin plate used locktabs & is 3/16 thick, and the thick plate used lock washers & is 3/8 thick. Note the difference in the starter location - thin backing plate is lower, thick backing plate is higher. These were only used with the long transmision. Note: The engine with the thin backing plate used the early slave cylinder and the engine with the thick backing plate used the late slave cylinder. EN 98 - ID Tag EN 38 - Engine ID Tag Rivet 1500 cc Low Compression - All serial numbers begin with the prefix IH starting with engine number IH is cast in the lower left section of the block near the fuel pump. This engine was coupled to the long transmission with a hydraulic clutch, see transmission section. Most in stock new parts ground orders placed before 12:00 PM EST will be shipped the same day. Any order outside the lower 48 states must ship complete, if they are partial orders, S/H will be charged for each package (no back orders). We will ship small items (less than 16ozs) in a small padded pouch via USPS 1st class. If you do not want us to ship through USPS please let us know when ordering. All air shipment S/H will be calculated once the package is boxed up and weighed. Any freight over 150 lbs will have to go FedEx Freight; all S/H costs would be calculated once the package is crated & weighed. We ship most international orders USPS Priority International.
