11 Disassembly Process FAB DISASSEMBLY & REASSEMBLY Reference exploded views and parts list on pages - Avoid contact with any oil that may escape from the FAB PTO during the disassembly process because it may be HOT.. Remove the input gear (), tapered roller bearings (0) and bearing spacer () by removing the set screw () in the mounting pad and driving the input shaft () from the housing ().. Next, remove the intermediate gear (5), bearings () and cone spacer () by removing the hex nut (5) and driving the intermediate shaft () from the PTO housing ().. Remove the three hex head capscrews () using a 9 " wrench. Remove the bearing cover (0) from the PTO housing (). See Figure.. Remove the flange/seal assembly (0) by removing the four socket head capscrews (hex head capscrews for a B output) () from the flange (0) using a 5 " Allen wrench ( 9 " wrench for B option). Next, position the housing () against a bench block and hit the end of the output shaft (9) with a soft face to remove the entire output shaft assembly from the PTO housing (). See Figure.. Using a bearing puller, remove the front bearing (8) from the output shaft (9) and then remove the rear bearing (8) front the output shaft (9).. Staying at the rear of the output shaft, remove the snap ring () using snap ring pliers while gently pushing on the piston cup (). 8. Pull the piston cup () from the output shaft (9) and the piston (5) will go with it. See Figure. PTO housing () and place lubricated O-Ring () into the groove in the housing located on the output cover (0) side of the PTO housing (). Remove the friction discs (), wave springs () and spacer discs (8) by pointing the shaft end downward. See Figure 5.. Shift to the front of the output shaft (9) and remove the snap ring (5) suing snap ring pliers. Proceed to remove the washers (), bearing (), output gear (), needle bearing () and washer (0). 12 FAB DISASSEMBLY & REASSEMBLY (CONT.) Reassembly Process. The reassembly is made in reverse of the disassembly. The re-use of seals, O-Rings and snap rings are not recommended. See page for gasket and rebuild kits.. Be sure to lubricate all O-Rings and bearings upon installation. Torque all capscrews to the appropriate values: Step # Three hex head capscrews for the bearing cover 8 ft.lb. Step # Four socket head capscrews for the output flange 8 ft.lb. Important: The intermediate gear is replaced as a sub-assembly to ensure proper shimming of the bearings. This sub-assembly includes the intermediate gear (5), two bearings () and a cone spacer ().. Place lubricated O-Ring (8) into the groove in the housing located on the bearing cover (0) side of the PTO housing () and place lubricated O-Ring () into the groove in the housing located on the output cover (0) side of the PTO housing (). 5. Slide this sub assembly into the PTO housing () to line up the intermediate shaft (). See Figure.. Tap the intermediate shaft () into the PTO housing () and secure using the hex nut (5) and torque to 8-5 ft.lb. The intermediate shaft () has a groove cut-out and needs to be positioned towards the aperture opening to allow clearance from the input gear. See Figure 8. Place lubricated O-Ring s () into each of the grooves located on each side of the PTO housing (). 9. Place the input gear () and tapered roller bearings (0) into the PTO housing and begin to tap in the input shaft () at the set screw side of the PTO housing () so the input shaft () will line up with the set screw once in place. See Figure Rotate the input gear times to fully seat the tapered bearings. Continue to drive the input shaft () through the PTO housing until it is flush with the bearing in this assembly.. Insert the thickest bearing spacer () that can be installed by hand in the gap between the bearing and the housing. Remove the bearing spacer () and select the next thickest spacer and drive into the gap. Rotate the input gear () to make sure it properly rotates; the recommended bearing pre-load is.00" -.00" loose. See Figure 0.. When proper pre-load has been established, continue to install the input shaft () and then secure using the set screw (). Torque the set screw to 5 ft.lb.
