When mounted to a motor or machine, its output is directly proportional to shaft position (pulse count) or speed (pulse rate). The HS5M operates down to zero speed and can be used for both control and instrumentation applications. The HS5M offers optional vtron flexible anti-rotation tethers/ brackets which will permit the encoder to tolerate ±0. of shaft end float/axial movement. or larger movement, select tether option G from the table below. The hollow shaft HS5M design eliminates the potential for coupling failures from misalignment, however, excessive housing movement (wobble) may cause undesirable vibrations and bearing damage. The higher the RPM, the more severe the vibration will be from housing movement. 3 9) Tighten screws on clamping collar evenly until snug, then tighten each screw to 5-50 in-lb [4- Nm]. O NOT US STNR RIGHT NGL WRNH. Use only a T-handle hex wrench or torque wrench with hex bit. Note: Units shipped with a metric bore size require a 4mm T-handle hex wrench; units with US size bores, a /" T-handle hex wrench. 0) or all motor mount options other than 8.5" -face: Snap the plastic washer pair together in the mounting slot of the anti-rotation arm. (See assembly diagram on page 4 for full details) ) Secure free end of the anti-rotation bracket to frame using bolt or T-bolt provided. The bracket should be parallel to the encoder face, 90 degrees to the shaft to avoid encoder bearing damage. If excessive housing movement is detected in the installation: ) isconnect power from equipment and encoder cable. ) heck the shaft the HS5M is mounted on for excessive shaft runout using a dial gauge. NM MG calls for 0.00" TIR or less. ) Verify that the mounting shaft meets minimum and maximum diameter tolerances. 4) Maximize the shaft insertion into the encoder (retaining the minimum of /8" between mounting face and encoder) 5) Loosen the clamping collar and rotate the motor shaft 80 within the encoder hollow shaft sleeve. Retighten the clamping collar. ) Loosen the clamping collar; move the split in the clamping collar over a solid portion of the encoder shaft, retighten the clamping collar. If excessive housing movement still exists after the above steps, the shaft or the encoder may be damaged and should be checked by the manufacturer. WIRING INSTRUTIONS UTION e sure to remove power before wiring the encoder. e sure to ground the cable shield: It can be connected to case ground at the encoder, or grounded at the receiving device, but should not be grounded on both ends. The HS5M encoder can be wired for single phase or two-phase operation, either with or without complements, with or without markers. See connector options and wiring diagrams. UTION When wiring for differential applications (,,,,Z,Z), and should be wired using one twisted, shielded pair; and should be in a second pair, etc. ailure to use complementary pairs (say, using and in a twisted pair) will reduce noise immunity significantly. or encoder output that correctly reflects the direction of rotation, proper phasing of the two output channels is important. General electrical requirements are: stranded copper, thru gauge (onnector Option P can use 4 WG), each wire pair individually shielded with braid or foil with drain wire, 0.05 u maximum total mutual or direct capacitance with outer sheath insulator. NOT When using the industrial connector ( P, V, or Z options), the minimum wire size is 0 gage, and 0 gage (only) wire ends must be tinned with solder before connection at the screw terminals. *Maximum cable length (and line driver selection) is limited by several factors: line driver protection, maximum RPM, PPR, output voltage and cable capacitance.
