1 I have owned my 1974 GTV for almost 30 years. I am the second owner. The car that has never left the Davis/Sacramento area since it was first purchased. I have been reading the AlafaBBS, so many useful tips. I am very grateful for all who share their personal experience and knowledge like this thread & I hope this is helpful for others. I used the tip for adding aluminum tape to enhance reflection on the instrument cluster as shown below: Aluminum Reflector Addition The factory light bulbs are useless and pretty scary at night especially when the instrument panel lights go out intermittently due to column switch. I used 2 Aluminum duct tape (above). It gave me a good boost in reflection light but not to my liking. I rebuilt the column switch based a very nice thread with pictures here: 1

2 Finding bright miniature LED bulb that is bright is a real chore. Also found out the color illumination is best when LED color is matched with indicator color. Next, I traced the wiring harness, connection pins and bench tested polarity of all light signals for brightness on an old GTV instrument cluster. Note the polarity on the red wiring harness connector. I made a harness to light up all signals simultaneously as shown here. Many thanks to papajam for all of his invaluable articles and wiring diagrams which has helped me a great deal over the years. LED Indicator Signals Main Gauges with original bulbs and Aluminum reflector Speedometer, tachometer and parking lights are shown with the original factory light bulbs and Aluminum reflector. 3 The interior, glove box, engine bay and trunk light with bright 9 LED daylight 39mm Festoon and love the massive improvement. Update: I used these Amber LED bulbs and like it much better, it is much brighter in daylight and at night: JDM ASTAR Extremely Bright 3014 Chipsets W5W T10 LED Bulbs, Amber Yellow 3

4 To finish the rear light cluster reflector, cleaned the reflectors with soap and water, primed using plastic primer and paint. I applied a couple coats of glossy Polyurethane for protection and enhanced reflection. I also added a pair of parking/stop lights in the empty positions as shown below. Backup, Parking, Brake and Turn-signal/hazard light reflectors. Completed Reflector note the second Parking/Brake LED light Bulb 4

5 Side Markers and Parking lights photo taken at dusk Completed project with parking lights on photo taken at dusk The last LED conversion was the digital flasher unit, the light bulbs on center dash and the heater lever since the original plastic marker was replaced with a 5

6 chrome-plated lever/guide. I used a plastic drip irrigation elbow and pipe to modify the original factory light bulb holder. I have to admit it looks better than the factory light at night. The bevel shaped plastic hood blocks the LED light from driver field of vision at night while casting a very nice glow over the heater control. Alternator and Voltage Regulator Replacing the factory alternator with a refurbished alternator with an internal voltage regulator is a must to maintain a higher idle voltage. I replaced mine with an Ultima a Amps Alternator with an internal voltage regulator from O Riely (Kragen) and an Optima AGM battery from Batteries Plus Bulbs and removed the mechanical voltage regulator. Now the idle voltage is at least 13-Volts compare to 11.5 V before. 6

7 Future Conversion Plan Replace all four headlights with European lights and LED bulbs.
