7 Description of implement The tested machine is a selfpropelled field crop sprayer for use on ground crops. Liquid is sprayed from small-sized nozzles. Drops are conveyed by a flow of air generated by an axial fan. The machine frame is made out of painted steel, the main and auxiliary tanks are made out of polyethylene. The main tank, having a nominal storage capacity of 1,500 l, is fitted with a content indicator located on the front left of the tank, the liquid level is visible from an external transparent tube connected to a float placed inside the tank. The tank may be filled directly from an auxiliary pump using a pipe fitted to a hydraulicallycontrolled winder. To access the tank s filling hole, there is a small ladder on the left hand side. On the left are the auxiliary tank for the operator and an introduction bowl for products, inside which is a device for cleaning empty packs. The tank for cleaning the dispensing circuit and inner walls of the tank is located inside the cab. The piston-diaphragm pump is powered by a hydraulic motor. The hydraulic circuit dispenses spray mixture in proportion to the vehicle s forward speed and is electronically controlled. The machine has a sensor to determine forward speed and a flow meter to determine the boom flow rate. Using the data supplied by these sensors and by the operator via the control panel in the cab, the electronic system can control the motorised valve that adjusts working pressure to keep the application volume constant regardless of the forward speed and/or the number of active boom sections. The pressure gauge to monitor working pressure, 63 mm in diameter, is ed behind the cab, clearly visible to the operator. The 0 8 bar part of the gauge covers an arc of 225 and is in 0.2 bar intervals. The remainder of the gauge (8 25 bar) covers an arc of 90 and is in 1.0 bar intervals. The sprayer can be equipped with dispensing booms having a working width of between 16 and 21 m. An oil-pressure system is used for open-close movements and height and inclination adjustment. These movements are performed via electric impulses from a control panel in the cab. An acoustic alarm sounds during every movement of the boom. During the transportation phase the boom is folded at the sides of the tank. The boom is attached to the support frame via an articulated parallel link fitted with hydraulic suspension. The support frame makes it possible to incline the boom backwards in relation to the vertical by up to 24. The filtering system consists of a filter fitted to the pump suction unit (that can be inspected even when the tank is full), a filter fitted to the adjustment unit outlet and filters located on the nozzle delivery pipes. 8 present at the opening and for piping used to fill the tank. The air-assisted kit (optional) consists of an axial fan mounted to the rear of the boom, sending air to a conveyer, which then distributes air along the whole boom. The fan is powered via an oil-pressure circuit. The speed of rotation of the fan is adjusted and controlled via electrical controls on a control panel located in the cab. The G-VAR kit (optional for some models) makes it possible to independently adjust the inclination of the dispensing boom on each side. The movement is ±7 vis-à-vis the horizontal axis. The machine is endowed with an airconditioned cab, access to which is via a ladder on the front left side. The forward speed and direction are controlled via a lever located on the right side of the driver s seat; this lever also contains the main controls for operating the boom. Results Main tank The maximum capacity is 1,627 l (+8.5% vis-à-vis nominal value). The lid is screwed on to the tank and has a diameter of 385 mm. The emptying system, on the right hand side, collects liquid without contaminating the operator. The filling device prevents the possibility of a reflux of water from the tank to the outside. Gauge The gauge is visible from the driver s seat during emptying operations, and is in intervals of 100 l. The maximum deviation between the gauge value and the actual amount of liquid is 4.4% up to 300 l (20% of nominal capacity) and 2.0% for the remaining part of the indicator. Dilutable residue The amount of water present in piping, with a possibility of returning to the tank, is 18.3 l. The total dilutable amount is thus 22.5 l. Agitation of liquid The implement s agitation system proved to be capable of attaining the maximum product concentration inside the tank as provided for by existing legislation. After 10 minutes of agitation a concentration of 88.1% was recorded; during emptying operations measurements were between 87.5% and 105.8% (Fig. 1). 8/12

[ Flow rate adjustment Working pressure was constant, with a constant pump rotation speed, regardless of the amount of liquid in the tank. Following changes to operating conditions (no. of active boom sections, forward speed, etc.) the system quickly adjusted the machine flow rate to the new operating conditions. Pressure drop The maximum difference between pressures measured at the beginning and at the end of the boom sections is 4.5%. Antidrip device The machine s membrane antidrip devices appeared to work in a regular and correct manner. 9/12

10 Nozzle flow rate The mean flow rate of the machine s nozzles is 1.61 l/min for the Teejet XR11004 nozzles, 2.30 l/min for the Teejet XR11006 nozzles at a pressure of 3.0 bar and 1.05 l/min using the Lechler AI11002 nozzles at a pressure of 5.0 bar (Tab. 2). Fan The speed of rotation of the hydraulically operated fan can reach up to 3,600 rpm with 2,200 rpm engine speed. Recommended conditions of use It may be stated, in light of the results of tests and machine performance, that the field crop sprayer to which the present certificate refers ensures a good uniformity of distribution either transversally or longitudinally in relation to the direction in which the vehicle is travelling. To adapt to different user needs (preor post-critical weeding, fungicide treatment, etc.) nozzles having different flow rates may be fitted to the machine. On the basis of results obtained during certification testing, with special reference to distribution diagrams, a working height in excess of 400 mm is recommended. To ensure that the machine comes up to the performances measured it should operate with nozzles having a spray angle of 110. Testing of safety requirements The machine is endowed with CE marking, an identification plate, safety pictograms, a user and maintenance handbook and an EC manufacturer s declaration of conformity. The EC manufacturer s declaration of conformity certifies that the machine conforms to the following harmonised standards and technical specifications: UNI EN 907:1998, UNI EN 1553:2001, ISO 11684:1995. Checks carried out with reference to documentation sent by the manufacturer did not show up inconsistencies with the contents of the aforementioned standards. The relative documentation has been filed.
