Liquid is sprayed under pressure, while drops are conveyed via an airflow generated by an axial flow fan. The distribution system consists of the axial flow fan with the nozzles radiating out from inside the air outlet section. The speed of rotation of the fan may be modified via a 2-speed gear (+ disengagement). The sprayer is attached to the tractor via the towing hook with a fixed or adjustable -approved drawbar for road circulation. The drawbar can be operated manually or hydraulically when changing from transport to work mode and vice versa. The machine frame is made out of galvanised steel, the main and auxiliary tanks are made out of polyethylene. The main tank is equipped with two contents indicators, one on the front right and the other on the left side. The liquid level is indicated by a transparent external tube. On top of the machine there is the auxiliary tank for cleaning the dispensing circuit, while the auxiliary tank for the operator is on the side. The piston-diaphragm pump is located at the front of the machine and is operated by the PTO unit via the cardan shaft. The hydraulic circuit is of the constant pressure. The machine 5/12

6 has electrical controls for dispensing and manual controls for checking pressure. The machine s pressure gauge has a diameter of 100 mm and is in intervals of 1.0 bar. The nozzle holder units are arranged within the air outlet section. Each nozzle can be closed singly. The filtering system consists of a filter fitted to the pump suction unit (that can be inspected even when the tank is full) and one filter located on the nozzle delivery pipes; there are also strainer filters in the filling hole. Results Main tank The maximum measured capacity is as follows: model nominal capacity (l) max. capacity (l) Poly % Poly % The lids are screwed on to the tank and have a diameter of 385 and 300 mm. The emptying system, on the right hand side, collects liquid without contaminating the operator. Tank content indicator The content indicator is visible from the driver s seat during filling and emptying operations, and is in intervals of 50 l. The maximum deviation between the value given and the measured amount is: model up to 20% of nominal capacity over 20% of nominal capacity front indicator Poly % -3.5% Poly % 3.6% side indicator Poly % -4.2% Poly % 4.3% Residue in tank The amount of residual water in the tank in a horizontal and 15% inclined is given in the table below (expressed in l). Poly 800 Poly 1000 horizontal forward backward right left Dilutable residue The amount of water present in piping, with a possibility of returning to the tank, is 6.1 l. The total dilutable 6/12

7 amount is thus 8.2 l (Poly 800) and 8.3 l (Poly 1000). Agitation of liquid The machine s agitation system proved to be capable of attaining the maximum product concentration inside the tank as provided for by existing legislation. After 10 minutes of agitation a 98.8% concentration was measured. Values recorded during emptying operations ranged from 89.2% to 98.9% (Fig. 1). Flow rate adjustment As the control unit is endowed with adjustable proportional backflow, there were no pressure variations following the closure of a dispensing section. 8 Pressure drop Differences between pressure measured at the beginning and at the end of the boom sections proved to be 0.1 bar regardless of working pressure. fan speed ATR Marrone nozzle AVI nozzle ,836 rpm ,160 rpm Antidrip device The machine s membrane antidrip devices worked correctly. Nozzle flow rate The average flow rate of the machine s nozzles is 0.75 l/min for the Albuz ATR Marrone nozzles and 1.06 l/min for the Albuz AVI nozzles with a pressure of 10.0 bar. The difference in flow rate between the right and left side was below 1%. Regularity of vertical distribution The uniformity of vertical dispensing was measured on both sides and working with an operating pressure of 10 bar. The test bench was ed at a distance of 1.25 m from the centre of the machine. Fan Air flow rate The maximum air flow rate for the fan, working at a PTO speed of 540 rpm, was 33,800 m 3 /h with the slower gear and 36,720 m 3 /h with the higher one (Fig. 4). 8/12

Air speed Air speed in the proximity of the target was measured under the same conditions described for the vertical distribution diagram. The average speed is 13.5 m/s, with a fan speed of 1,836 rpm, and 14.9 m/s with the fan at 2,160 rpm (Fig. 5). Symmetry indices are 8.3 and 9.1 respectively. Notes on functionality The tested machine performed within the limits established by existing legislation (Tab. 1). 9/12

11 Recommended conditions of use The machines to which the present test report refers may be used to spray orchards and similar areas characterised by intense growth. The high air flow rate of the fan makes it possible for delivered liquid to penetrate deeply inside thickly leafed plants. The fan rotation speed must be adjusted (using the machine s gear box and/or by varying the PTO speed of rotation), depending on the intensity of vegetation present. Testing of safety requirements The machine is endowed with CE marking, an identification plate, safety pictograms, a user and maintenance handbook and an EC manufacturer s declaration of conformity. The EC manufacturer s declaration of conformity certifies that the machine conforms to the following harmonised standards and technical specifications: UNI EN 907:1998; UNI EN 1553:2001; ISO 11684:1995. Checks carried out with reference to documentation sent by the manufacturer did not show up inconsistencies with the provisions of the aforementioned standards. The relative documentation has been filed. 11/12
