G. P. Reeves will be happy to assist you. The list below contains 16 questions. Your answers will be used to select the best components for your application. We will do everything possible to help you obtain an accurate, dependable, and cost effective grease dispensing system. We are the engineers and manufacturers. We can engineer custom components as necessary to meet unique requirements. Few customers can answer all questions, but please answer as many as possible. 1. What type of grease do you wish to dispense? Lubricating, Sealing, Anti-seize, Silicone, etc. 2. In what type of container will the grease be purchased? Tote? 400 lb. drum? 120 lb. keg? 35 lb. pail? other? 3. What is the apparent viscosity of the grease? The NLGI rating is preferred. 4.. Does the grease change viscosity with temperature? Most grease does. 5.. Is the grease unstable? Do the solids separate from the liquids easily and quickly? Does it contain suspended solids that might settle out over time? 6.. Do you wish to apply the grease in shots or beads? Shots are round and glob like and are applied to stationary parts by stationary nozzles. Beads are long and narrow and are applied either with moving nozzles or moving parts. 7. What repeatability do you require? What is the tolerance of your shot or bead size expressed as a percentage of the volume dispensed? 8. Is the grease tacky or stringy? 9. What volume (size of shot or bead) do you wish to dispense? Provide in engineering terms such as cubic centimeter, milliliter, cubic inch, etc. Practical terms such as BB, M&M, M&M peanut, pea, golf ball, pencil eraser, can also be used. 10. How should the volume be controlled? (Either by mechanical adjustment or by PLC) 11. How serious would it be if parts exit your facility without the specified amount of grease? 12. How frequently do you wish to dispense in terms of cycle per minute? 13. How much time is available for dispensing? How large is the dispense window? 14. If grease is applied with moving nozzle or to a moving part, how is motion controlled? 15. How will the part be presented to the dispense station? By hand? Automatically? By robot? 16. How will the part be handled after grease has been applied? Removed by hand? Automatically? By Robot? A general description of your application requirements will be helpful. CAUTION: Unless pre-packed with grease, NPT pipe fittings can trap huge amounts of air that will compress during dispense and expand between dispenses causing nozzles to ooze grease. GSS-009 GSS threaded spray nozzle is constructed of brass and has M18 x 1 threads, a grease inlet on one end, and a coaxial spray nozzle on the other end. A separate inlet on the side adjacent to the inlet is for the spray air. The nozzle includes two M18 x 1 nuts and can use many of the different brackets available for proximity sensors. This nozzle is designed to be installed adjacent to, but remote from a GSS dispenser. Grease tubing between dispenser and nozzle should be less than 12" long and PE or PU tubing should not be used because this grease delivery tubing should be as nonballooning as possible. This tag is sometimes mistakenly identified as a leaking grease dispenser. When the GSS dispensers can not be installed directly on the dispense points, adaptors and tubing will be necessary to convey the grease from the dispensers to the dispense points. That tubing should be as short as possible and its inside diameter should be between and to minimize the amount of grease that will be compressed during each dispense. The orifice at the dispense point should also not be smaller than diameter to minimize the backpressure during the dispense. The tubing should be as rigid as possible because tubing that balloons (expands) during dispense will return to size during the machine dwell time and also cause a tag at the dispense point orifice. Polyethylene (PE) and polyurethane (PU) tubing balloons too easily and should not be used. When the tubing must flex, heavy wall nylon can be used, but the GSS-022 stainless steel braided tubing offered below is more heavy duty, has a more industrial appearance, is extremely resistance to abrasion, and can be cut to length and assembled at installation.
