1 TOYOFAN SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS 1- Electrical skills (understand this manual before starting, don't hesitate to send questions), a compatible car with electric radiator fan(s) 2 - An and higher android device with BLUETOOTH capabilities. GPS capabilities are optional but suggested. ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION First find the DIAGNOSIS box on your car, (in the engine bay),then connect the matching TOYOFAN connector into it like in the left picture. At this point you can start the wiring harness modification job knowing where the device will be sitting. Cars with an existing electric fan uses 'With stock electric fans already there'. Cars being converted to use an electric fan uses 'Converting from thermostatic to electric fans' Wiring diagrams are found at the last pages of this document. Blue ( l ) = radiator fan relay coil, negative side of coil (-), the wire must be cut and the blue soldered in its place. grey ( gr ) = chassis ground. red ( r ) = oil pressure switch or hand brake switch, this wire must be spliced as to make a T junction. black ( b )= chassis ground. Yellow ( y )= fan motor positive side (+), this wire must be spliced as to make a T junction. ADDITIONAL WIRING STEPS FOR UNIVERSAL MODE When used in universal mode the TOYOFAN requires a coolant temp sensor reading to be routed either into AB or TT of the DIAGNOSIS box. on early Toyotas those spaces will be empty, on later cars they might not be empty, UNIVERSAL MODE is suggested for early cars without the obd1 data stream but can work on later cars if no conflicts are present. AB should be chosen when reading an EFI coolant temp sensor (THW wire on most TOYOTAs) TT should be chosen when reading a dashboard temp sensor, when no coolant temp sensor is present(can be the only option on carburetor engines) MAKE THE TOYOFAN AND ANDROID DEVICE COMMUNICATE TOGETHER 1- Turn your ignition key to the ON position. Bluetooth activity led will start blinking in the TOYOFAN device. 2- A blue or red led will blink the TOYOFAN, this means the device is ready for Bluetooth connection 3-In TOYOBD1 press in the upper tool bar. 4- TOYOBD1 will search for known ZF devices (OBD1READ, TOYOCOM, TOYOFAN) and will start the pairing procedure,(don't INPUT A PIN, THIS IS DONE INTERNALLY AND WILL GO AWAY BY ITSELF) 5- the will become when TOYOBD1 will have found a TOYOFAN and tries to connect to it. 6- When the device is Bluetooth connected, the icon will be.you are now connected to your TOYOFAN device. in case TOYOBD1 does not recognize your TOYOFAN, you will have to try directly in the Android OS settings, steps are described at the end of the last page of this manual.

2 SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION OF THE TOYOFAN The TOYOFAN can be operated in universal or OBD1 mode, the universal mode is there for cars without the OBD1 data stream. by default the TOYOFAN comes configured for an engine with OBD1 data stream, non inverted coolant sensor curve. Fans engage at 96C(204F), fans disengage at 88C(190F) and overheat alarm engages past 100C(212F). 0- TOYOFAN must be powered when configuring it's values, if not already Bluetooth connected, TOYOBD1 will Bluetooth connected to it. 1- In TOYOBD1 With the TOYOFAN Bluetooth connected, press the button in the top toolbar. this will bring the main menu. 2- Go into the 'Configuration/engine specs' dialog,choose your engine if it is present in the list. If not then input the proper values for your engine. 3- Go into the 'Configuration/display' dialog, you will require to check at the least AB,TT,ECT fields, adding more is suggested for OBD1 mode O1- The yellow led inside TOYOFAN should be lit if the obd1 data stream is coming in fine. if not execute this additional step O1a - Go into the main menu, then into the 'Device features' dialog, press the 'UNIVERSAL MODE' button so it becomes 'OBD1 MODE' O1b- if the button is in 'OBD1 MODE' and the TOYOFAN yellow led is not lit, something is wrong with the car and requires wiring troubleshooting.(make sure you are on the engine compatibility list for the OBD1 data stream) O2- determine if the coolant sensor reading is inverted.( looking at values in the ECT display cell, are they right or wrong? )if this is inverted follow the next steps. O2a - Go into the main menu, then into the 'Configuration/Engine Specs' dialog O2b - check 'invert coolant sensor curve' O2a - Go into the main menu, then into the 'Device features' dialog O2b - Press the 'Apply settings on device' button for Universal mode U1- If you use the AB input for coolant sensor ( choose this if you use the EFI coolant temp sensor (2 wire sensor) ) U1a - on the AB cell, press the right corner button to bring the sensor curve selection dialog, in the drop down menu choose 'toyota EFI thermistor' press 'apply sensor curve'. U1b - Go into the main menu, then into the 'Device features' dialog, U1c - press the 'OBD1 MODE' button so it changes to 'UNIVERSAL MODE' U1d in the 'ECT Channel' drop-down menu select 'AB', press the Apply settings on device. U2-If you use the TT input for coolant sensor (choose this if you require to use the dashboard coolant temp sensor (1 wire sensor) ) U2a - on the TT cell, press the right corner button to bring the sensor curve selection dialog, in the drop down menu choose 'ND water thermistor' press 'apply sensor curve'. U2b - Go into the main menu, then into the 'Device features' dialog, U2c - press the 'OBD1 MODE' button so it becomes 'UNIVERSAL MODE' U2d- check 'use TT for coolant sensor', U2e- in the 'ECT Channel' drop-down menu select 'TT', press 'Apply settings on device' Scroll down the 'Device Features' dialog, adjust the temperature thresholds to suit your needs. 5- press 'Apply settings on device'. due to a resolution loss, exact values will be rounded to nearest possible values when applying settings.

3 TEST YOUR WIRING JOB BEFORE HITTING THE ROAD using the 'Device features' dialog test buttons, you can ensure your wiring job is operational. If this fails, review the wiring diagram or contact me directly. 0-test the overheating warning by pressing the 'WARNING OVERRIDE' button. the warning bulb will be flashing annoyingly fast, when completed just press it back to OFF. 1-test the fan operation by pressing the 'FAN OVERRIDE' button. fans should be turning, when completed just press it back to OFF. PAIRING MANUALLY TO THE TOYOFAN IN ANDROID SETTINGS troubleshooting 1- In your Android cell phone go in the Bluetooth configuration then search for Bluetooth devices. troubleshooting 2- A Bluetooth device called TOYOFAN should be present in the search results. troubleshooting 3- Now pair the device with your cell phone. the password will be troubleshooting 4- Now TOYOFAN is linked to your cell phone and can be used with TOYOBD For support or more information please visit or on Facebook "TOYOBD1 User" group. contact me at jfrancoisbreton@hotmail.com

4 Converting from thermostatic to electric fans This one involves adding a fuse and 2 relays, a main relay and a fan relay. The main relay operates in a regular logic( non inverted) while the fan relay operates in an inverted logic. Optionally you can hijack the low oil pressure warning bulb to also warn you of an overheating condition. This is highly suggested, in case you don't have this warning bulb the low brake fluid warning bulb would do the same.

5 With stock electric fans already there For use on cars with existing electric radiator fans. This is highly suggested, in case you don't have this warning bulb the low brake fluid warning bulb would do the same. Disconnect the thermo switch connector or cut the wire leading to it.
