14 Heavy Duty Truck Systems The Heavy Duty Truck Systems course is the founda on of the Service Training Academy vehicle training curriculum. In this course, students will learn to access and use the DTNA and vendor service literature which underpins all troubleshoo ng and repair efforts. Addi onally, students will learn the opera on, troubleshoo ng, and repair of many main mechanical systems on heavy duty vehicles. Systems covered are: main and cab air suspension systems and adjustment, clutch and linkage opera on and adjustment, power steering systems, and air brake/abs systems. (5 Days) Electrical Troubleshoo ng Technicians will review electrical fundamentals as they apply to DC circuits. They will build series, parallel and series parallel circuits as well as mul ple circuits with relays and mul ple controls for the purpose of understanding electrical circuit opera on and problem condi ons. They will learn how to diagnose common electrical issues across mul ple series of Daimler vehicles. (4 Days) Page 15

15 Electronic Systems Technicians will learn how state of the art electronic control systems on today s medium and heavy duty trucks work in general, to include how ECU s monitor a variety of sensors, determine appropriate ac on and control outputs. They will learn specifically how sensors work and how to confirm proper opera on (speed sensors, temp sensors, posi on sensors, pressure sensors, Hall effect sensors). (4 Days) HVAC & Parksmart Technicians will learn the components, opera on, control and diagnos cs of the hea ng system. They will learn fundamental laws of heat energy and heat transfer as related to A/C systems, they will use this knowledge to be er understand refrigerant system opera on, performance tes ng and gauge driven diagnos cs as well as related service procedures recovery, evacua on and charging. They will also learn the basic opera ng fundamentals and diagnos c procedures of the ParkSmart parked HVAC system found in many Cascadia vehicles. (5 days) Page 16

16 Cascadia This expert level course will provide the technician with an in depth understanding of the Cascadia s multiplexed electrical system. Technicians will learn the functions, operation and troubleshooting for all of the electronicallycontrolled systems to include lighting, instrumentation, HVAC, and the multiplexed electrical system. Technicians will use all available resources such as ServiceLink, ServicePro, PartsPro and EZWiring to isolate and repair problems in all vehicle systems. Technicians will use ServiceLink to monitor vehicle systems operation, change/add parameters and flash vehicle ECU s. (4 Days) M2 TThis expert level course will provide the technician with an in depth understanding of the Business Class M2 s Multiplexed electrical system. Technicians will learn the functions, operation and troubleshooting for all of the electronically-controlled systems to include lighting, instrumentation, HVAC, body builder interface, air management system, and the multiplexed electrical system. Technicians will use all available resources such as ServiceLink, ServicePro, PartsPro and EZWiring to isolate and repair problems in all vehicle systems. Technicians will use ServiceLink to monitor vehicle systems operation, change/add parameters and flash vehicle ECU s. (4 Days) Page 17

17 New Cascadia (P4) This expert-level course builds upon the concepts and skills learned in the CVL03 Cascadia course, and applies them to the New Cascadia vehicle. Students will be introduced to the model-specific service information resources, and gain hands-on experience troubleshooting New Cascadia systems. Students will learn and troubleshoot braking, air, power distribution, HVAC, and multiplexed control systems. Emphasis will be placed on the increased importance of DiagnosticLink to the troubleshooting process. (3 Days) Detroit DT12 Transmission This course will cover the component identification, basic mechanical transmission operation, using special transmission tools for key service procedures, using the special transmission service routines in DiagnosticLink, transmission diagnostics with an emphasis on log file analysis and basic parameter management. (Please note this is NOT an overhaul class) (2 Days) Page 18

18 Advanced Diagnos cs Noise, Vibra on, Harsh Ride (NVH) This expert level course will provide the technician an in depth understanding of Noise, Vibration, and Harshness. Technicians will learn about vehicle alignment with the main focus of hands on to understand, identify and resolve vibration issues. Some shop exercises will support the Express Assessment timeline to aid Technicians with quickly narrowing possibilities. Intended audience; Lead Technicians, Express Assessment Tech s, Technical Shop Foreman, and those being developed into these roles.(2 Days) Advance Diagnos cs Mechanical & Electrical This expert level course will provide the technician an in depth understanding of Root Cause diagnostics and Electronic Programming. Some shop exercises will support the Express Assessment time line to aid technicians with quickly narrowing possibilities. Intended audience; Lead Technicians, Express Assessment Tech s, Technical Shop Foreman, and those being developed into these roles.(2 Days) Page 19

19 Western Star This expert level course will provide the technician with an in depth understanding of the Western Star's electrical system. Technicians will learn the functions, operation and troubleshooting for all of the electronically-controlled systems to include lighting, instrumentation, HVAC, and the multiplexed electrical system. Technicians will use all available resources such as ServiceLink, ServicePro, PartsPro and EZWiring to isolate and repair problems in all vehicle systems. Technicians will use ServiceLink to monitor vehicle systems operation. (4 Days) Page 20

20 DD Heavy Duty Basic Diagnos cs In this course the student will be introduced to all the core competencies required for DD engine diagnostics. Key sections include how to gather important service information stored the on DTNA network like Power Service Literature, relating concepts of basic electricity to the DD engine sensor system, detailed usage of the DiagnosticLink electronic service tool, how to program engine controller using DiagnosticLink professional and an overview of using DDEC Reports. (3 Days) DD Heavy Duty Major Repair This course covers major repair with emphasis on the systems of the engine (air, coolant, lube, fuel). As the students disassemble and reassemble the engine they will learn how to properly use Power Service Literature for tasks including how to set the gear train and gear lash, set valve lash and engine brake lash. The course will cover component differences the student will see between the different releases of DD engines (EPA07, EPA10, GHG14 and GHG17) and basic failure analysis of key components. 21 DD Heavy Duty Fuel System Diagnos cs This course will provide an in depth look at how all the components of the fuel system from the fuel tank to the injector work together on a properly running engine. Based on that knowledge students will then learn how to use the latest electronic service routines and troubleshooting material to diagnose fault code or symptom based issues with the fuel system. The course will cover the evolution of the DD engine fuel system from its initial EPA07 release through the latest GHG17 release. (5 Days) DD Heavy Duty Air & ATS Diagnos cs This course is focused on the components, operation and diagnostics of the DD engine s air and aftertreatment system. On the air system side the course will look at the evolution of the turbocharger and EGR system components over the different DD engine releases. Students will learn the proper operation and diagnostics of air system components (both electronic and symptom based issues). The ATS system will include a detailed study of the DOC and DPF filters, their related sensors and the all aspects of the regeneration process. The SCR system will be covered by examining the major components of both the air-assisted system (EPA10) and the liquid only system (GHG14 and GHG17). Students will study ATS diagnostic procedures both fault code and symptom based issues with a combination of log file analysis and hands-on exercises. (4 Days) Page 22

22 DD Medium Duty Diagnostic/Major Repair This ILT course takes a closer look at the internal engine components and how the components interact with one another. It will also include DD Medium Duty Diagnostics information. (5 Days) Fleet Training Class The Fleet Training Class was developed to give fleets in your area some basic Freightliner and Detroit knowledge. Class will highlight selec ve areas of the Chassis and Engine Systems used on Freightliner Vehicles. The fleet course is based on 2 areas. Day 1 is all related to Freightliner. We will go through all areas of DTNAconnect.com (Accessfreightliner.com) showing where all the service informa on is and how it is all laid out. We spend me going through wiring diagrams, with focus on where to access them and how to read them. We also do a small overview of Cascadia and/or M2 electronics layout, followed by a good in depth overview of how Diagnos c Link works and how to use it to help troubleshoot Cascadia and/or M2 problems. We finish the first day out with a couple of small live bugs on the vehicle if me permits. Day 2 and 3 are spent on Detroit. We go through DDCSN and talk about all the different service informa on available. We also go over some of the electronics on the engine. We go through Diagnos c Link in great detail for the engine side, working through many of the troubleshoo ng rou nes for the def system and explaining the def systems as we go through each rou ne. We also go through general opera on of the fuel system and how it works. We go through the tune up procedure with hands on training. Lastly I spend the rest of the day with Live bugs me permi ng. ***Depending on the group this format could be slightly modified. Page 23
