5 A wonderful Presentation Dinner, with great food and lots of merriment - some of those questions and answers were a bit telling- and brought back some hilarious moments! It was an honour to present the plaques and badges: Club Champion Graeme Cox Together with the Office Bearer Medallions to all the Committee Weren t we blessed to have such a jolly Santa visit us at our Xmas picnic with bags of presents for everyone, Santa was so happy receiving all those kisses from the ladies - and of course having Paul Barnett sit on his lap was a highlight. Such a large rollup of members made it a special day, and we were pleased to welcome Na to her first Club outing, looking forward to seeing you at many more. Our first driver training day was a huge success, with Sonya Franke, Laura Slieshman and Daniel Palmowski completing the program. All 3 have agreed to do the next training day in February, and we have another six young people registered to undertake the driver training program something all Club members can rightly be proud of. 20 Year Membership Stephen Bloomfield Clubman Ian Hissey 20 Year Membership Graeme Cox Clubwoman Mary Cox 10 Year Membership Allan Starret 10 Year Membership Chris Smith Mary has again organised some magnificent events this year listed in her report, starting with Australia Day display of our Jaguars at Foreshore. Then 3 day run to Gnoo Blas for 50th Anniversary Celebrations of 1st Australian Touring Car Championship won by David Mackay in his Mk1 Jaguar, Bill Pit Mk1 2nd, Ron Hodgson Mk1 3rd. What a victory for Jaguar, and of course not forgetting our own Max Patterson with his XK140 victories there. Something for us all to enjoy and bask in. Pack that picnic basket for Tea by the Sea after our visit to Fort Scratchley. Alan explained the report to members and moved for the acceptance of his report Seconded Sue Edgar Social Secretary: Ian asked members to give Mary a round of applause for all her hard work in preparation for the Presentation dinner. Mary reported on the month s events and the Presentation Dinner she said the numbers for the Dinner was close to or the highest numbers we have ever had. On 6 th December will be our Annual Christmas lunch beginning at 10 am at Grahamstown Dam. The club is planning to display our cars at the Newcastle Foreshore for Australia Day 2010 and will notify members by , as we need to know numbers. In February we are looking at having a Saturday afternoon at Fort Scratchley and tea afterwards. Also wanted to see if members are interested in attending Gnoo Blas Orange in February. Mary moved that her report be accepted Seconded Robyn Lynch. Regalia Officer: Graeme reported that he had received $150 in regalia sales and $14 from the raffle also he has two good jaguars for sale. Point Score Secretary: Graeme needs names of those who drove Jaguars to the dinner on Saturday night members were able to help him with the details. General Business: Ian reported on the first driver education day that was held last Saturday and Daniel Palmowski gave a report of his experience. Leyland commented that next year a few members were looking travelling over to the Goodwood Revival 17 th- 19 th September and wanted to know if anyone else was interested in going as well. Ian presented Richard Lynch with his medallion for Editor, as he was unable to attend the Presentation Dinner. Our next meeting in January will be one week earlier to the 19 th January as the last Tuesday of the month is Australia Day. The Hub January 2010 Page 6

7 FROM THE SECRETARY Problem Corner: Alistair Crombie reported that the clutch assembly on his air conditioning compressor on his X Type disappeared; apparently the Nylok nut became loose. Richard Lynch enquired if anyone could help advise him where he could purchase head studs for Series III, members helped him with some ideas. The Raffle prize of Christmas hamper was won by Robyn Lynch with ticket No. B87 The meeting closed at 8:28pm Robynne Lilly Honorary Secretary POSITION VACANT - REGALIA Graeme Cox has been keeping the Regalia seat warm since the AGM, but after many years of service in this role, has decided to give someone else a turn. 11 SOCIAL SECRETARY S REPORT On Saturday 14 th November we held our Annual Breakfast Run at Hunter Valley Gardens. Graeme and I arrived early and set up the tables and waited till the other members arrived before cooking sausages, bacon and eggs which was very delicious. We had 14 cars on display which consisted of different models. After breakfast some went to the Gardens and some lingered across to the shops for a wander before departing around Thanks for coming and making the morning another successful breakfast. Saturday 21 st November President Ian welcomed 39 Members and friends to the Annual Presentation Dinner at Club Macquarie. We started at 6.00pm for Canapés and Dinner at 7.00pm. After the main meal we had a trivia and everyone received a small present followed by 3 lucky door prizes. We then presented members with 20yr and 10yr badges. Graeme received the trophy for Club Championship, Ian received Club Man and I received Club Woman. Thanks to Robyn for the decorations to the tables On Sunday 6 th December we held our Annual Christmas lunch at Grahamstown Dam. Some of the members met around am for another great day. Santa and his elves arrived around 11.40am to give out gifts. Lunch was served afterwards and a natter and look over all the cars which was another great display. Graeme and I arrived in our new X300 XJ12 which we purchased from Brian Vitnell, Graeme tells me its my Xmas present, not bad eh? Steve and Robynne arrived in their new Daimler 250 V8 which was very nice and of course all the men were drooling as usual. The day was hot but there was a nice breeze to make it comfortable. We departed around 2.00pm-2.30pm. I hope all enjoyed a Merry Christmas and I wish everyone a Happy New Year We are celebrating Australia Day at the Foreshore. X-Type When did you get your first Jaguar? 2006 What is your daily drive? How did you first get interested in Jaguars? Any unfulfilled Jaguar wishes? Toyota 4 Runner I have loved all cars most of my life, and am only a latecomer to Jaguar ranks. I would like more in the garage, however matrimonial harmony is a consideration! (Editor s note: Graeme has been over heard showing a (un)healthy interest in car hoists and the logistics of raising a garage s existing roof!) What kind of driving do you do in your Jaguar(s)? Country trips, holidays in the X-Type. Club runs and events in the 240. How much of the work on your Jaguar(s) do you do yourself as opposed to outsourcing? Mostly it is outsourced becoming lazy in my old age. What cars or interests appeal to you, other than Jaguars? I also have a 1995 Toyota MR2 GT and a 650 Suzuki motorcycle which I love to ride. Best driving experience? Worst driving experience? The day I purchased my first car, a red Austin Healey 100/4, and drove it home. Spinning out of control in the wet, down the main straight at Catalina circuit, Katoomba, and coming to rest on the Armco. The Hub January 2010 Page 14

18 Wednesday 11th November On Wednesday 11 th November, a small group of cars met at Club Macquarie for a run to Lemon Tree Passage. The weather was perfect, and the group stopped off at Bar Beach for morning tea. The Editor had been waiting there rather than drive to the Club and back, but failed in his heroic bid to quarantine half a dozen adjoining carpark spaces, due to the warm weather and the inclination of bikini-clad girls to park there instead. (I tried, but they all had boyfriends bigger than me and I hate getting sand kicked in my face!! - Ed.) Some of the carpark users had very comfortable accommodation, even though they were not in Jags. We had the discretion to keep our back turned! After leaving Bar Beach it was a pleasant drive to Lemon Tree, slightly delayed by roadworks on Lemon Tree Passage Road. It wasn t the delay that concerned us, but the risk of getting spots from the freshly sprayed bitumen seal, on our bodywork. Once on site by the water at Lemon Tree, a very satisfying lunch of fish and chips was purchased from the marina shop and consumed at leisure in the shade of the roofed picnic structure. 19 We ve all seen the photographs in magazines of attractive young women draped across cars. It s even used in advertising of course, to help sell the car. We don t need a show of hands as to which HUB readers have fantasized about this scenario with their Jaguars, but it has come to light that one of our members recently had such a real life experience. Alistair McIlroy was approached by a freelance photographer and model who wanted to use his E-Type as a photographic prop. My spies tell me they didn t have to ask twice. 20 2009 Presentation Dinner 21st November 2009 On 21 st November about 40 members and friends gathered at Club Macquarie for the annual Presentation Dinner. There was plenty of socialising, a nice smorgasbord dinner, drinks from the bar, and some important formalities. The most important of these was the presentation of awards to those who had distinguished themselves during They were: Club Champion Clubwoman of the Year Clubman of the Year Graeme Cox Mary Cox Ian Hissey The Hub January 2010 Page 20

21 Graeme, Mary and Ian were presented with a superb crystal bowl as well as the perpetual trophy in each case. These were the inaugural separate awards for Clubwoman and Clubman of the Year, replacing the previous long-standing Clubperson award. A little equal opportunity in the JDCHR! President Ian also presented medallions to each of the committee members who have contributed to the successful operation of the Club for the year, and long term membership badges to Stephen Bloomfield and Graeme Cox (20 years), and Allan Starrett and Chris Smith (10 years). Robynne Lilly, Mary Cox and Pauline Wilson then presented a Motoring Trivia competition, which was enjoyed by all, especially as everyone won a prize amazing! Scrutineers were almost required when there was disputation over some of the answers, but the girls then announced the competition rules. Rule 1 was that Mary and Robynne are always right! Mind you, the outcome might have been quite different if all the Christmas whistles had worked when blown to signal an answer. An enjoyable evening with plenty of good humour and our thanks go to Mary, Robynne and Ian for their organisation of the event. Editor The Hub January 2010 Page 21

24 Sunday 6 th December 2009 dawned fine and hot, but a little breeze off the water of Grahamstown Dam kept thing reasonably comfortable for about 14 cars and their owners, families and friends who gathered for the 2009 Christmas Picnic. The scarce shade of trees was reserved for Jaguars, mere humans left to seek shelter under the picnic structure (too small for cars anyway), or umbrellas brought from home. Much inspection of cars took place, especially Graham and Mary Cox s new X300 V12, and Stephen and Robynne Lilly s new Daimler 250. The Hub January 2010 Page 24

25 Santa made a welcome appearance and with the help of Mary and Pauline, handed out presents. Amazingly, he had exactly the right number to go round. Graeme Gardiner may have missed out as he seemed to be absent during Santa s visit, although he did return shortly afterwards looking decidedly flushed! Everyone was impressed that Santa s sleigh had been upgraded to an E-Type similar to Paul Barnett s. A very enjoyable day out with lots of camaraderie and Christmas cheer. 34 On Thursday 17 th December, five cars enjoyed a pleasant drive around Lake Macquarie. Starting at the usual meeting place at Club Macquarie, three of the group proceeded south along the western edge of the lake for morning tea at the tip of a delightful peninsula between Yarrawonga Park and Balcolyn, called Shingle Splitters Point. Its name comes form the pioneering days of the early timber industry, which harvested the plentiful casuarinas growing in the area. Although the weather was oppressive elsewhere, our morning tea location was cooled by a strengthening nor-easter. We were able to watch catamarans from the nearby sailing club having some not-too serious racing, and other young people making the best of this idyllic spot with a swim. 35 SWANSEA MID-WEEK RUN (CONT D) En route from here to our designated lunch stop at Swansea, we were joined by Paul Barnett in his Series 3 E-Type, and Graeme Gardiner and Steve Lilly in Graeme s Mark II 240. Lunch at the Swansea RSL Bistro provided welcome sustenance, and the opportunity for more chat about Jags and more solving of the world s problems. By then the sea breeze had strengthened to a level sufficient to blow the head off the Editor s beer, and that was inside the Club! Naturally, we elected not to eat outdoors. 37 A woman brings eight-year-old Johnny home and tells his mother that he was caught playing doctors and nurses with Mary, her eight-year old daughter. Johnny's mother says, "Let's not be too harsh on them... they are bound to be curious about sex at that age." "Curious about Sex?" replies Mary's mother. "He's taken her appendix out!" I just read an article on the dangers of heavy drinking... Scared the life out of me. So that's it! After today, no more reading! Except for the HUB Editor A mechanic was removing the cylinder heads from the motor of a car when he spotted the famous heart surgeon in his shop, standing off to the side, waiting for the service manager to come to take a look at his car. The mechanic shouted across the garage, Hello Doctor! Please come over here for a minute. The surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked argumentatively, So doctor, look at this. I also open hearts, take valves out, grind em, put in new parts, and when I finish this will work like a new one. So how come you get the big money, when you and me are doing basically the same work? The doctor leaned over and whispered to the mechanic: Try to do it when engine is running A few days ago I was having some work done at my local garage. A blonde came in and asked for a seven-hundred-ten. We all looked at each other, and another customer asked, "What is a seven-hundred-ten?"she replied, "You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine. I lost it and need a new one. It had always been there."the mechanic gave the blonde a piece of paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like. She drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710.
