1 The Ferrari Club of America Board of Directors, on the 12th day of March 1973, authorized the Rocky Mountain Region as the 2nd recognized region for the USA. IL CAVALLO ROSSO There are close battles in both GT classes of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship entering Saturday s Lone Star Le Mans at Circuit of The Americas...September 20! With only two races remaining, Corvette Racing s Antonio Garcia has had his GT Le Mans (GTLM) lead trimmed to only six points, while five drivers representing three teams are tied atop the GT Daytona (GTD) standings. Can the Risi Competizione Ferrari F458 Italia, on the strength of back-to-back victories by co-drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Pierre Kaffer in the most recent races at Road America and Virginia International Raceway win this championship? The TUDOR United SportsCar Championship tackles Austin's Circuit of The Americas when all four classes compete in Saturday's Lone Star Le Mans. The weekend also includes the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge racing on Friday, a six-hour race for the World Endurance Championship in its lone U.S. appearance, and the first live streaming of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA on IMSA.com. Saturday, September 20 It's time to be thinking about the championships in all four TUDOR Championship classes with only two races remaining in the inaugural season. The Lone Star Le Mans will be televised live on FOX Sports 2 beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET. International live streaming is available on IMSA.com at 12:30 p.m. ET. The TUDOR Championship will be followed by the six-hour World Endurance Championship, with FOX Sports 2 covering all the action live from the green flag at 6 p.m. ET. Sunday, September 21 Check your local listings for a two-hour program on the FOX network with the highlights of Saturday's TUDOR Championship race. page 1
2 The President s Corner by Bert Smith Dear Members, I am offering two important points this month. Your board of directors consistently strives to provide our regional club members with a fantastic experience throughout the year. Our goals are shared with you and that means planning exceptional and extraordinary events. Some are casual and informal, but others require an incredible amount of logistical planning, negotiation and forethought. All of the events are the result of unselfish acts by volunteers within the club membership. Without these volunteers, we would not have any of these events which we enjoy so much. Recently, there has been an alarming trend, members who commit to attending an event then cancel their reservation at the last moment. Their spots more than likely remain empty and that creates a serious problem, both for the organizers and the club. Speaking frankly, it s disrespectful to the persons who organized the event and leaves them in a very awkward position with the vendors with whom they negotiated. If a restaurant or hotel is expecting 80 guests, it is not okay to show up with only 30. It makes both the organizers and the club look bad. We understand that things can happen that are beyond our control, but please remember that we risk losing these events and the people who volunteer their time to organize them. Moving on to point two. I have now been president and regional director for just over two years. The FCA national board would like elections to be held every two years and for the chapter presidency and Regional Director to change at least every four years. In addition, they would prefer that the elections take place in the fall or early winter so that the Regional Director can plan on attending the national RD meeting in March. Most of your board will be running for reelection this fall, but I will not. I have found that my business and our traveling activities take up too much time for me to be truly effective. If you would like to be president/rd, vice president, treasurer, secretary, etc., please contact one of the board members so that we can add your name to the upcoming ballot. You may nominate yourself or someone else (with their permission). Please include a short narrative to cover who you are and why you would like to be on the board. Nominations will close on October 10th. Always remember, this is a car club. Its sole purpose is for us to have fun and enjoy our cars. If you have ideas on how we can do that better or more often, we would love to hear from you and/or have you join the board. Compliments are accepted by all Board members but please consider sending me your concerns. Bert Regional Director/President page 2

12 Many of you have enjoyed participating in some (or many) of the thirty-three years of open track events sponsored by the Colorado Exotic Car Association (CECA) on most of Colorado s race tracks. For various organizational reasons, the Shelby American Automobile Club, Colorado Region (SAAC/COLO), as the Executive Associate of CECA, has accepted an appointment to assume sponsorship of the traditional slate of CECA track events for all future events. The customary format and program for these events will not change. As a founding member of CECA, SAAC/COLO has been significantly involved in organizing and staging all of CECA s past events. As your new sponsor, SAAC/ COLO welcomes you to our 34th season. Here is the remaining entire SAAC/COLO 2014 schedule. Join us for some fun.
