3 1.0 SCOPE 1.1 The purpose of this specification is to establish a standardthis specification establishes voluntary performance requirements of side-hinged door systems, and a test method and set of performance criteria for for the ability of a sidehinged door systems in the locked position to resist entry under a specified load and conditions. 1.2 This specification is limited to side-hinged door systems, regardless of materials or method of manufacture. 1.3 It is the intent of this specification to measure the ability of the operable leafslabs slabs to frustrate opportunistic entry by unskilled intruders. It is not intended to include side leafsfixed slabs, side lites or transoms. 1.4 The primary units of measure in this specification are metric. The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for reference only. 1.5 This document was developed in an open and consensus process and is maintained by representative members of AAMA as advisory information. 2.0 SIGNIFICANCE AND USE 2.1 This specification is intended to establish a measure of resistance of side-hinged door systems subjected to attacks by unskilled or opportunistic burglars. Resistance Forced entry resistance due to higher levels of force generated by skilled burglary attack or other intrusion methods requires methods, means such as alarms, communication, or apprehension systems, or special security more sophisticated than those evaluated by this specification. 2.2 Entry through a side-hinged door system can be accomplished by impacting breaking the glazing materials. This specification does not evaluate the resistance of glazing materials for against breakage due to deliberate impact or loading of the glazing. 3.0 SUMMARY OF SPECIFICATION 3.1 The specification consists of mounting a test specimen into a support fixture, and then applying specified loads to the test specimen in a prescribed sequence. Following removal of all loads, a determination is made whether or not entry can be gained through the test specimen. 3.0 REFERENCED STANDARDS 3.1 References to the standards listed below shall be to the edition indicated. Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this standard shall be interpreted as to referring to the latest edition of that code or standard. 3.2 American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) AAMA 1304-XX, Draft #7, 2/21/2018 Page 1

Calibration shall be conducted as specified in AAMA LAP Load Attachments Brackets, fasteners, or other devices used in performing the testing shall be designed and attached so as to minimize their influence on the test results. 4.3 Support Fixture The support fixture shall be designed to accept and rigidly support the specimen, providing for no deflection of any portion of the support fixture in excess of 3.2 mm (1/ in) under full load. 4.4 Point Loading The load application device must apply a load over an area no less than cm 2 (3 in 2 ) and no more than cm 2 (6 in 2 ) utilizing a material which will not measurably deform under the applied load. 5.0 TEST SPECIFICATIONSSPECIMENS 45.1 The test specimen shall be of the same size configuration, material, hardware, components and anchorage for which approval is sought. 5.2 Installation shall be per the manufacturer s installation instructions. 5.1 Test specimen and hardware shall be installed in accordance with manufacturer s instructions. 5.2 Qualification Criteria Specimens tested with more than one locking/latching points device shall not qualify side-hinged door systems with fewer locking devices/latching points Testing of inswing door systems shall qualify outswing door systems, and vice versa, where the only difference is the sill, which determines direction of door swing. and vice versa as long as the following conditions are met.: Same door slab construction Same locking hardware Same hinges Same glazing The test unit shall contain weakest glazing in the largest size for which qualification is sought. Testing of a glazed slab qualifies the glazing size tested and all smaller glazed openings. AAMA 1304-XX, Draft #7, 2/21/2018 Page 2
5 5.2.4 Testing of glazed slabs shall not be permitted to qualify opaquenon-glazed slabs and vice versa.testing of glazed slabs shall qualify opaque slabs 4.3 Each operable leaf shall be tested, regardless of active or passive designation. 4.4 A 135 kg (300 lb), single individual point load shall be applied in any direction that would tend to open the leaf within 300 mm (6 in) of each operable leaf lockstile corner, and within 150 mm (3 in) above the lock. 4.5 The duration of the load at peak shall be 30 seconds at each location. 5.0 APPARATUS 5.1 Instrumentation Load and time measuring equipment with an accuracy of ±2% of the full scale shall be used to conduct the testing. Scale ranges with an accuracy of ±5% shall be used to conduct the testing. 5.2 All instrumentation shall bear records of calibration, and shall be traceable to the National Institute for Standards and Testing (NIST) located in Washington D.C. 5.3 Load Attachments Brackets, fasteners, or other devices used in performing the testing shall be designed and attached so as to minimize their influence on the test results. 5.4 Support Fixture The support fixture shall be designed to accept and rigidly support the specimen, providing for no deflection of any portion of the support fixture in excess of 3 mm (1/8 in) under full load. 5.5 Point Loading The load application tool must apply a load over an area no less than 20 cm 2 (3 in 2 ) and no more than 40 cm 2 (6 in 2 ) utilizing a material which will not measurably deform under the applied load. 6.0 HAZARDS 6.1 Locking devicesmechanisms, other components, and glazing and other components may abruptly and suddenly fail under load. Adequate precautions shall be taken to protect personnel from projectiles, glazing breakage, rapidly opening leafslabs, or test equipment disengagement. 7.0 PREPARATION 7.1 Install the test specimen into the support fixture using manufacturer s installation instructions. Submit each operable leaf to five cycles of opening, closing, locking and unlocking prior to testing. 7.0 PROCEDURE 7.1 Install the test specimen into the support fixture using manufacturer s installation instructions. Submit each operable slab to five cycles of opening, closing, locking and unlocking prior to testing. AAMA 1304-XX, Draft #7, 2/21/2018 Page 3
6 7.2 Each operable slab shall be tested, and evaluated to the pass/fail criteria independently, regardless of active or passive designation. Note 1: See Appendix A for examples of the application of loads. 8.1 Visually determine appropriate locations described in A kg (300 lb) single point load shall be applied at locations specified in and on to the slab face in the direction that would tend to open the slab. Note 1: See Appendix A for examples of the application of loads Apply the load within a mm (6 in) radius of each operable slab lock stile corner In addition to the loads specified in Section 7.3.1, ffor door assemblies with cylindricalall lock types, apply the load along the lock bore backset vertical centerline, and above the upper bore. The load point shall be no more than 152 mm (6 in) above the horizontal center line of the primary upper boredeadbolt engagement For door assemblies with multipoint locks apply the load along the lock handle pivot axis vertical centerline, and above the uppermost of the handle or thumb turn. The load point shall be no more than mm (3 in) above the horizontal center line of the uppermost of the handle or thumb turn axis Gradually applyapply, maintain, and then release a single individual pointthe load of 135 kg (300 lb) toat each location separately. The sequence of loading points is to be determined by the test laboratory and/or manufacturershall be from the top to the bottom of the slab. The time to reach the applied load shall not exceed 30 sec.the load shall be applied at a rate that will minimize influence on the tested specimen 4.5 The duration of load at peak shall be 30 seconds at each location. 7.5 Once the load level is reached it shall be held for 30 seconds. 8.0 PASS/FAIL CRITERIA 8.1 At the conclusion of testingimmediately after the load is released, there shall be no opening, including broken glazing, through which access to the interior hardware, locking devices, or where the hardware could be manipulated to allow opening of the slab. In addition, there shall be no opening, including broken glazing, which allows for entrance through the tested specimen. The leafslab shall remain locked and closed. Locks and hinges shall not disengage. 9.0 REPORT 9.1 The report shall contain: AAMA 1304-XX, Draft #7, 2/21/2018 Page 4
