3 Need for Road Safety... Hi Friend, Today I heard that this week (11th to 17th Jan) is Road Safety Week, But why a these we use our roads daiy! Even though we use our roads daiy do you know that more than 1 Lakh peope ose their ives every year in Road Accidents. Hohhhh..? Hence, to strengthen the awareness on road safety systems, Rues & Reguations, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways ceebrate this week as Road Safety Week. 2
4 Yes! I pedge my support to Road Safe India and to save ives on road. I wi be a responsibe driver / rider / pedestrian. I wi observe a the traffic rues and reguations concerning safe driving and safe use of the road. I wi not aow distractions ike ce phone usage, taking, etc to take my focus off the road. I wi aways be aware of my surroundings whie driving / crossing roads. I wi not drink or take medication or drugs and drive. I wi not over speed or give into road rage or rash driving. I wi not put others ives at risk, if my heath is a hazard to driving. I wi ensure the usage of seatbet or hemet for a passengers. I wi cross ony at the zebra crossing. I wi maintain a roadworthy vehice and ensure I use indicators, mirrors and ights appropriatey as and when necessary. I wi share the road with pedestrians, bicycists, motorcycists, arge truck and bus drivers. I hereby decare my commitment to the Road Safe India pedge as set out above, to the best of my abiity and wi activey strive to foow the rues and reguation of the road. 3
5 Aways obey Traffic Signas. Aways use Zebra Crossing whie crossing the roads. These are specia points for pedestrians to cross roads. They are marked with white stripes parae to the road. 4
6 Road Crossway (Zebra Crossings) is ony for Pedestrians. Stop for Zebra Crossing. 5
7 Aways seect suitabe hemets whie riding bike or cyce. Don t wear hemets without chin strap. Don t wear oose cothes whie riding bike or cyce. 6
8 Be seen by wearing Bright Coour cothes in the Day and Light or Reflective Coour cothes in the Dark. Aways put your seat bet "ON" whie driving four wheeer. Seect proper seat bet which suits your kids too. 7
9 Aways park vehices in Designated Parking Zone. Do not park in no parking area. Do not use mobie phone whie driving. 8

11 You must drive on the Left Side of the road. Overtake ony from the Right. Aways wak on the Footpath. Where there is no footpath, wak in the Right Side margin of the road so that you can see the traffic coming in the opposite direction. 10

15 Aways ensure the avaiabiity of First Aid Kit in your vehice. Aways ensure that your vehice Spare Tyres are in good condition. 14
16 Aways park your vehice on the Left Side of the road. Use Parking Light & Caution Triange whie attending breakdown. Aways be Cautious whie Opening the vehice door on roads. 15
17 Do not exceed ega speed imits - "There is a reason behind". Remember that speed imits are a maximum, not a target. Look for Speed Limit & abide with. Do not drive vehices if you fee seepy. It wi ead to Accidents. 16

28 Tips for avoiding driver fatigue Get penty of seep before starting off. Avoid starting a ong drive at the end of the day. Avoid driving between 10 pm and 6 am or when you woud normay be aseep. Share the driving if you can. Aim to stop for 15 minutes for every two hours. Pu over and stop when you notice the warning signs of fatigue. Have ight snacks rather than fatty foods. Avoid too much coffee or sweet soft drinks. Drink penty of water - dehydration can cause fatigue. Stay away from acoho at a costs. Stop before you're tired. 27
