Paula Genovese Trooper Ladies of Harley Easy Street and Lucky Lane; love the address for the English Rose Tea Room. We had a nice lunch in a cozy atmosphere with real china cups and cute little spoons. Brown sugar cubes were available for your tea if you preferred. I had never seen those before. Hats were available if you didn t wear one. We got into the custom. The food was different (but good) and the company even better. We enjoyed good service and a nice visit with each other. On August 28th, I will host a tea at my house for all the Ladies of Harley... hats are optional. Tea will commence at four o clock. Come and let s visit, relax, and have some good eats and tea. I will provide a sparkling punch for those who do not like tea. Please RSVP by August 25 by telephone or . Paula Trooper Genovese Ladies of Harley Cell: LOH@anthemhog.com 3

T here is a new face in the service department at Buddy Stubbs Anthem Harley-Davidson. Meagan Morrison may have started working in the parts and service departments at Buddy Stubbs Anthem H-D in October 2016, but her experiences with motorcycles and the motorcycle industry include serving as the receptionist at Buddy Stubbs in Phoenix, as well as Black Hills Harley-Davidson. While in South Dakota, she was involved in the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Her work experience also includes having worked behind the parts counter and in the service department. She is factory-certified in each department and has earned masters in parts and staff level recognition. She was born into a military family, so she does not hail from any one place. However, if money were no object, she would live in Colorado or South Dakota because they are Two of the most beautiful states I've ever lived in or visited and both have excellent riding. Meagan currently rides a Buell Blast, but concedes that she s outgrown it. She thinks that a Dyna may be in her future. She puts about 7,000 miles per year on her current ride something that will probably change when she gets a bigger bike. She s the type of rider who loves to pack the bags and take off with no particular destination in mind... with a preference for regular coffee and mint chocolate chip ice cream to keep her spirit fueled along the way. When asked why anyone should consider having service performed by Buddy Stubbs Anthem H-D, she replied: We are a full service shop with factory-trained staff. Not only can we keep your motorcycle maintained, we also offer full customization services. Whether it's reliability, performance, comfort, or looks, we can make those dreams a reality! We are also owned and operated by the Stubbs family, not a corporate company, which adds a personal touch to the services we provide. I strive to give every customer the highest level of service possible, and take care of customers the same way I would expect to be taken care of myself. Next time you re at the dealership, stop by the service department and say howdy to Meagan. 4

Road rash, swamp a**, and monkey butt. We ve heard these terms before, but we don t talk much about it Because it centers on a sensitive topic: our gluteus maximus. This part of our anatomy is often the butt of much humor. However, it deserves serious consideration since this part of our body serves as the primary point of contact with our motorcycle and failure to take care of our behinds is just assking for trouble. Seriously, though, there are two primary considerations when taking care of your bottom line. The first is preventing problems before they happen, and the second is finding a cure when problems develop. Prevention Keith Preston Potter Editor The top three ways to stay comfortable while riding are: keep it clean, wear the right clothing, and have a seating configuration that fits you properly. There s an old adage that states: Cleanliness is next to Godliness. The first consideration to avoid bottom discomfort is personal hygiene. Good hygiene reduces the number of microscopic critters living on our bodies that promote the development of rashes on our skin. These microscopic organisms are natural and can never be fully removed. However, they thrive in dark, moist environments and when they multiply, problems develop. If you ve ever changed a baby s diaper, you know what I mean. A clean body is the first defense against an imbalanced micro biome. The second line of defense is moisture control. Wearing a base layer with moisture-wicking properties is essential when spending hours in the saddle. A base layer or underwear made from a cotton/synthetic blend draws perspiration away from your body and reduces moisture buildup by facilitating evaporation. This reduces the likelihood of developing swamp butt. Wearing 100% cotton may be comfortable, but pure cotton does not have the same wicking properties as cotton/synthetic blends. Some garments include fabric that is antimicrobial, which also discourages growth of rash-causing microbes. Riding pants should be constructed of durable, breathable material and fit comfortably in both seated and standing positions. If your jeans are too tight, then your long-term comfort may be in question. Finally, the seat on your motorcycle is an important consideration. It should be supportive, cushion your ride, and fit your anatomy. Leather breathes and is often a better choice than vinyl. Extra cushioning is a good thing. Some seats feature gel or air bladders for added cushion or comfort. Experienced riders 5

often use seat pads that add additional padding and/or moisture control. These pads come in a wide range of materials and construction: sheepskin, mesh, and air bladders are just a few examples. There are many choices and price ranges. Ask other riders what they use and do your own research before deciding on which seat and/or pad is right for you. You ll probably hear many opinions based upon the experience of others. Bottom line: do your own research and (if possible) try seating arrangements out before you buy them. Cure Even with preventative measures, we still may find ourselves dealing with a case of monkey butt after spending many hours on the road. Rashes, itching, and general discomfort should be addressed if or when they develop. When problems occur, there are some simple remedies to consider: - Stop riding. This is not always a realistic option, especially if you re on a multi-day riding adventure. For weekend warriors, however, this method usually works. - Medicated powder. There are several brands out there. Do your own research and find one that s right for you. - Ointments. The most common are those associated with managing infant diaper rash. These are effective when applied properly. Taking care of your bottom line is essential for personal riding comfort; the most important aspect for enjoying your motorcycle. Knowing your equipment both body and bike is the best strategy to avoid the dreaded road rash. Proper preparations will ensure many comfortable miles ahead. Our chapter needs Road Captains. Have you ever wanted to lead the pack on a group ride? If you answered YES, contact Rory Kraft, Head Road Captain, at roadcaptain@anthemhog.com YOU may be the next Road Captain to lead chapter members on fun, interesting, and safe rides. 6

Kim Swan Activities Officer As you may or may not have heard, I have been having some trouble with members not receiving s from Activities. I must point out this only seem to be centered on Activities s and not other Chapter Officer s s. I have been working with the Webmaster to correct this problem and we believe we have it fixed. However, I need your help. If you are not receiving the Upcoming Ride Schedule that is mailed on Wednesdays, please notify me as soon as possible at activities@anthemhog.com. Thank you for your patience and support. Each month, one lucky chapter member has his or her national H.O.G. membership number hidden somewhere in Chapter Chatter, our monthly newsletter. The member number is randomly selected and the Editor does his best to make it a challenge to find. Why? Because we want you to read all of the items contained in our monthly newsletters. It is a great way to keep up with the latest rides and activities. If you find your membership number, please contact editor@anthemhog.com to announce your discovery. Then, at the next monthly meeting, please attend to claim your prize. Do you have a story to tell? How about an article of interest? Perhaps you took a trip recently, or modified your bike, or would like to comment on riding gear. Chapter Chatter is for you and about you. We need your input. Please send ideas, suggestions, or your own items for consideration to editor@anthemhog.com Thank you for reading Chapter Chatter. US

Please repeat it with me: LOOK AHEAD, STAY ALERT, CHECK BEHIND. In the Anthem HOG Chapter, we walk our talk when we make the claim to be the chapter that rides. We sponsor rides almost every weekend. There is almost always a ride on Saturday and another on Sunday. For us, it s all about the rides. The distances and destinations vary, the roads are often scenic, interesting, and fun. Road Captains ensure that everyone has a good time and a safe time riding throughout our beautiful state. Guests are welcome to ride with us anytime, no matter what type of bike they ride. 10

Jim Swan Swannee Secretary Minutes General Meeting: Anthem HOG Chapter #2376, July 15, 2017 Location: Anthem Buddy Stubbs HOG Meeting Room Attendance: Members and Guests Present: 29 Officers Present: Officers Absent: Jeff Feldstein (Assistant Director), Sharon Ackerman (Treasurer), Jim Swan (Secretary & Membership Officer), Rory Kraft (Head Road Captain), Kim Swan (Activities Officer), Brian Hicks (Safety Officer). Keith Preston (Editor), Adrienne Coro (Photographer), Paula Genovese (LOH), Todd Carter (Webmaster). Jeff Feldstein called the meeting to order at 10:00 am. The Pledge of Allegiance was stated by all. Jeff Feldstein-Assistant Director: I want to welcome all the members and guests today. I appreciate you enduring the heat to attend our chapter meeting. We are pleased to have most of the Officers here today. Are there any guest or new members? [Guest]: My name is Larrie Fraley. I am a new member and I ride a 2016 Road Glide. I have been a member of Arrowhead but I have moved this direction and wanted to find out more about this chapter. Assistant Director: Thank you very much and welcome aboard. During our meeting today, you will be able to watch a video on the TV of Rory s ride to and from Pennsylvania. Sharon Ackerman-Treasurer: As of the end of June we have $ in our account. All the money collected for St Mary s has been distributed. Therefore, all the money in our account belongs to the Chapter. Plus, I have copies of the 2017 Year-End Fiscal Financial Statement to be attached to the meeting minutes. Jim Swan-Secretary: I have nothing to report. Jeff Feldstein-Acting Editor: Our Editor is in New Mexico. He asked me to tell you that no one has notified him that they found their National HOG number that was hidden in the Chapter Chatter. Therefore, no one won the $20 gift card. So, make sure you look for your number while reading next month s newsletter. 11

Jim Swan-Membership Officer: After the last meeting, membership had a great day. Thanks to the help of Al Harper and Jeff Feldstein, we added four new members. Al brought his son, Ryan, to the chapter and Jeff and Al talked with prospective members while I was talking to other prospects. Thanks to their assistance, we grew the chapter to 100 members. Also, as you will recall, we have a new membership program that when the dealership sells a new motorcycle the purchaser receives a complementary membership for the balance of the year. Our first new member from this program is Terri Hochnadel. When you have a chance to meet her, please welcome her to the chapter. Terri brings the membership count to 101. I told Terri about our New Member Incentive because her husband, Brian, also rides and we would like him to join. And, with Larrie Fraley joining today, I am pleased say that the chapter membership has grown to 102. I say again, you are the chapter s best ambassadors. Please talk to your friends and family about the benefits of Anthem HOG. We have two members, Clive Francis and Kathy Kraft, that have brought in two new members each and their dues will be free for Plus, we have five members that each have brought in one new member. They only need one more for free 2018 dues. Finally, I have the scanner for your Loyalty Reward card. Please see me after the meeting. Jeff Feldstein-Assistant Director: As you know, Rodney Benner resigned as Director after selling his trike. Subsequently, Janet Benner, our Activities Officer, expressed a desire to leave her position, since she and Rodney were no longer riding, if a replacement could be found. Kim Swan volunteered to pick up where Janet left off for the balance of the year. The Board of Directors approved this officer change. Therefore, I would like to introduce our new Activities Officer, Kim Swan and present her with an Activities Officer patch. Kim Swan-Activities Officer: First, we need to thank Janet for her two and a half years work as Activities Officer. She has done an excellent job and she will be missed. She will be a hard act to follow. One of the first things I want to do is check everyone s . As you have heard, we have had some issues with a few people not receiving notifications from Activities. Over the next week I will be sending out some test s and if you would reply to me that you have received the test, I would appreciate it. Thanks for your assistance. The Christmas Party has been set for December 9 th at the Horny Toad in Cave Creek. Please save this date on your calendar. Next, I would like to review the upcoming rides. Tomorrow, July 16 th, Swannee will be leading a ride to Rock Springs Café for breakfast. We are meeting at 7:00 am at McDonalds for a short ride before arriving at Rock Springs about 8:15 am. On Saturday, July 22 nd, the Navigator will lead a ride to Bearizona located in Williams, Arizona. Meet at McDonalds at 7:00 am and it is 150 miles one-way. This is a Dealer Sponsored Ride so you will earn 25 Loyalty Reward points for attending the ride. There is an entry fee for Bearizona and you will be riding on a bus through the park. Since the animals roam around the park, you will not be allowed to be on your motorcycle. On Sunday, July 23 rd, Fluffy will be leading a ride to Hopdotty s Burger Bar in Scottsdale. It is a 26- mile ride. Meet at 9:30 am at McDonalds. I suggest you go online to check out all the burger selections before you go. 13 the cool country of Pine, AZ. It is 120 miles one way and we will meet at McDonalds at 8:00 am. Then on Sunday, July 30 th, Navigator will be leading a ride to Portillo s Hot Dogs in Scottsdale. Meet at McDonalds at 10:00 am for this 35-mile ride. Rory Kraft-Head Road Captain: Rory reviewed his video, playing on the Chapter TV, of his trip to Pennsylvania, which included his ride on the Tail of the Dragon. Brian Hicks-Safety Officer: I want to thank Jeff for introducing the subject that I want to talk about today Look Ahead / Stay Alert / Check Behind. This is a personal safety motto that I created for my own use. During a recent long ride, I kept thinking of the motto in my mind to help keep me alert. Look Ahead--look as far as you can, look through the turns, not just immediately ahead of the motorcycle, watch on-coming traffic, be mindful of vehicles ahead in your lane, be courteous to other drivers, watch for vehicles turning left in front of you and watch vehicle converging into your lane. Stay Alert take regular breaks, stay hydrated, stop if you are tired, resist day-dreaming, watch for changing road conditions and changes in the weather, slow down if you need to, assess your motorcycle s vitals, maintain proper intervals, choose an appropriate lane, keep your eye on oncoming vehicles front wheel for changes, look twice left and right at stop signs and yield to pedestrians and bicycles. Check Behind glance in your mirrors frequently, look over your shoulder before changing lanes and use both turn signals and hand signals. For more details regarding my motto, it will be published in total in the next Chapter Chatter. Thank you. 50/50 Raffle for $36 winner is Pat Hurley $25 gift certificate from Buddy Stubbs winner is Larrie Fraley, our new member Key Fob donated by Rory Kraft from Alabama winner is Mike Duff. Motion was made by Kathy Kraft to adjourn and it was seconded by Kim Swan. Jeff Feldstein adjourned the meeting at 10:45 am. Respectfully Submitted, Jim Swan Secretary 13
