3 Presidential Perspective The highlight of May was the New Members Dinner hosted by Nedra Rummell at the Green Dragon Tavern and Museum. 78 members including 25 new members joined for an evening of fun and good food. Paul Novak conducted Concours 101 and Judges training in Balboa Park, convenient for the South County folks, and has scheduled another session in North County for June 20 at Classic Showcase in Oceanside. Maintaining a staff of qualified judges is essential for the success of our Concours. If you would like to become a judge, contact Paul. No experience is required for training. After training, you will be a judge trainee assigned to a judging team at this year s Concours. June 28 is our next event this year, the MCRD Car Show on the Bay. Even if you do not intend to display your car on the base s Bay View Marina lawn, join us for a relaxing afternoon including a no host breakfast and lunch at the Marine s Bay View Club or bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the lovely grounds. The cars will be judged by Marines and the Commanding General will present the trophies. Come meet the General and the young Marines that live and work on the base. On 30 June this year, the club will be represented at the Del Mar Fair. Free admission to the Fair for you and your guests comes with your display entry. This event is limited, so contact Katherine Partain to reserve your spot. See page 5 for complete information. You may receive the next newsletter very close to the deadline to register for the July 19th Concours, so I need to mention it here, register early. The event usually sells out. It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end to end, someone would be stupid enough to try to pass. 5 12th Annual SDJC Day at the San Diego County Fair Tuesday, June 30, 2015 In exchange for entering your Jaguar automobile in the Fair car show, you will receive free admission to the fair on this day for yourself and up to three guests. We will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the Albertson s parking lot on Villa De La Valle and caravan over to the Fairgrounds at 9:30. Cars must remain in the display area until 3:00 p.m. The show awards will be announced at about 2:45 p.m. Free parking will be available to those people who wish to remain at the fair after the car show is over. 11 Directions to SDJC Concours Spanish Landing is on the south side of Harbor Drive directly across from the Terminal 2 exit from San Diego International Airport (Lindbergh Field). From I-5, follow the signs to the Airport. This will place you westbound on Harbor Drive. Go past the Terminal 1 and Harbor Drive traffic signals and watch for the Spanish Landing signs. Turn left into the park at the traffic signal for the exit from Terminal 2. There will be San Diego Jaguar Club Signs marking the location. Photo Detail Area Concours Entrance Harbor Drive Show Field The San Diego Jaguar Club plans this as a show and a picnic. If you are traveling from out of town and cannot pack a picnic lunch, box lunches can be pre-ordered on the registration form, and soft drinks and water will be available for purchase on site for $1. Overnight motor home and trailer parking is not allowed in Spanish Landing Park. There are county, state, and privately operated parks that accommodate overnight stays. One such is De Anza Harbor Resort at 2727 De Anza Rd., about seven miles from Spanish Landing ( ). There is often space past the west end of the Concours field that can accommodate day-of-show trailer and tow vehicle parking. If available, space is allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. 14 New Member Dinner Green Dragon Tavern & Museum Article by Jim Hallameyer, photos by Roger McDonald Our gracious host for the evening, and Membership Chairperson, Nedra Rummell. The New Member Dinner on May 9, 2015, was a smashing success! 25 of our newest SDJC Members joined with 53 seasoned Members for a wonderful evening of good food and wine at the Green Dragon Tavern and Museum in Carlsbad, California. Membership Chairperson, Nedra Rummell, outdid herself again in planning this event. Each year it gets better and better. I don t know how she does it! Nedra assigned seating at the round dining tables by car type and placed new and seasoned Members side by side. What a great formula! New friendships were forged with lots of conversation as the evening progressed. Debby Novak with Tom & Marlene Anderson Lynn Wyatt with Harry & Carmi Cosmos flanked by the Allen family, Dave, Marie & son. The weather was classic San Diego; balmy with mild temperatures and no overcast. Most Members brought their Jags out for a beautiful evening drive. The ever humble Vic smiled broadly as the Members sang Happy Birthday to him. After blowing out the candles, he expressed a heartfelt thank you to all his Jaguar Club friends. Vic is certainly one of the classiest guys I know and a true gentleman! A second highlight of the evening was the presentation of a JCNA Newsletter Award in the category of Heritage to your Jaguar Tracks Editor, Jim Hallameyer, for an article that appeared in the September, 2014, edition of the Jaguar Tracks. The article titled, Rembering Orson, The Legacy Continues tells of the long history of support provided by the San Diego Jaguar Club to the San Diego Zoo s Jaguar exhibit. 18 By Paul Novak Chief Judge San Diego Jaguar Club This article provides information about the Jaguar Clubs of North America (JCNA) Concours d Elegance Program to help you understand more about this interesting aspect of Jaguar ownership. If you are a seasoned concours Entrant or Judge, I hope this will help you enjoy it more. If you have never participated, I hope this will encourage you to join in the fun, challenge and excitement Concours Judges Training Here are the remaining concours training classes for this year: Concours 201 Hands-On Practice Judging Saturday 6 June 9 AM 12:30 PM at Jaguar San Diego, 4525 Convoy St., San Diego, CA. This class gets Apprentice Judges and Judges (optional for Certified Judges) up to speed for our concours. Experience as an Apprentice Judge or JCNA certified Judge is required. Includes hands-on practice judging of participants Jaguars using score sheets, Rule Books and Judge s Guides. Please RSVP by 3 June. Concours 301 Annual Judges Refresher Training Saturday 20 June at Classic Showcase, 2640 Vista Pacific Drive, Oceanside, CA, 9 AM to 12:30 PM. This JCNA Judges Refresher Training, required to recertify Judges for the current concours year, includes a PowerPoint presentation, a review of the JCNA Concours Rule Book, and discussions of the latest Rule Book changes for The written 2015 Judges Test will be administered. It is an excellent way for Judges, Entrants, and others to learn more about the JCNA Concours. Everyone is welcome to attend. Please RSVP by 17 June so we can have adequate refreshments and training materials available for everyone. *The Top Ten Secrets to Preparing Your Jaguar to be Judged at JCNA Concours: 10. Start preparations early. 9. Join the JCNA, Jag-Lovers.org or other websites and participate in discussions about your Jaguar and concours competition to learn more. 8. Attend a formal JCNA judge training session (even if you don t intend to be a judge). 7. Network with other concours participants in your Division/Class for tips and help. 6. The Jaguar San Diego dealership and ebay are great sources of Jaguar parts if you need to replace a missing or damaged item. 5. Get the JCNA Judges Guide, Seminar Bulletins, brochures and factory parts lists for your Jaguar. 4. Judge your Jaguar out-of-doors and in different sun-angles with an official JCNA score sheet about 1 month prior to the concours. Be thorough and objective. Make a list of things to correct and correct them. 3. Check that all the light bulbs and horns work properly 1 week prior to concours. 2. Remove all aftermarket or non-authentic items from your Jaguar 2 days prior to concours. and... The Number One Secret to Preparing Your Jaguar to be Judged at JCNA Concours: 1.
