3 Presidential Perspective This month is our Concours d Elegance at Spanish Landing Park on July 19th. It is one of our bigger events. Dan and his Concours staff have been working for a year planning it. This is our 51st Concours. I hope you will attend, if not as an entrant, then as an observer. Entries are filling up fast. This is our Club event for July, so come by, bring a picnic lunch and spend the day with friends surrounded by 70 or more Jaguars. It s a beautiful park on the Bay. The Car Show on the Bay at MCRD on June 28th, chaired by our own Mark Burhart, brought out a number cars from the Club and hundreds of impressive entries in a variety of categories. Next month s issue will have pictures and details. Again this year, Katherine Partain organized the Jaguar Day at the Fair. Since that event was on June 30, pictures will be in the next issue. The Proctors are putting the finishing touches on the Concours Afterglow. This year it will be on Sunday, August 9, 2015, in the Grand Ballroom at the Grand Pacific Palisades in Carlsbad. 9 Directions to SDJC Concours Spanish Landing is on the south side of Harbor Drive directly across from the Terminal 2 exit from San Diego International Airport (Lindbergh Field). From I-5, follow the signs to the Airport. This will place you westbound on Harbor Drive. Go past the Terminal 1 and Harbor Drive traffic signals and watch for the Spanish Landing signs. Turn left into the park at the traffic signal for the exit from Terminal 2. There will be San Diego Jaguar Club Signs marking the location. Photo Detail Area Concours Entrance Harbor Drive Show Field The San Diego Jaguar Club plans this as a show and a picnic. If you are traveling from out of town and cannot pack a picnic lunch, box lunches can be pre-ordered on the registration form, and soft drinks and water will be available for purchase on site for $1. Overnight motor home and trailer parking is not allowed in Spanish Landing Park. There are county, state, and privately operated parks that accommodate overnight stays. One such is De Anza Harbor Resort at 2727 De Anza Rd., about seven miles from Spanish Landing ( ). There is often space past the west end of the Concours field that can accommodate day-of-show trailer and tow vehicle parking. If available, space is allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. 13 JOC LA CONCOURS At the Muckenthaler Cultural Center May 17, 2015, Fullerton, CA Article and photos by Mark Hodges I just got home after attending the Los Angeles Jaguar Club s Concours d Elegance at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton. The Muckenthaler Cultural Center, or Muck, as it is affectionately known, hosts an annual car show on its grounds the Sunday after Mother s Day. The grounds were full of beautifully kept and restored cars from all era s and areas. There were cars dating all the way back to the 1920 s; there were 1960 s American muscle cars; there were exotic foreign makes, and then there were our Jag s. There were also about a dozen Display Only Jags. Members from Los Angeles, San Diego, the Inland Empire, and Central Arizona clubs brought their cars to the show. Seven San Diego members made the drive up north, bringing eight cars. All six San Diego cars that were entered in the Champion Class and Driven Class won a first place trophy. Here is the breakdown: The LA Jag Club piggy-backs their Concours d Elegance on the Muck s. Our Jags had their own corral area and we were free to view all the other cars while enjoying the many amenities of the Muckenthaler show. Now let s get ready for a great San Diego Concours at Spanish Landing in July overlooking our beautiful bay and waterfront harbor. Tom Krefetz s 1971 E-Type V Coupe. We had the tree lined area so our Jag s had just enough shade to keep them cool but not too much to interfere with the viewing. It was just another beautiful and relaxing day. Even the drive up the I-5 was stress free. It was my first show of the year, and boy, was it a doozie. After Rags Down was called, there was plenty of time to mingle and catch up with the current happenings of old friends. Last Minute Secrets to Preparing Your Jaguar to be Judged at JCNA Concours: 4. Judge your Jaguar yourself out-of-doors and in different sun-angles with an official JCNA score sheet prior to the concours. Be thorough and objective. Make a list of things to correct and correct them. 3. Check that all the light bulbs and horns work properly 1 week prior to concours. 2. Remove all aftermarket or non-authentic items from your Jaguar 2 days prior to concours. 1. 17 Judge s Training Jaguar San Diego, Saturday, June 6, 2015 Article by Jim Hallameyer, Editor Photos by Kathleen Steele Many thanks to Robert Deck, Service Manager at Jaguar San Diego, for making space available at the dealership so Paul Novak, SDJC Chief Judge, could conduct a training session in preparation for our annual concours on July 19. Paul set this up as a hands on practice session using a few cars provided by members. In addition to Paul, attendees included Dan Jensen, Mitch Cohen, Al and Kathleen Steele, and Katherine Partain. It just so happened this training session was also the date of Katherine s birthday, so cake was brought along to celebrate the occasion. Let it never be said that SDJC members forget the important milestones in our lives. Paul also conducted training sessions for judges at the San Diego Automotive Museum on May 9, 2015, and at Classic Showcase on June 20. Many thanks also to Paula Brandes at the San Diego Automotive Museum and Tom Krefetz at Classic Showcase for making those venues available to our club for the all important task of keeping our judges current and training new ones. Last, but certainly not least, heartfelt thanks is extended to two very important people. They are our Chief Judge Paul Novak for his diligence in ensuring that cars at our shows are judged in a fair and consistant manner in accordance with JCNA rules, and Dick Cavicke, former SDJC Chief Judge, who now continues his service as Chief Judge and Chairman of the Judge s Concours Rules Committee for Jaguar Clubs of North America. 18 San Diego Jaguar Club Board of Directors Meeting Minutes - June 10, 2015 The meeting was called to order at Jaguar San Diego at 6:30 p.m. by President, George Klein. The following Board members were present: Nedra Rummell; Dan Jensen; Ali Proctor; Al Steele; Tim Bennett; Lloyd Prosser; Mark Hodges, Webmaster; and Jim Hallameyer, Newsletter Editor. Absent: Bob Proctor; and Vic Chang. Also present: Paul Novak, Chief Judge; Dave Putnam, BCCC Representative; and Debbie Bennett. Secretary s Report: February Minutes were approved electronically. There were no May Minutes as meeting was cancelled. Treasurer s Report: Al Steele - Tax Returns for 2014 are filed. Federal Tax Exempt status has been restored. Nedra - club is in good standing. First Vice President s Activities Report: Events Preview - 6/20/15 Paul Novak s Judges 301 Training at Classic Showcase. 6/28/15 MCRD Car Show on the Bay to be hosted by Marc Burhart to aid Military families. 25 spots reserved for SDJC. 6/30/15 Jaguar Day at the Fair. 7/19/15 SDJC 51st Concours d Elegance. 8/9/15 Afterglow Luncheon. Ali submitted a request, on behalf of Bob, for up to $ subsidy for event. Mark made a motion to approve and Dan seconded. After discussion motion was approved. Nedra made some suggestions for future events. As always please check Jag Tracks and Website for news and information on upcoming events. Membership Report: Nedra presented the following prospective members to the Board via for approval: ADAM & CHRISTINA SCHMIDT. Upon a motion by Ali and seconded by George, they were unanimously approved. Nedra will renew the SDJC car club membership with The San Diego Automotive Museum. Also, Nedra requested to be reimbursed by Club for New Member Night overage Board approved. Newsletter Editor s Report: Jim will get pictures from Mark Hodges for both the JOC LA Concours and Jaguar Day at the Fair. Functional Chair Reports: BCCC: Dave Putnam no report. Website: Mark Website is up to date. He will upload the San Diego Automotive Museum newsletter to the site going forward. Mark has added a link to register for MCRD car show on website. Mark is also redoing Logo Wear page and improving images. Advertising: Dan He has received another ad from XK s Unlimited and all advertisers are now in. Concours: Dan Concours is on track and already has 42 entries (29 judged). Mark is helping with action items list. Tim Bennett will change banner to read 51st Annual Concours. Dan might have Bob send out one reminder soon. Dealer Representative: Jim Jaguar San Diego will bring 4 cars to the Concours. Nedra to invoice Jaguar San Diego for $1, Concours donation. Logo Wear no report. Old Business: George unveiled the new branded canopy to the board. Chief Judge Paul Novak still has the Annual Judges Refresher Training coming up at Classic Showcase, and he also announced that both Al Steele, and Mitch Cohen had completed requirements for judging. Paul feels there may be approximately 20 judges, including those from JOC LA and IEJC at our 2015 Concours, although it is still too early to tell. New Business: George noted that he will be travelling on the day of the Election Brunch and Bob would have to handle Master of Ceremonies Duties. As there was no further business, a motion was made by Jim and seconded by Dan and the meeting was adjourned at 7:22 p.m. The next board meeting is scheduled for July 8, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. at Jaguar San Diego.
