New developments of hybrid and electric cars were presented as well as new funds were asigned to different projects that aim to improve the performance of this batteries in electric cars. In the lithium field, we would like to highlight the commissioning of the first production wells and the filling of Orocobre s first evaporation pond at its Olaroz Lithium project, in Argentina. Finally we wanted to announce that by the end of the month we will release the fourth issue of our report Li-Stats, that presents statistics information from major lithium producer countries. Johnson Controls introduces a micro hybrid battery Date: September 11th Source: Johnson Controls Johnson Controls has introduced a 48-volt lithium-ion micro hybrid battery designed as energy storage solutions for hybrid and electric vehicles. Bolloré and Renault to jointly boost electric vehicle technology Date: September 12th Source: Renault Renault signed a Letter of Intent with Bolloré to jointly market car-sharing solutions and the evaluation for the development and production of a vehicle using a 20kWh Bolloré battery. Nissan prepares its second mass-production zero emission electric vehicle Date: September 7th Source: Nissan Nissan announced that it would start the mass-production of the e-nv200 compact van, which is powered by a lithium-ion battery composed of 48 compact modules. In addition, the company announced that it would donate 47 Nissan LEAF to roadside rest areas in all of Japan s 47 prefectures with the purpose to attempt solve daily problems of whom needed the most. In conjunction with the vehicles, Nissan will donate LEAF to Home power supply that can be used as back-up power source in emergency situations. BMW introduces two new vehicles Date: September 10th Source: BMW Group The BMW Group introduced the BMW i8, the first plug-in hybrid vehicle of the group, which is fitted with a 96 kw electric motor and a lithium-ion battery that allow the vehicle to reach in electric mode up to 35 kilometers and a maximum speed of up to 120 km/h. In addition, the company is introducing at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt the first all-electric mass-production s vehicle branded BMW i3 which is fitted with a 125 kw electric motor and a lithium-ion battery allowing the vehicle to reach up to 160 kilometers on one single charge. Argonne lab received US$ 4.5 million from the US DOE Date: September 12th Source: Argonne National Laboratory The Argonne National Laboratory announced that it has received a US$ 4.7 million fund from the US Department of Energy for three projects that aim to develop new vehicle technologies. According to the information, the project which seeks to develop nextgeneration of lithium-ion batteries for electric and plug-in hybrid batteries would receive US$ 2.5 million, the second project for new capacitors for electric vehicles would receive US$ 1.8 million meanwhile the last project that considers the study of a new type of electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles would receive US$ 0.36 million.

Nemaska Lithium updates Whabouchi Lithium project Date: September 4th Source: Nemaska Lithium Inc. In order to complete the feasibility study by Q1 2014, Nemaska Lithium had provided an update on its Whabouchi Lithium mine and Processing Plant, highlighting that currently is in the final stages of consultation and public hearings, the drilling program should be completed by October and the company is still analyzing financial options to commissioning the phase 1 of the project. Canada Lithium had received 5$ million fund from Tewoo-ERDC Source: Canada Lithium Corp. As a part of the off-take agreement with Tewoo-ERDC, Canada Lithium announced that it had received a $5 million pre-payment that would be used for working capital purpose. Orocobre updates the progress on Olaroz Lithium Project Source: Orocobre Limited Orocobre Limited had announced the commissioning of the first production wells and the filling of its first evaporation pond at its Olaroz Lithium project, in Argentina. A total of US$121 million had been spent in the project, and the construction for process plant buildings, soda ash warehouse and installation of deep well pumps, among others activities are currently in progress.
