2 Ladies and Gentlemen, Allow me to extend a warm welcome to you to the pre-press conference. You have already heard from Mr. Grundmann that a decisive part of Complete Mobility consists of the Vectron and the Rolling Stock platforms. The title of the Innotrans 2010 is "The future of Mobility" and this can only be achieved by networking the different transport systems as best as possible. The "Future of Mobility" is basically all about climate change, conserving resources and urbanization. It cannot be stated often enough: the future of mobility can only be ensured by constantly developing rolling stock on rails. Humans consume 25 percent more resources today than the Earth can sustainably supply. The message has spread around the globe, which is why there is a "gold-rush mentality" in some parts of the world concerning the expansion of the railway infrastructure and the related rolling stock. In the last 10 years, all transport systems have reduced their CO 2 emissions and that is just as well. We are therefore showing you at the world's biggest leading trade fair for railway technology in 2010 the innovations of "Green Mobility" in the case of the Vectron and the Siemens Rolling Stock platforms. 1. Velaro D As you know, the Velaro platform has been a great success in Spain, Russia, China as well as in Germany. Our customer DB AG calls the train ICE of the 407 series. From the start of next year, the Velaro D will be undergoing a comprehensive test and certification program. From the end of 2011, the Velaro D will be deployed by the Deutsche Bahn (German Railways) as an ICE of the latest generation, initially between Frankfurt and various cities in France and Belgium. The Velaro will then redefine the premium class among Europe's high-speed trains. Why? The Velaro E, for example, has a punctuality rate of 99%, while the share of the market between Madrid and Barcelona has since increased more than fourfold, from some 11 percent to almost 50 percent.

3 We aim to continue this success story. This is why we are working at top speed on the future market opportunities opening up for us in the USA or Portugal. We are also confident of our chances in China. Despite looking similar to the first-generation ICE 3, the Velaro D represents a considerable technical advance. The standards applied correspond to the latest versions compared with the ICE 3 which was based on the standards applicable in Another improvement is the traction system. Its design is based on state-ofthe-art IGBT technology, which makes it possible to infeed the power under 3kV DC directly into the DC link of the traction converter. This is a decisive improvement on the extensive connections of the current converters of the ICE3. You'll notice another obvious change in the enhanced aerodynamics. The increased height of the roof area of the intermediate cars which accommodate the pantographs and the high-voltage and climate control equipment allows optimum integration of the components. The result is a 5 to 8 percent reduction in the train's driving resistance due solely to these measures. Together with the additional modifications in the area of the bogies, there is an overall improvement in reducing air resistance by roughly 20 percent. The new generation is therefore more energysaving than the previous one. We are looking forward hopefully together with you to presenting the Velaro D at the Innotrans for the first time to the public as a finished product. 2. Vectron - the new locomotive generation The trade specialists will see four Vectrons for the first time at the Innotrans. But you will be able to ride on it today. The new locomotive for the European goods and passenger traffic services was not designed in response to a specific customer request, as is usually the case, but was based on market requirements. The operational and project experience gained from over 1,600 Eurosprinters and Eurorunners successfully in use in the market as well as feedback from customers provided the basis for achieving the very best economic solution. In other words, we focus on investment security, fungibility, optimum retrofit

4 and conversion capability and avoiding special solutions in the basic versions because we offer a wide range of options. In addition to multi-system locomotives, our portfolio also includes a pure DC and an AC solution which has not been offered by Siemens in the last few years. So we are also closing portfolio gaps thanks to the Vectron. The locomotives are equipped as standard for a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The Vectron can be upgraded to a high-speed version of 200 km/h without the need for any major conversion work by using a corresponding pre-fit package. It is not necessary to change the bogies. The different versions for pure AC, pure DC or the flexible multi-system use enable the train to be operated in four different voltage systems and different classes. A special feature of the Siemens vehicle concept is that the internal deformation zone, called the frontend, is connected to the carbody via a disconnectable link and can therefore be easily replaced in the event of damage. Three installation locations are provided from the outset for fitting train protection cabinets in the machine room. The train protection cabinets are completely modularized, allowing easy conversion or retrofit. You can find out more technical details from our colleagues from the locomotive department in Wildenrath. 3. Railcover service concept A fair amount has been said on this subject as well. I just want to add that visitors to the Innotrans will be able to test how the new service concept works with locomotives. We have set up an operating position for Railcover to carry out an online diagnostics test in real time. The newly established Rail Support Center monitors the linked-up systems via remote data transfer and coordinates the mobile service technicians and workshops in the event of a vehicle malfunction. An express logistics system ensures a smooth supply of spare parts. 4. Desiro ML- the modular vehicle platform for regional passenger services

5 At the Innotrans 2010 Siemens is showcasing another variation of the Desiro ML in the design for the Belgian State Railways, SNCB. Thanks to its greater train length of almost 80 meters, the vehicle has space for 280 seats. The vehicles will be supplied to the SNCB under an order for 305 three-unit electric railcars as from Based on a new concept featuring a diesel-electric drive unit, the Desiro ML DMU offers an innovative solution with a particularly low impact on the environment. Compared with traditional diesel-mechanical or diesel-electric drive systems, energy savings of up to 30 percent can be achieved. In addition, the diesel-electric drive system requires less maintenance. The Desiro ML is already a great success at home and abroad and more than 600 vehicles have been ordered or options placed under master agreements. In addition to the orders in Germany and Belgium, vehicles from the Desiro ML platform will soon be running in Austria, Russia and China. 5. Inspiro more than a metro In this last part I'd like to announce some news on the metro business. We won't be showing a new finished product at the Innotrans. We will be presenting the concept of the new metro platform. You may wonder why I say that, considering that Siemens has been building metros for 100 years. We have excellent references in the metro segment in Europe, Asia and North America. We have won awards for particularly "green solutions" such as with the Oslo or Vienna and Prague metros. We have implemented an automatic metro in mixed operations in Nuremberg, Germany. The metro market is supremely important for solving the traffic problems in the megacities of the future, both from the quantity and quality point of view. This is the reason why we have reconsidered the metro platform. The aim is to make it lighter, more energy-efficient and more economical zero emissions, zero energy and zero noise. The basic vehicle of the Inspiro Plattform is an approximately 117 m long metro train designed for 750V DC operation on a 1435 mm track gauge and consisting of 6 permanently coupled, individual cars (4 motor cars, 2 trailer cars) of lightweight

6 aluminum construction. Three to eight-car versions are available as an option with various motor sizes. The overall capacity, depending on the arrangement of the seats, is for up to 970 persons. Bogie and traction can be designed in the platform both in conventional technology (with a new bogie) and as a Syntegra version. This basic technical data will enable us to reduce manufacturing and engineering costs as well as maintenance and service costs in addition to shortening delivery times. The design of the platform is also new. At the Innotrans we will be presenting to you in a multi-medial showroom the concept and the new design which originates from one of the most renowned design agencies. We will be offering the new platform in Europe (Warsaw, Brussels, Budapest) and in the Middle East. Ladies and Gentlemen, Rolling Stock has been very successful in the last 18 months by concentrating on platforms and the new service concept. We will continue this policy in future with additional sales and marketing activities in mass transit.
