5 01. High-speed trains The Velaro high-speed train runs on the equivalent of 0.33 liters of gasoline per person per 100 kilometers at 100 percent passenger load. In addition, it uses environmentally friendly, easily biodegradable fuels and sustainably generated, pollutant-tested materials. This makes Velaro not only the world s fastest series production trainset, but also the most eco-friendly. Based on its improved aerodynamics alone, the new Velaro trains use 10% less energy than the first generation World s leading provider for green mobility 02. High-performance locomotives Vectron, the modern locomotive platform for transporting freight and passengers, is particularly impressive in terms of environmental compatibility: it reduces pollution and noise and is built from 98% recyclable materials and components. And its regenerative braking system saves up to 25% more energy, depending on the line topology. 03. Regional multiple-unit trains The Desiro ML EMU regional multiple-unit train uses the equivalent of only 0.2 liters of gasoline per person per 100 kilometers at 100 percent passenger load. Desiro ML diesel-electric train, in combination with active motor management and fast energy storage, reduces consumption by up to 40% compared to conventional diesel-powered vehicles. 04. Metro vehicles The components and materials of the Oslo Metro are 94.7% recyclable. And its consistent lightweight construction and regenerative braking system means it also uses 30% less energy than predecessor vehicles. This makes this metro not only very environmentally friendly, but the reduced weight also puts less of a load on the tracks, thus reducing operating and maintenance costs. 06. Inspiro Metro Platform The lightweight structure, the new demand-controlled air conditioning and the weight-optimised chassis reduce energy consumption. The optional driver assistance system and the possibility of driverless operation guarantee the highest level of energy efficiency. The Syntegra system can reduce energy consumption by as much as 30% and lowering maintenance costs by up to 15%. Besides, 95% materials are recyclable. 05. The new generation 100% Low-floor Tram system The latest generation of traction converters and a traction control system with an efficiency rate of over 98% can contribute to a very efficient use of energy. The optional on-board energy storage units can result in a reduction in energy consumption of up to 30%. Even after reaching the end of their service, the trams offer further energy savings and environmental advantages: over 90% of the materials used can be recycled. 07. APM system Automated People Mover (Airval and Cityval) can reclaim the energy in braking process, and the recovered energy can be stored for subsequent accelerations. In addition, the trains feature a Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) driverless system, which optimizes train movement and can reduce energy consumption by up to 15%
