21 EV Infrastructure charging business models What makes for the healthiest public infrastructure? Healthy infrastructure Unhealthy Infrastructure Hardware Deployment choice Business model User Experience Data Services Charging stations built with the highest quality hardware, safety and serviceability in mind for highest uptime and lowest cost of ownership. Interoperable solution with interchangeable choice of hardware, operator and services for most owner choice with future-proof access to all technology Charging technology mix that is right-sized for the driver; such as fast charging along corridors and slow AC charging at workplaces. Charging networks deployed with business model vision, and operational health as part of overall plan. Centralized, integrated ownership/operation and driver interaction and payment experience. (ex. 50 chargers with common owner/operator model) Harmonized customer service point of contact for driver to interact with charging station Complete access to data for insights into usage, telematics, commercial and other charging data. Network operators with proactive service plans that work cooperatively with technology providers, owners and site hosts. Cheapest hardware available, usually thinner materials that are not built for all climates and environments; non-redundant architectures, high maintenance and lower uptime. Non-interoperable solution where owners and sites have no choice in hardware, payment models, or services. Charging technology that doesn t fit the driver use case, such as slow AC at a grocery store or fast chargers for overnight hotel guests. Charging stations deployed with hardware and installation as only cost consideration; viewed as just a project and not a business. Fragmented ownership and/or operational model; (ex. 50 different owners, 50 different consumer experiences with differing cost/payment models; and 50 different owner management contacts Each site has a different and ever-changing point of contact for drivers Limited access to data; closed/proprietary model for data ownership. Reactive network operators with no plan nor process for preventive services, maintenance and parts planning; rely solely on warranties. November 30, 2017 Slide 31
