4 technical specification SL20F SL22F venetian and pleated System F F SL20F VENETIAN SL22F / PLEATED BLIND The ScreenLine SL20F or SL22F venetian blind and the SL20F pleated or SL22F pleated blind with motor located inside the head rail for incorporation within a double-glazed unit is manufactured in accordance with high technical specification and production standards. Their autonomous power supply enables them to be fitted into window frames without external electrical wires. Model SL20F or SL22F has a two-speed operation (slow during tilting, thus allowing a more precise slat orientation, and faster for raising / lowering). The electronics managing the blind functioning is located in the external battery module. The motor is housed in a plastic slide in order to reduce any vibration and significantly decrease the noise produced by the system. The slide is equipped with a specially designed corner key with integrated contacts, which allows airtight electrical connection between battery module and internal motor, thus maintaining the double glazing unit hermetic seal. The motor is connected to the drive mechanism and the power is transmitted via the corner key: this design feature allows the position of the first side hole in the slat to be closer to the edge, thus guaranteeing better stability of the blind. 4 N.B. Some of the images included in this technical catalogue are representative of venetian blinds but are also valid for the pleated version.

5 1. technical features A mechanical end-stop incorporated within the head rail ensures a safety stop of the blind at the lowest position. The design of the cord-winding system results in greater precision of the parallel function of the blind bottom rail. The interweaved structure of cord and ladder tape keeps them in the same guided position, thus improving slat parallelism and increasing shading by reduction of the light transfer through the slat holes (venetian models). 16 assembly instructions 4. kit composition ScreenLine kit components On receipt of the goods, check the integrity of the package and ascertain that components are as detailed on the Purchase Order. The kit includes: (SL20F or SL22F systems) venetian blind with 12.5 mm slats equipped with corner keys, assembled to the upper spacer bar; (SL20F pleated or SL22F pleated systems) pleated blind with corner keys assembled to the upper spacer bar L -shaped extruded spacer bars (SL20F or SL20F pleated) or C -shaped extruded spacer bar with projection (SL22F or SL22F pleated) bottom U -shaped extruded spacer bar 2 plastic corner keys 2 screws for 2.5x4 mm connection pins 2 2.9x16 mm screws to secure the battery module support onto the window frame 1 grey-white cable for motor connection 1 battery module support equipped with cables. Assembly of the integral blind unit Spacer bars preparation Fill the spacer bars with the necessary amount of molecular sieve. It is recommended that the plastic corner keys be inserted into the side spacer bars, which are then filled with molecular sieve, and the open ends plugged with wool or butyl to avoid loss of any sieve during further operations. Assemble the spacer bars with the bottom spacer bar. Using the appropriate equipment, extrude the primary butyl seal on the top spacer bar connected to the blind head rail: during this operation, it is suggested great care be taken with the integral blind, in order to avoid any dirt or damage to the slats or to the fabric. Then apply the primary butyl seal to the other three spacers as well. Assemble all the spacer bars to form the complete spacer frame. Make sure that the L-profile spacer projection (SL20F or SL20F pleated systems) faces the soft coated glass where applicable. Ensure continuity of the butyl seal - particularly at the corner keys. spacer bars - glass assembly 16

17 assembly instructions Line assembly At the washer output, the glass must be placed on its base onto the conveying rollers of the assembly equipment. Position the assembled kit on the first glass, ensuring that the head rail is on the top. During this operation, it is recommended great care be taken with the integral blind, in order to avoid any dirt on the slats or on the fabric or marks on the internal side of the spacer bars. Position the spacer frame on the glass, ensuring the spacer bars are equi-distant from the glass edge. Press to obtain a high degree of adhesion. Proceed with the assembly of the second glass and pass through the on-line pressing system. Gas filling Using the appropriate equipment and in accordance with the standard procedure replace the internal air with argon. Testing After the press operation but prior to applying the final sealing, test the blind function by using the battery module provided, ensuring that the double-glazed unit is positioned vertically with the blind head rail at the top. Make sure that the bottom rail reaches the lower spacer bar. The use of a power supply or control electrical devices other than the ones provided will invalidate the warranty. At the end of the test, raise the blind until it is completely stacked and insert the silicon tubes to protect the electric contacts located on the corner key. blind assembly on the spacer bars primary sealing application 17

18 assembly instructions Secondary sealing Apply the final seal in accordance with EN regulations. The secondary sealant should be applied ensuring that the area in the corners and around the silicone tubes is completely filled by the secondary sealant. The silicon tubes should remain straight and not damaged. Where the final seal is applied horizontally, check parallelism of the glass, so as to avoid any glass deflection that might lead to the blind jamming (in which case equalisation may be necessary). After the polymerisation of the secondary sealing, the protective silicon tubes can be removed by pulling them off horizontally. G glass assembly double-glazed unit secondary sealing 18

19 assembly instructions Notes 1. Position the double glazed unit on the stillage: the unit must be transported with the head rail at the top; where this is not possible, lie the unit on its longer side with the blind completely raised. 2. During glazing ensure the integrated unit is perfectly vertical in the frame in order to avoid any friction between bottom rail and spacer bars, which would jeopardise the correct operation of the blind. Transport and storage For transport and storage procedures please check the recommendations contained in the relevant part of the ScreenLine Technical Catalogue. 20 SL20F SL22F battery module Battery module (SL1082 standard / SL1083 with integrated radio receiver) It is designed to power the motor of the ScreenLine kit in selfsufficient way. It is associated with a special support, which can be applied either to the glass or to the window frame. Such support, whose size is only 33x35x9 (height) mm, contains the output cables with final polarised connectors allowing connection to the motor and to the solar panel (optional). Connection between battery module and its support is by magnet and the electrical connection is further guaranteed by the presence of gold-plated contacts. The battery module is produced with low-power electronics (3V) and complete electronic control; for the reason, it also incorporates control of the battery status, with under voltage protection. The module houses the function push buttons and a signalling LED. The solar panel provides continuous power supply to the batteries, which makes the unit completely self-sufficient compared to a standard device. If the solar panel is not utilized, when the LED starts blinking, the battery module needs to be recharged. This can be easily achieved by disengaging it from its support and locking it onto the special battery charger. Note The battery module is equipped with a battery-insulating tab, to be removed upon installation. When the battery module with the tab still attached is laid onto the to the support, the LED turns on/blinks, meaning that the solar panel is correctly connected and sufficiently lit (see Correct installation check paragraph on page 25). When batteries need to be replaced, rechargeable Ni-MH 1.2V Type AA (2500 mah minimum) must be used. To replace the batteries, open the two parts of the plastic casing by unscrewing the screw located in the support housing. Remove the exhausted batteries and replace them with charged ones, following the polarity indicated on the support. Close again the casing. 21 Solar panel (SL1084) The purpose of the solar panel is recharging the battery module without using the battery charger or replacing the batteries. The technology used (amorphous silicon) and the cell supporting glass ensure good performance even without direct radiation. Performance and output are constant over the years when the product is used and covered by its warranty. The external case, made of UV-ray resistant plastic, cannot be damaged by atmospheric agents and guarantees at the same time the air/water-tightness of the photovoltaic cell. It is designed for external glass (by means of 3M s VHB double-sided adhesive tape) or window frame / wall (through suitable screws) application. It is equipped with an output cable with polarised connector for quick and safe connection with the battery module. SL20F SL22F solar panel Technical features Dimensions 200x55x8 (height) mm Material Amorphous silicon Cell support Glass sealed with silicon Protection degree IP55 Battery charger with support (SL1081) The battery charger is used when the solar panel is not included in the supply. It consists of a magnetic locking contact support for the battery module and of an AC/DC adapter which is equipped with interchangeable plugs allowing its use in most countries without any adapter. The support is identical to the battery module support, including the magnetic locking system, which is designed to make the module recharging operations quicker and more intuitive. 22 SL20F SL22F remote control Remote control (SL1965) The remote control SL1965 is a 99-channel radio transmitter, which can control up to 99 battery modules. It contains a display showing the channel number. It also features two control (raise and lower) and programming push-buttons, marked by arrows, also placed vertically and two push buttons for channel search, marked by and placed horizontally. In this model, the central push button, marked by, is not used. The remote control is equipped with two battery safety tabs, which must be removed when the system is used for the first time. SL20F SL22F remote control activation Remote control activation In order to activate the remote control, remove the safety tabs off the batteries, as shown in the picture. Battery substitution In order to replace the remote control batteries, remove the 4 screws located on the back and open the rear cover; remove the exhausted batteries and introduce two new CR2032 3V Lithium batteries. Close again the cover by means of the screws. 23 5. assembling Battery module and solar panel application Before fitting the double glazing unit into the window frame, it is necessary to apply the battery module support and the solar panel (if any), making sure that the wires are not strained or sheared. If the window frame has no gaskets we recommend a bevel in the application area of the wires. Battery module Application on glass Clean and dry accurately the area designated for the control device from traces of silicon, dirt or dust; place the battery module support in a side part of the double glazing unit, next to the edge, at a distance such that the glazing bead can be easily closed and, at the same time, the module can smoothly be attached to its support. Stick the support to the glass via the adhesive tape after positioning the 4 wires through the relevant slot, in the direction of the nearest glass sight-line. The support output wire must be neatly folded in order to avoid its coming out from the surface of the adhesive tape. Once the support has been vigorously applied on the glass, allow at least one day for the correct polymerisation of the adhesive tape prior to applying the battery module. Application on window frame Make a 10-mm hole in the area where the support is to be applied to allow the introduction of the wires with connectors. Subsequently, after inserting the wires, secure the support to the window frame, making use of the double-sided adhesive tape provided. In case of unstable hold, it is possible to apply the support by means of the screws provided. For this operation, open the support (by unscrewing the connection screw), secure the rear part of the support to the frame by means of the screws ISO 7049 provided (N.B.: do not tighten the screws too much in order not to damage the support) and close again the cover of the support by means of the above screw. Solar panel Application on glass Stick (making use of the double-sided adhesive tape provided) the panel to the top part of the double glazing unit, next to the edge, at a distance such that it does not conflict with the window frame during the double glazing unit assembling operations, with the wires coming out from the top. Insert the wires into the top part of the double glazing unit. Application on window frame or wall Apply the panel to the selected area, next to the edge of the window frame, making use of the double-sided adhesive tape provided or via two screws. Insert the wires into the top part of the double glazing unit. 23

24 assembling grey white Power wire application Connect the white-grey wire to the motor connectors (located in the corner of double glazing unit) by means of the special ring connectors and the M2x5 mm screws provided. The white wire must be connected on the right-hand side (as viewed on the edge). It is recommended that the screws be properly tightened in order to avoid unintentional loosening that might result in the interruption of the current transmission. Electrical connections The connection and power wires, supplied with the blind kit and with the external modules, are equipped with polarised terminal connectors, so that connections are easier and do not require an intervention by skilled operators, and allow use of 3 V DC power supply exclusively. Connect the battery module support wires to the corresponding wires coming from the motor (white-grey wire) and from the solar panel (red-yellow wire) with the help of polarised terminal connectors of same colour. 24

25 assembling Correct installation check Check the correct installation by placing the battery module - with the battery-insulating tab still attached - onto the corresponding support: if the LED on the battery module turns on/blinks, the solar panel is properly connected and sufficiently lit. Test the blind operation by means of the up and down push buttons, as described in the next paragraph Function of the blind, making sure that the battery module has been charged for at least 12 hours with the battery-insulating tab removed. Double-glazing unit - window frame assembly Before fitting the double glazing unit into the window frame, gather the excess wires between glass and frame, preventing them from being strained or sheared. Should the window frame not have gaskets, bevel the application area of the wires to protect them. G G 25

26 operation 6. Function of the blind The system SL20F, SL22F, SL20F pleated or SL22F pleated must be connected to the special battery module, which provides the necessary power supply and adequate motor protection. The electronic card, contained inside the battery module, controls the various functions, including those managing the stop position corresponding to the end stop of the top and bottom positions. A low-consumption radio receiver, contained inside the battery module, makes the system a wireless device. The dedicated software features double operating speed in order to optimise the tilting function of the slats (venetian models). The blind function (Up / Down) is activated by switching the power supply (inversion), via the push buttons located on the battery module or by means of the remote control push buttons, both of them marked by arrows. It is not possible to power the blind motor using external power supply units, batteries or push buttons other than those designed for this system, which would invalidate the warranty. To tilt the slats of the blind, keep pressing the or push button until the desired slat inclination is achieved. The slow speed at the start of the process allows accurate slat inclination. To raise/lower the blind, keep the or push button pressed throughout the tilting process and release it when high speed is activated. This procedure increases the lifespan of the system, since it restricts the possibility of unwanted interventions. To stop the movement of the blind, just press and release immediately either the push button. or Setting of the blind end stops The setting of the blind end stops is carried out in the Company during the testing process. The motor has a self-learning process: the blind, during the raise and lower operation is able to recognise its extreme positions and to memorise them. Therefore, the blind will always move within such limit positions. When the motor experiences a sudden increase in energy absorption as a possible result of glass deflection, the blind will stop before reaching its end stop position. When this occurs and the cause of the blind stop is resolved, the original end stop will be automatically reset and the blind will function normally. Remote control programming The remote control can control up to 99 different channels, which can be read on its display. Therefore, it can move up to 99 blinds via the battery modules. The battery module must be programmed upon installation in order to be associated to signals coming from the remote control. It is also possible to associate a battery module to several channels, so as to make up different groups of blinds. Channel 00 is the master channel, as it can operate all the battery modules present, regardless of the channels stored. Programming is carried out by following a procedure for automatic recognition of the remote controls used (self-learning), which is activated through the central push button of the battery module. 26 ScreenLine

27 operation Channel storage Show the desired channel on the remote control display by pressing push-buttons or Press the central push-button of the battery module until the corresponding LED turns on Release the push-button Press simultaneously the raise and lower keys of the remote control Wait until the LED flashes slowly, which confirms the channel storage. Channel cancellation Show the channel to be cancelled on the remote control display by pressing push-buttons or Keep the central push-button of the battery module pressed until the LED turns on and starts flashing quickly Release the push-button Press simultaneously the raise and lower keys of the remote control Wait until the LED flashes slowly, which confirms the channel cancellation. Cancellation of all channels Keep the central push-button of the battery module pressed until the LED starts flashing quickly, then more slowly Release the push-button When the LED stops flashing, all the channels previously stored are cancelled. N.B. Battery modules without radio received do not allow channel storage or cancellation, even though their LED turns on. If no input is given, the receiver will automatically quit the storage or cancellation function after about 20 seconds. Tilt only mode (SL20F or SL22F systems) System SL20F or SL22F for venetian blinds can also be set with a slat tilt only mode by implementing the following procedure: press the up and down push buttons of the battery module at the same time for at least 10 seconds (activation is confirmed by a short movement of the blind). To disable the tilt-only function, perform the same procedure. ScreenLine 27

The credit collection charges faced by the Company - both during the course of court proceedings and out of Court proceedings - including the fees charged by the Italian Lawyers, set by the Ordine degli Avvocati (Association of Italian Lawyers), will be charged entirely to the Purchaser. The Purchaser will not be entitled to withhold or compensate any payment by an alleged credit towards the Company. 8. SITE OF DELIVERY OF THE PRODUCTS The site of delivery of the Products is the factory of the company, based in Italy at Codogno (LO), Via Fusari, 19 ( Factory ). 9. PRODUCTS DELIVERY TERMS Whereas the delivery of the Products is subordinate to the availability of the same at the Factory, the Company will do everything in its capacity to deliver the Products within the delivery terms agreed in the Order or, if different, in the Order Confirmation. Such terms, however, are approximate and not imperative. In case of delay, therefore, the Company will not be liable for breach of contract. Should a given delivery term have been agreed, the Purchaser will have to allow a proper extension - in any case not less than 30 (thirty) days - in order for the Company to fulfil its obligations. Only in case the agreed extension timeframe should be exceeded, will the Company be liable for breach of contract. Unless agreed otherwise in writing, the Company is entitled to carry out the delivery of the Products in instalments. 30

31 VENETIAN / PLEATED BLIND SL20F SL22F 10. FORCE MAJEURE Should the Company be faced with the impossibility to carry out the delivery within the agreed terms, due to circumstances beyond its control such as, by way of illustration and not exhaustive: war, governmental restrictions, strikes or lockouts, work force demonstrations or other general or local events; fire, floods, explosions, natural catastrophes, or any other acts of God owing to which the Products have been damaged and/or destroyed or any event which, be that as it may, may cause problems to the Company in terms of manufacturing, delivery or supply of the Products, the Company, without obligation to provide explanations to the Purchaser, will be entitled to cancel all and/or part of the Order, while doing everything in its capacity to inform the Purchaser as soon as possible. It remains that, in these cases, the Purchaser will not be entitled to require any reimbursement from the Company as compensation for the damage, if any, suffered by the Purchaser and/or by third parties owing to the cancellation of the Order by the Company. 11. ORDER VARIATIONS, CHANGES AND CANCELLATIONS The Order of the Products is irrevocably confirmed by the Purchaser. Barring what provided for by the art. 4 aforementioned, any changes or cancellations of the Order from the Purchaser and expressly authorized by the Company, will have to be communicated in writing to the latter by registered letter within, and at the latest, 10 (ten) days after the date of issuing of the Order. 12. NON COLLECTION OF THE PRODUCTS FROM THE PURCHASER Should the Purchaser not collect the purchased Products delivered to destination, the Company will be entitled, at its own discretion, to: (I) demand the settlement of the payment and leave the Products at the Purchaser s disposal; (II) proceed to the sale of the Products to third parties, without amendments or any other sort of measures having to be taken by the Legal Authorities. It remains that any stoppage dues arising from the non collection of the goods at the forwarding company, handling and freight charges applying to the Products are charged to the Purchaser. Should the Purchaser have difficulty in accepting the delivery for a period of time longer than 14 (fourteen) days, the Company will be entitled to back out of the contract. In any case, it is agreed that the Company is fully entitled to compensation for the damage suffered. 13. PRODUCTS WARRANTY AND COMPLAINTS All the Products supplied by the Company are guaranteed against production faults provided they are handled in compliance with correct procedures. The Purchaser is obliged to inspect the goods delivered upon receipt of the same. Complaints, if any, about Product faults are to be communicated to the Company by means of registered letter - or anyway in writing - : (I) in case of manifest faults, within and not later than 5 (five) days after receipt of the Products; (II) in case of hidden faults, within and not later than 8 (eight) days after ascertaining the fault and, however, not later than 30 (thirty) days after delivery of the Products. The above being stated, no complaint can be made unless judicially exerted by way of action or plea, within 3 (three) months after receipt of the single batches of Products. However complaints are to be provided with all the evidence necessary to their documentation. Inadequate information in this regard might cause delays to the Company to settle the complaint. It is agreed that, should this be the case, the Company will not be liable for such delays. Complaints regarding Products having been cut, used and/or processed after the delivery, will be rejected, except when faults other than production faults could not be detected before the processing of the goods. Complaints regarding the processing expenses of the delivered goods will be rejected. Differences of the Products from what specified in the Order or, if different, in the Order Confirmation with reference to quality, quantity, width, colours, finishes, size and the like, which stand for variations commonly accepted in the commercial practice or technically inevitable, will not be considered valid reasons for lodging complaints. The Purchaser is not entitled to give back the Products or refuse the delivery unless through written authorization of the Company. Being agreed that, in no way, will the complaints authorize the Purchaser to suspend or delay the payment of the invoices relative to the Products. Should the grounds of the complaint be conventionally or legally acknowledged and should it not be settled with the Company granting a discount on the purchase price of the Products, the Purchaser will be entitled to ask the Company to be reimbursed exclusively the price of all the defective Products as per the relative invoice. The Company will be entitled to choose, at its own discretion and upon return of the defective Products, whether (I) to replace the Products with other flawless Products or (II) to reimburse to the Purchaser the price paid by the latter for the defective Products. Being agreed, in any case, that the Purchaser will waive any claim of reimbursement for any direct or consequential damage that might arise. The Purchaser will further have to protect the Company against any possible complaint from third parties regarding goods or services supplied by the Company. 14. RETURNED GOODS In no way will the Purchaser be entitled to return the Products purchased and duly delivered by the Company, without written authorization of the Company. Should such authorization be granted, the Purchaser, however, will have to specify the goods return authorization number provided by the Company in the forwarding note, upon express request of the Purchaser. The Products returned will have to be intact and in perfect conditions. Should the Products turn out damaged, the Company reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to: (I) reject the return of the Products; or (II) to charge the Purchaser with the cost of the Products and/or of all the steps required to their fixing. Forwarding of the returned goods will have to be free port at the Factory. 15. GOVERNING LAW AND PLACE OF JURISDICTION All the contracts executed by the Company will be governed by the laws in force in Italy except for the Vienna Convention on International Trade. For all disputes that should arise with regard to the contracts executed by the Company, in the first instance the Court of Lodi, Italy, will be the sole place of jurisdiction, being agreed that the Company is entitled to take legal measures against the Purchaser before the competent Court of the place of residence of the Purchaser or before any other competent Court.
