3 Studied Case Study performed for 2024HS case Two Colstrip units retired, with ATR model adopting the same setting just for unit 3 & 4 (provided by NWE) No significant impact for system instability found by TPL study related to the Colstrip retirements May need to further evaluate BPA s contingencies May need to check other cases such as light load case where Colstrip retired There could be system configuration changes and transfer level changes require new study case assumption 3

7 Review of CG MOD 33 Activities Selection of August 8 th event (3AM) in 08/17 planning meeting Requested by CG, WECC created the mapping case in Nov. 30 CG developed WSM/Planning case mapping tool and use it for Area 40 mapping. 2/7/18, 1 st MOD 33 WG meeting, discussed preliminary MW/Mvar comparison results 4/12/18, 2 nd MOD 33 WG meeting, finished MW comparison, started case review focused on Mvar/Voltage mapping 6/7/18, Completed power flow validation, start case review on dynamics validation 8/16/18, Finished CG members dynamics validation, PAC joined, worked with PAC for data review and case updates 7

8 Activities since August 16 Provided latest cases to PacifiCorp, shared CG s MOD 33 process, criteria, methodology and tools PAC performed power flow validation data review CG and PAC went through all changes, updated the power flow and dynamics validation cases and generate new results. Identify and fix some model errors Identify some transmission topology discrepancy in planning case on 115kV Further correct some voltage issues where comparison outside the acceptable range All power flow results (including PGE) for area 40 stays acceptable Latest change has little impact to dynamics comparison results BPA s PMU data, latest cases, validation results and change file (aux) has been provided to PAC 8

9 PAC s involvement PowerWorld is currently adopted for MOD 33 validation software PAC indicated to use CG s MOD 33 report template (to be developed) for its compliance report PAC requested to formally participate in CG s MOD 33 joint efforts in the future PAC will provide PMU data (~100) for CG s MOD 33 study PAC will fully participate the next MOD 33 study event selection decision/discussion and following study PAC will attend future CG planning meeting related to MOD 33 study PAC as non-member would like to share the cost 9

10 Next Step: Report Development CG to develop a report template for MOD 33 study A report template for NERC MOD33 Provide results for each utility to use in their report Latest Power Flow, Dynamics, and WSM case has been posted All PMU/DFR/PI/SCADA comparison for dynamics validation has been posted (in word format) In report template, utility to insert their own system validation results If needed, CG can provide the latest line flow and voltage comparison results Or each utility can generate the latest power flow comparison using the latest cases and the comparison table earlier Each utility may choose the related dynamics comparison for including in their report 10

12 MOD 33 Work Plans 2018/2 1 st MOD 33 work group meeting, focus on data checking, pass software tools to member to facilitate their data checking After it, Both CG and member will do 2 nd round MW flow review 2018/4 2nd MOD 33 work group, resolve power flow discrepancy caused between utilities, kick off the Mvar/voltage mapping process After it, Both CG and member will do Mvar/Voltage review 2018/6 Finalize Mvar/voltage mapping, kick off Dynamic mapping process After it, CG prepare the dynamic base case, members to collect the PMU/DFR data 2018/8 Finalize CG members dynamics mapping results and mitigate issues After it, CG helps PAC for their MOD33 study 2018/10 Finalize results with PAC s study After it, CG start to develop the draft report template 2018/12 1 st draft report template discussion After it, CG revise the draft report template 2019/02 Finalize the study report template (revision to process document?)
