8 The Surf and Turf project How we came together Eday s turbine is c.600m from EMEC Opportunity to combine Wind and Tide to supply the electrolyser EMEC need a clear practical demonstration of hydrogen use Council need to decarbonise their current and future ferry fleet Wish to lead the way for training for Marine H 2 handling Initially looked at auxiliary power and burning whilst underway Difficulties in certification & approval in timescale

Put in place a self sustaining credible local H 2 supply chain/use A world first, integrating curtailed wind & tide for H 2 production Real relief from curtailment and extra funds for the community Strengthen EMEC s lead role in Eday, Scotland and worldwide Reduce local authority CO 2 emissions immediately Create a platform for increased local H 2 use and OIC investment A unique MCA backed UK facility for maritime H 2 training.

13 What will you see? Two/three lorries a week on the Eday ferries A Fuel Cell container located on the Kirkwall Harbour Pier A mobile storage trailer also parked in the compound Kirkwall Harbour Proposals

14 Where are we so far? Design development. Eday integration, harbour installation Completing permitting. Planning, SEPA, and DG regulation. Procured & manufacturing well underway for the major items. Finalising marine transport requirements with OIC and MCA Written the documents to allow H 2 familiarisation & training Aiming to get underway this autumn/winter.

18 The Plan To include and expand upon existing H 2 infrastructure in Orkney (EMEC 0.5MW electrolyser, and CES s 3x tube trailers and 75kW fuel cell powering Kirkwall harbour) To add: 1MW electrolyser on Shapinsay H 2 heating for council buildings 2x tube trailers H 2 refuelling station + 10 fuel cell vehicles in Kirkwall EC-funded & operational for 4 years (post-demo commercial operation via OHT) BIG HIT
