1 The MTC Clean and Superclean burners were developed to provide the Well testing market with a compact, lightweight and practical clean up and separated oil burning solution with a complete combustion system that features : Reduced smoke No fall-out Reduced heat radiation The design is primarily based on dividing the fluid flow by using four independent burning heads which allows the division of the flame into four separate smaller flames and therefore increases the amount of air available for combustion which is provided by the injection of compressed air into the mixing chamber of each head and combined with ambient air on exit from the head. Secondly it has a very efficient two-stage atomization device on each of the four heads consisting of: A mixing chamber where the crude oil and compressed air are combined to produce an atomized fluid. A static mixer section which produces a fine spray from the already atomized fluid to give the best conditions for complete combustion on exit to atmosphere. The MTC Superclean was specifically developed for the disposal of oil-based muds and heavy oils. This development was achieved by the addition of two lower capacity burning heads installed below the four primary burning heads which are used as a diesel or gas blanket to complete the combustion process of the fluids from the primary heads if required to achieve a clean burn. Although the Superclean burner is not necessary for burning a normal crude oil as the standard Clean burner will provide excellent results, it is however recommended that when operating in very sensitive areas or when it is an exploratory well with uncertain fluid characteristics to take the safest option and select the MTC Superclean Burner. 01

2 The extensive experience that MTC has in the burning of Well test clean up and separated oils highlights the below factors that have to be taken into consideration in the disposal of these fluids using the MTC Clean and Superclean burners. The competency of the operational personnel is critical to an efficient burning operation. The maximum atomization air requirement is 600 Scfm which can be satisfied by one compressor unit. The water injection rate requirement is critical to efficient combustion. General rule of thumb for estimating maximum requirement is 1.2 times the oil flow rate. The addition of a controlled diesel injection rate into the oil line upstream of the burner head will improve burning efficiency. The heating of the clean up or separated oil prior to burning will improve burning efficiency. The addition of Steam injection into the flame will improve burning efficiency. Note that smokeless burning may produce more fall out than a burn with limited smoke. Onshore Burner Heads Burner Boom King Post 02
