Little chance for clogging No external struts or supports to interfere with spray pattern Nozzle design provides for vortex mixing, primary impingement, fluid distortion and external impact for fine atomization and relatively high nozzle efficiency Spray angle can be adjusted through interchangeable nozzle cap assemblies. This feature permits much wider spray patterns than are possible with most types of two fluid atomizers Air flow (SCFM) and power requirements are relatively low, permitting specification of smaller compressors Good atomization over wide turn-down ratios Droplet size is controlled by minor changes in Spray characteristics: Air is introduced tangentially into the nozzle chamber in low region of the swirling liquid, creating extreme turbulence and primary atomization. As liquid leaves the orifice, it impinges against the deflector ring which serves a dual purpose; close control of spray angle and breakup of the spray into even finer droplets (secondary atomization). 5 Swirl-Air Nozzle Assembly Swirl-Air Nozzle Adapter Assembly Typical installation 1. Install nozzle as shown in schematic drawing. Make certain both gauges are located as close to nozzle as practical. Allow for losses between gauges and nozzle when establishing settings. Shutoff valves are included for convenience, allowing nozzle removal without shutting down system. 2. Always start flow first, then liquid flow. On shutdown, stop liquid flow first, then flow. Adjust and liquid s simultaneously; each affects the other. Check liquid flow rate after system reaches equilibrium. 3. In-line version: the adapter shown may be purchased from Delavan. It is not a part of the nozzle. 4. In-line version: concentric piping can be used between adapter and nozzle, making it possible to position the adapter in an ambient temperature area and the nozzle within the wall of high temperature chamber. Contact Delavan for installation drawing SK6072. Note: For gas cooling applications, it's recommended that flow continue through nozzles after fluid flow is stopped.
6 Droplet size data The generation of small droplets by swirl- nozzles is due to the efficient utilization of pneumatic energy. Although the spectrum of droplet diameters typically covers a rather wide range, the Sauter mean diameter is commonly used to compare and select nozzles for specific industrial processes such as evaporative cooling and spray drying. The Swirl-Air graphs are from data based on Delavan laboratory measurements conducted with these specific atomizing devices using specific instruments and experimental procedures under certain environmental conditions which were prevalent at the time of testing. Therefore, it should not be inferred that the results are equivalent to those for actual operating conditions in specific agricultural, commercial or military applications. Accordingly.
