This enclosure can be considered to have passed as NEMA 250 allows for corrosion where protection is considered impractical, such as machined and mating surfaces. 5 3.0 TEST REQUESTED Subject the test unit to a 4X Corrosion Resistance Test in accordance with NEMA 250, Section 5.10, which references ASTM B117. A 200-hour test shall be conducted as follows: ASTM B117 states the following conditions shall be met during the exposure period: 1. The salt solution shall be 5 parts, by weight, of sodium chloride dissolved in 95 parts distilled or de-ionized water. 2. The temperature in the exposure zone shall be between 92 F and 97 F. 3. The salt solution shall be atomized into the chamber at a rate that results in a salt fog fallout rate between 1.0 and 2.0 milliliters per hour per 80 square centimeters of horizontal collection area. 4. The collected fallout shall have a ph value between 6.5 and 7.2. Periodic checks shall be made throughout the exposure to assure no deviations from these parameters. 4.0 INSTRUMENTATION, PROCEDURE AND RESULTS 4.1 Instrumentation All instrumentation is calibrated regularly by instruments directly traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and in accordance with MIL-I-45208A, ANSI/NCSL Z and ISO/IEC 17025:1999. Q Fog / CCT1100 1/20/2003 7/20/2003 Temperature: Ambient to +160 F; Humidity: Ambient to 100%RH 4.2 Procedure The test unit was subjected to a 200-hour Salt Fog Test in accordance with Section 3.0 above. Checks made throughout the exposure period revealed no deviations from the ranges specified in Section 3.0. The test unit was placed in the salt fog chamber maintained at 95 F, and a 5% salt solution was then atomized into the chamber in a manner that achieved an hourly fallout rate between 1.0 and 2.0 ml per 80 cm 2 of horizontal collection area. These conditions were maintained for a period of 200 hours. Following completion of the exposure, the samples were lightly rinsed with deionized water at a temperature of less than 100 F and allowed to dry at lab ambient conditions. A post-test visual examination was then performed. 4.3 Results Upon completion of the test some corrosion was noted coming from the bolts holding the enclosure closed, but no other corrosion was found. This enclosure can be considered to have passed as NEMA 250 allows for corrosion where protection is considered impractical, such as machined and mating surfaces.
