1 MAN Diesel & Turbo Market Update Note 15 March 2013 G95ME-C9.2 and S90ME-C10.2 As a consequence of the market development towards further optimisation of the propulsion efficiency of large modern container ships, we are considering two additions to our already very competitive engine programme. G95ME-C9.2 and S90ME-C10.2. As can be seen in the diagram below, different alternatives for different layouts in respect to design speed can be achieved by these two alternative engine types. 2 MAN Diesel & Turbo The main figures for the two engine types are as follows: SFOC L1-L3 g/kwh SFO L2-L4 g/kwh V pist m/s S mm B mm S/B mep L1 bar Pcyl L1 kw G95ME-C , , S90ME-C , , rpm L1 rpm L3 S90ME-C10.2 is nearly similar to the well-known S90ME-C9.2, i.e. all outline dimensions are the same for 9.2 and 10.2, including footprints. The design differences are related to the increase in the mean effective pressure leading to modifications of the crankshaft journal bearing design and web thickness, including an adaptive modification on the connecting rod. Minor differences in the size and number of for instance turbochargers and hydraulic pumps for the Hydraulic Power Supply (HPS) follow the normal power/rpm output rules. Please find attached two PowerPoints showing the design modifications necessary for the S90ME-C10.2 as well as the initial design of the G95ME-C9.2. As can also be seen in the diagram, the S90ME-C9.2 can be made available from rpm, i.e. the layout diagram of the S90ME-C9.2 can be extended from the current L3-L4 speed of 76 rpm down to 72 rpm if needed for projects. This extension of the layout diagram will require no change to the S90ME-C9.2 basic engine design. We can inform customers considering these two engines, that the drawing delivery time for the S90ME-C10.2 is approx. 2-4 months after a firm order has been placed and approx months for the G95ME-C9.2 after a firm order has been placed. 9 G95ME-C9.2 Engine room crane Engine Type Crane capacity in tons selected in accordance with DIN and JIS standard capacities Normal crane MAN B&W Double-Jib Crane Normal Crane Height to crane hook in mm for: Normal lifting procedure H1 Minimum height from centre line crankshaft to centre line crane hook G95ME-C x ,100 The lifting tools for the engine are designed to fit together with a standard crane hook with a lifting capacity in accordance with the figure stated in the table. If a larger crane hook is used, it may not fit directly to the overhaul tools, and the use of an intermediate shackle or similar between the lifting tool and the crane hook will affect the requirements for the minimum lifting height in the engine room (dimension H). The crane hook travelling area must cover at least the full length of the engine and a width in accordance with dimension A given on the drawing (see cross-hatched area). It is furthermore recommended that the engine room crane can be used for transport of heavy spare parts from the engine room hatch to the spare part stores and to the engine. See example on this drawing. The crane hook should as a minimum be able to reach down to a level corresponding to the centre line of the crankshaft. For overhaul of the turbocharger(s), trolley mounted chain hoists must be installed on a separate crane beam or, alternatively, in combination with the engine room crane structure, see separate drawing with information about the required lifting capacity for overhaul of turbochargers. < 7 >
