Voting will take place at a later meeting. END OF YEAR PICNIC The Archway end of year Club Picnic is Sunday, October 14th! Please give Kevin Beutelmann a call at to confirm how many will attend with you, and what side dish you will bring. The picnic shelter is ours all day. Most people will be there from 10 AM to about 2 PM. Lunch will be served around noon. Bring your Oldsmobile, too! Please see the directions to the Greensfelder Shelter in Creve Coeur County Park later in this newsletter. 3 The October President s Message Hello to everyone today. I hope you are all doing well. Ed Davis is recovering from shoulder surgery and is doing much better. Doc Albers has been busy; he is part of the 2013 OCA nationals tour committee and recently purchased a 1972 Blue on blue on blue Cutlass Supreme. Hope you seen this new acquired car at the Fun Show. September 20th several members attended a 2013 OCA National show committee meeting in Springfield Illinois and Doc was there for the tour update. The next morning on the 21st Kathy drove him to the emergency room for test due to his jaw was hurting so they ran an EKG. Then later they ran another EKG. Next thing the doctors installed three stents into his ticker. As you seen at the Fun Show he is back to his old self. Those two have been busy this past month. The Illinois Valley Oldsmobile Club and the Archway Club met at the Crowne Plaza on September 20th in Springfield and there were 20 in attendance and one dog. Both clubs discussed what each committee has done so far and both clubs discussed our options and events for this show. There was progress and a lot was discussed and we have direction from all committees and are continued working on detailing what needs to be done. Much has been accomplished and much more needs to be done. Both clubs have come a long way and we both are detailing what will be needed. We can use help if you wish to be a part of this process. All is running very smooth due to both clubs organizing several car shows every year and this one is just a bigger event. More meetings and more info will follow soon. The annual All Oldsmobile Fun Show was a beautiful day for our event and we broke attendance records of the past. Thank you to those who were a part of the Kids Kard program that helps the museum promote their children's programs. I wish to thank all those who were a part of this day s event making another successful car show. All went very well and all had fun at our fun show. Future events for the club. The Dixie Oldsmobile Club Friday October 5th and Saturday October 6th at 444 Joe Frank Harris Parkway, Cartersville Georgia See your JWO for more information. Saturday October 6th is the Don Brown Dealership Car Show on the Hill. Sunday October 7th is the 4th annual Great River Road Cruise put on by the F.B.I. Car Club. Gathering at the Alton Amphitheater ( by the Argosy ) at 9:30 AM. Cruise to Pere Marquette State Park. Bring your lunch, beverage of choice and chairs. Saturday October 13th Schnucks Store at 1160 Shackelford in Florissant. This show supports Breast Cancer foundation. Fliers were passed around. Sunday October 14th is our annual Archway Club Picnic. See more information in this and last month's newsletter. Bring a appetizer or side dish with your favorite beverage and chairs. The club will furnish the meat and bread and also the gourmet chefs. Same place as in years past. Drive your Oldsmobile's. The October 21st Museum of Transportation Color Tour has been CANCELLED. Mark your calendars for Saturday October 27th "SPOOKTACULAR" Huff's Garage tour in Dupo Illinois. I am looking for a black T-Bird late 50's or early 60's model. If you plan on attending the club is meeting at Hwy 255 and Koch Road under the highway at 9;30 and leave for Dupo Illinois at 10:00. EXIT at Koch Road and we will be parked under the overpass. The club will be providing the meat and buns. Bring an appetizer or side dish please. *** RSVP if you plan on attending and the club will purchase food for you if you respond. Maintaining, repairing and restoring your classic Oldsmobile can become impossibility. A new trend is emerging for Oldsmobile enthusiasts to keep the costs down and continue to enjoy their Oldsmobile s. The trend is Gardening with Oldsmobile s. The concept is simple. If you cannot afford to keep your Oldsmobile running, or restore her, consider using her in a gardening role. For next to no effort on your part, you can strip your car of engine, transmission and any other parts worth selling. After moving those parts on E-Bay, Craig s list or your local Olds Club Newsletter, take the proceeds to purchase good soil and seeds of the plants you wish to grow in your garden. Locate your Oldsmobile to portion of your yard where you wish to garden. Remember to also purchase necessary hoses, spray nozzles, fertilizers, tools & other items you deem necessary for gardening. By this time, you will have already determined if you will utilize the engine compartment, trunk or both. Remove those now unnecessary components, hood & trunk. Once the hood, trunk or both are removed, load them with the soil you have purchased and plant the seeds. If you are being aggressive, you will be planting crops for human consumption. A lovely idea is to plant corn in the trunk & keep lower growing crops in the engine compartment area like tomatoes, raspberries, or green beans. Regardless of your choice in plants or crops, once started, you will be able to watch your Gardening with Oldsmobile from the comfort of the passenger compartment. Regardless of the weather, you will have the joy of being in your Oldsmobile and growing your own food. You may, if your Oldsmobile s body is good, to maintain the paint by washing and waxing it regularly and keeping the interior vacuumed and the windows washed. 6 September 2012 August Meeting Minutes September 2012 Meeting Minutes Meeting was held September 11, :10pm at Sports Café in Bridgeton 26 members in attendance Minutes were approved for August with a correction: the date for the September meeting is the 11th Old Business The club wants to thank Kevin our newsletter editor and our proof editor Darren for getting out our monthly newsletter on time so membership can be early informed about what is happening early in the month. Gateway Buick Regional Show had 47 cars to be judged and 15 on display New Business Mike Weidemier is in need of someone to help with the website updates. Mike if interested Thursday September 20 th the Archway Olds Club will meet with the Illinois Valley Club to work out details on the 2013 OCA nationals The membership should be thinking of Archway Oldsmobile Club Officers Sunday September 30 th is our annual All Oldsmobile Fun Show at the Museum of Transportation. Kids card have been distributed, Larry has purchased the awards and plaques, and Gerald is taking care of the scavenger hunt sheets. Bob and Sherry are going to supply music and announcements. Attendance prizes are being gathered and will be ready for the event. The new museum building is now open and the food is located on the lower level. Sunday October 21 st Fall Cruise to Washington Mo has been cancelled. The Archway Oldsmobile Club Annual picnic is Sunday October 14 at the Greensfelder Pavilion in Creve Coeur Park bring a side dish and the meat will be provided. Kevin and Mike are cooking. Bring a dish, your own drinks and chairs Spooktacular Garage tour to be held Saturday October 27 th to be held in Dupo, Illinois (Bob Huff s garages). The Gateway Buick club and the vintage Chevy club are invited to attend. Hot dogs will be provided. If attending please bring a side dish and chairs. The annual Christmas Brunch will be Sunday December 9 th 11 am at Grappa Grill Meeting adjourned at 8:19 Next meeting is October 9 th at 7:00 pm at Sports Café in Bridgeton 5

Turn west on Dorset Rd toward McKelvey road & continue until Dorset Road ends at Marine Ave. Turn right onto Marine Avenue and take immediate left onto the park road leading to the shelter. Drive to loop in park road near restrooms. Shelter is next to restrooms. More Club News SUPPORT THE MUSEUM OF TRANSPORT Saturday November 10th the Museum of Transportation is hosting Wheels and Wine 2012 from 5:00 PM to 8:00PM at the Museum. This is a fundraising event to support the restoration, conservation, and preservation of the Museum of Transportation historic collections featuring the fine wines and handcrafted beers diverse foods and works of a selected group of local wineries restaurants and artist.
