1 TOUCH OF GLASS CORVETTE CLUB NEWSLETTER Volume 11 - Issue 4 - April 2011 VETTE CHATTER First March Dinner Run One more beautiful Saturday afternoon dinner run. Bring on the sunshine, have 18 to 20 Corvettes meet up at Peters Chevrolet, line up a curvy little black top road and let the fun begin. This was my first trip to Clear Springs Café at Nacogdoches. I d heard about this place that had the marvelous onion rings. Clear Springs Café is the place, they pile them high and this is the first time that I didn t clean the plate. Our group of 38 or so filled two long tables. See page 2 for pictures. 2 Vette Chatter page 2 This was a good fun run with like minded Corvette Fans. We have many fine restaurants around East Texas. I wouldn t be surprised to see a return run here at a later date. It is kind of neat to be traveling along in the middle of a string of Corvettes. There was several times when there were Corvettes as far as the eye could see both ahead and behind. We have many great times ahead. If you didn t make this trip, hop aboard. Dennis

3 Vette Chatter Page 3 MINUTES FOR THE MARCH 2012 TOGCC CLUB MEETING March 6, 2012 President, Jim Spearman, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Visitors and new members were welcomed. In Sheryl s absence, Jim read the minutes from the February meeting. Motion was made to accept the minutes as read. Linda Spicer gave the treasurer s report which reflected a club balance of $5, as of February 29, A motion was made to accept treasurer report. CLUB BUSINESS: Club dues are due Russ ordered 500 business cards. Peters key people posted on home page website ACTIVITIES: John Pierce mentioned Dutch Oven Gathering at Tyler State Park on 1 st Saturday of month at 12:30 p.m. if anyone was interested March 10 Tech Busted Knuckle March 24 Road Rally, end up at Unks Shrimp Shack April Hot Springs August 9-12 Winter Park, Vettes on Rockies Craig & Dale commented on Autorama Feb 11 Double C Steak House Feb 25 CPS Foster Youth Event March 3 Clear Springs PREVIOUS ACTIVITIES: 50/50 drawing went to Carla Salmon. 4 Road Rally Time Vette Chatter page 4 For those who have not done a road rally you might wonder what's that all about. If you have visions of cars flying airborne, throwing gravel and sliding sideways. This ain t that. You do definitely need a navigator to read instructions to the driver. It might seem like, how hard can that be. If you haven t been there, there is room for ambiguity and miss interpretation. The final instruction is to kiss and make up. I would guess this instruction must be for husband and wife teams. You can tell the conversation around the table goes on for awhile. Linda and I have run this very rally before, and still came in dead last. When you are doing something together, with your friends, and driving your Corvettes, this is a good time. And the Winners were, Bob and Katherine Johnson. Dennis

6 Vette Chatter page 6 Dennis s Tech Tip Axel nut location A problem that has cropped up with many C6 s is a ticking noise when starting to move forward from a dead stop. One possible cause is a loose axle nut. This can be very easily checked. All that is required is to remove the center cap and check torque on the nut with a torque wrench. This can be checked with the car sitting on the ground. If this doesn t stop the ticking noise, a next step might be to change out the rear end fluid. At any rate it is so easy to check the axle nut torque. In mere moments we can check any that attend tech day at the Busted Knuckle. Dee Pettigrew has decided to sell her 2009 Red Corvette Coupe. Car is Loaded with 4,950 miles. The Viper is not for sale Dennis has decided to Join the Z06 Crowd..

All that GM will say is that it has invested more that $1 billion in the new engine s manufacturing plants and that the engine itself will have direct fuel injection as well as an advanced combustion system. We re thinking that means a higher compression ratio, better fuel efficiency, smaller displacement, and with no sacrifice in peak power, and some clever means of manipulating valve lift and timing.
