We are an AMA Chartered club and are based at a Metro Park called Peeler Park. We fly a wide range of RC aircraft ranging from small park flyers, to giant scale aerobatic and scale planes including turbine jets. 3 Music City Aviators, August 2017 Meeting Minutes Date: 15 August, 2017 Location: Our Peeler Park flying field, Madison TN Members Present: 14 Presiding: Tom Bible, President August Meeting Recap Opening Remarks: Meeting called to order at 6:25 pm. Tom welcomed and thanked everyone for coming out and thanked the chef for preparing the club provided dinner. Tom asked for a moment of silence for reflection and contemplation of our long time MCA member and friend Mike Denton (recently deceased), then offered everyone to present a "toast in his memory" by lifting our soda cans in a gesture to honor our remembrances of Mike. Tom then solemnly said of Mike's passing; "He's gone west, into the sunset". It was just learned that Frank Trew (former MCA club Secretary) passed away on the 15th of August. Tom asked that we keep Frank's family as well as our sick and shut in members and friends in our thoughts and prayers. Motion made and carried to accept the club minutes report from July, Treasurer s report: Hayes Graf reported our current club fund balance to be $5, with our current 2017 membership role totaling 47 members. Motion made and carried to accept the Treasurers Report. Old Business: The battery charging station has been redesigned and partially reworked. It is now operational without the need of purchasing expensive and hard to maintain lead acid batteries. Instead there are two separate 30 amp power supplies installed with a separate switch for each charging station. This much improved setup now provides battery charging capability for two separate charging ports and there are plans to install three more power supplies with separate control switches for each, giving a total of 5 independent battery charging ports on the station. Five hundred dollars was originally budgeted for repairs and upgrade to the charging table but currently, even after purchase of additional needed wiring and switches, total cost is projected to be less than $200. Tom asks for feedback from anyone using the station and to report any problems encountered. New Business: Dave Palmer gave a report from the recent Middle Tennessee R/C Clubs Association meeting. The MTRCCA sponsored 2017 area events have been very successful so far and profits should again be divided equally among the area clubs. The Association needs continuing volunteer support from each club in order to successfully plan and implement various enjoyable events that benefit all club members and the surrounding communities. John Forehand reports that our Pilot Training program is well underway. Our training plane is fully operational and currently there are two student fliers interested in continuing "buddy box" training. John announced that John Bryant's training manual "WORKS GREAT"! It was reported that a minor glitch was encountered getting the plane's receiver to bind while under the metal shelter but out in the open it binds fine. The need to make sure that the green transmitter NiMh battery packs are fully charged before use was stressed. Continued

4 August Meeting Recap Cont. Announcements: The recent "Model Aviation Day" as hosted by our sister Metro Parks club (The Middle Tennessee Radio Control Society at Cane Ridge Park) was an enjoyable achievement with over $1300 being raised for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). The MTRCS President (Mike Connor) and the MTRCCA President (Dick Tonan) want to thank everyone involved in making this great event a resounding success and want to give special thanks to the event sponsors which included Family Hobbies, Vivid Aerial and Hobbytown USA. Upcoming Events: John Forehand announced that the next scheduled club flying competition event will be scheduled for our traditional OFD of 23 August. The flying contest challenge will be a "Spot Landing Contest", which will test the ability of fliers to precisely land any plane of choice in a traditional manner near a predetermined spot on the runway. No 3D "harrier landings/high alpha approaches" will be allowed but instead the command to cut motor power will be given by the judging official and the plane will have to glide to a landing hopefully near the designated "spot". We will have a separate quad landing area and requirement, as well as a separate Glider landing area in the grass. Every type airplane is welcome. The winner of this event will be provided a free lunch. The MTRCS will host the last "floatplane fly" of 2017 beginning approx. 9 am on the 26th of August at the TWRA Lake at the very end of Old Jones Mill Road in Lavergne TN. Volunteers are needed for the MTRCCA Fall fly-in scheduled for Sept. 9th and 10th at the Dickson TN airport and for prepping the field on the 8 th of Sept. T-Shirts identifying Safety Officers will be furnished by Dick Tonan. The Dickson airport and the local Tri-County R/C club is totally supporting this event, which is open to all AMA members, and will be promoting it through community involvement and advertising. 5 August Meeting Recap Cont. The MTRCCA supported Scot Perry Air Academy for Youth, hosted by the Beechcraft Museum in Tullahoma, TN. is looking to expand this highly successful program to include two separate classes for interested young people. This will include the previously scheduled fall class in October, plus a new one to be started in June of Tom emphasized that a lot of new ideas and changes are planned for these and future Air Academy classes that will provide each kid something tangible to take home with them as well as lots of good lasting memories and knowledge. Tom again gave testimony to the personal satisfaction that one gets from helping interested youth cultivate an interest in model and general aviation. New volunteers are needed to continue and expand this great program. The MTRCCA Fall Swap Meet is scheduled for 4 November, Volunteers will be needed to help set up and conduct this event scheduled to be held at the Antioch United Methodist Church. Closing Remarks: Tom reminded everyone of the total solar eclipse that will occur in our "area of totality" on the 21st of August at 1:27 PM and will last for 1 minute and 54 seconds. Tom plans to be at the field and have a plane in the air during that time and invites anyone who wants to fly in the darkness to join him. Next Meeting: Scheduled for 19 September, 2017, 6:30 PM at our Peeler Park flying field with club provided meal to be served at approx. 6 PM. 6 Remembering Mike Denton ( Aug 31, 1945 Jul 25, 2017) Mike was a dedicated friend and member of our club the Music City Aviators. He was an accomplished musician, modeler and was liked and respected by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family and the many friends he leaves behind. We will miss Mike, his wonderful stories that kept us in stiches, his knowledge which he shared generously, and his beautiful planes which we marveled at when he would bring a new creation to the field.
