Gerry asked for a motion to approve the January minutes. The motion was seconded and approved.

Lee Brant and Lee Brant, yes, both have the same name, are new members from Merritt Island; Denise McLane is from Cocoa. Welcome to all! Gerry asked for a motion to approve the January minutes. The motion was seconded and approved. Officer Reports Gerry Armstrong, President: Last month was the awards banquet; There were no concessions. 50/50: $ Flying Site Fund: $45,129.73; Allocated funds: $1,141.01; Available Funds: $43, Gary Fisher, Vice President: Nothing to report. Ron Mock, Recording Secretary: The new year s Club Charter and Insurance will be sent in for renewal this week. Mark Sorenson, Membership Secretary: Mark turned in $2, in membership dues which brings the club to 143 members. Not many calling in to renew so membership has leveled off at 143. Lee Royer, Treasurer: Balance of the general fund as of 15 January: $9,096.65, Income (Dues): $100.00, Expenses for participation program $514.31, General Fund Balance: $8, Lee announced there were items on the table for anyone who wants them. Approximately $ has been received, while some items remained on the table towards the end of the meeting. Scott Bauman, Safety Officer: There was an over-fly complaint. Everyone is reminded again of the west road. Land-fill management observed the flyers and at no time did any one fly past the west road. Two different pilots were turning well before the west road while one was turning right at the road. The landfill manager Mr. Dees spoke to the pilots and reminded them of the boundary.

2 Dave Platt, Event Coordinator: February 28 thru March 2 nd is Gator F3B; March 14 thru 16 is 3 rd Annual Aero-Tow; 29 March is the Valkaria Air Fest Old Business Since there was no meeting last month, there is no Old Business. New Business Everyone had a chance to read the newsletter, prior to the meeting. Dave Platt made a motion: Anyone getting caught doing something that violates the security with the 524 site or any activity that would reflect poorly on the club, now and in the future, is to be denied membership in the club. The club needed a simple majority vote on this measure. There was considerable discussion on the scope of this motion and the affect it would impose on the club membership. Questions were raised regarding procedures and what each member was to do. Proper display of a parking pass, that needs to be in each pilot s possession, was also discussed. This motion stems from an incident where a number of pilots were entering the north gate, illegally and got caught. No license was taken or plate numbers were recorded. However, the facility management will make note of tag numbers in the future and turn them into the club for appropriate action. A question was presented to elaborate on the matters that lead to this motion. Gerry explained what had transpired; People would go to the gate house and discovered they did not have their card with them. Instead of driving back to get the card, they would circumvent the process and go to the north gate to get in. The north gate is not to be used by club members as a means to gain access, under any circumstances. Ron Ellis seconded the motion, and the motion was passed by the membership majority during this meeting. A discussion about the color of the card was presented. More cards will be made with a new color and also to replace/add to the diminishing number of existing cards. Latest on 192 site: Gerry was not available to meet with the county in January. He plans to meet in February. A Sign-up Sheet for concessions was provided by Dale Kai for those who want to donate goodies and refreshments in support of the effort. Jerry O Keefe described the Big Bird Event. Special thanks were expressed to those who helped out during the event. The club made $ Gerry presented Roger Visioli the Irky Dirk award personally, since Roger was not at the banquet in January. Show and Tell Ron Ellis showed some old Kraft radio transmitters and described the conversions he had done to them. One was a Gold medal Series TX and another, the older PCS TX (Hey, I remember these!!). Ernie LeClair showed a small electric Flying Snoopy Dog House, he purchased, some photos of models, including one of a modified a pool toy so it could fly! Danny Melnik showed an 84 ARF Big Foot. Danny usually flies electric and decided to try Gas.

3 Winner was Ron Ellis with his modified Kraft Radios. Model of the Month Ken Wright showed a J-3 Cub originally designed for 3-channel. He reduced dihedral and installed ailerons. Ken won the Model of the Month. 50/50 The 50/50 drawing was counted: $17.00 to the club and $18.00 to the winner. Dennis Grayson won the 50/50. A correction to last month s minutes was made in regards to the winner of the 50/50 who was not identified. Dale Kai was last month s winner of the 50/50. Events Danny Melnik went to the Mulberry Big Bird Event last week. They had about 20 pilots and it turned out to be a nice day. Dave Platt and Ron Ellis attended the VRCS Fellowship Meet in Punta Gorda. Upcoming Events The Gator F3B will be held 28 February-2 March. The IRKS 3 rd Annual Space Coast Aero-Tow will be held of March Indoor Flying Bruce Rodriguez is looking into using the Melbourne Stadium/Auditorium for a Fly-In. More to come, so stay tuned! For the good of the Club Dave Platt described an experience involving the sub substitution of nickel cadmium batteries for lipo batteries in transmitters. Initially unaware the batteries had previously been replaced; Dave used the appropriate charger for the model/manufacturer of transmitter to charge the batteries. It was not long before smoke started to fill the room where the transmitter was being charged. The lipo batteries inside the transmitter erupted in fire, seriously damaging the inside of the transmitter. As a reminder to all make sure of the type of batteries being charged and use the charger designed for the specific type of batteries. This is especially important when obtaining equipment from third parties and not directly from the hobby store or through the dealers. NEVER leave the premises when charging Lipo Batteries. Houses have been destroyed because no one was home when the batteries erupted. I know of one individual who lost a brand new home, in Grant FL, a few years ago for doing just that! When storing lipos, you should purchase one of the Fire Resistant safes that are about the size of a shoebox. They are built with a fire insulated material in between the outer and inner walls. 5 AED Training The club has purchased an AED to help anyone having a heart attack at the field. We will be showing a video on how to use it at the conclusion of this month s meeting. The video is less than 12 and half minutes long. We will also be putting it on the club s website for those who can t make it to the meeting.
