1 Vette Chatter 1 March 2008 Volume 7 Issue 3 VETTE CHATTER 32 Annual LeTourneau University Car Show Inside this issue: Tech Days 2 New Glass 3 Corvette Tech 4 Valve Rules 5 Chatter Box 6 Club Calendar 7 Contacts 8 The Fair Grounds Exhibition Hall in Longview opened its doors to a host of unique and exotic cars on March 1st & 2nd. A total of 13 Corvettes were put on display along with other muscles cars. The show s creators made sure every Corvette Generation was well represented. One of the most talked about cars was the Corvette Z066. (This is not a typo). The owner, Doyle Thomas showcased the creation of a functioning 2003 Corvette Z06 with a custom built frame to fit under a 1966 Corvette body. No item was overlooked which included chrome wheels embossed with the Z066 number. The car has the looks of yesteryear with the speed and agility of the future. The Z066 is a total Zoom package. 2 Vette Chatter 2 There was a BUZZ of activity at Tech Day as cars lined the drive way to the Busted Knuckle Shop. First, Ed Rohner installed new break rotors and ceramic pads to his wife's 04 C5. While this was going on Jim McMichael was installing a C6 crossed flags decal to the hood liner on his 07 C6. Then Jerry Schroeder drove in his new 2008 Z06, man it is sharp. Jerry and Terry Hawkins installed a relay to open and close the butterfly's on the exhaust so Jerry can demo the sound to all his buddies. Heck we all know they sound good. How does it Run! We can hear you coming. We also had a special guest at tech day this month, Heath Pickering returned to visit us from his new home in McAllen Texas. Heath picked up on the B&B exhaust from Jerry's 05 C6 and installed it during tech day, what a deal! The last car was Frank Stec and he was wanting to perform a cleaning on his K&N air filter, we checked it out, blew it out with the air gun and reinstalled it. It really didn't need the cleaning kit until next time. We decided to wait and do that just before the Colorado trip coming up. There were other members there lending their support and we appreciate that. One last note to Sandra McGregor, you must have got on to Chuck pretty hard about falling asleep at the last tech day because he wouldn't even sit down this time! 3 Vette Chatter 3 The TOGCC group members are making sure that the start of a great week begins with a Sunday Cruise. The group s Sunday cruises have not only been a relaxing treat of desserts but a euphoric ride through the back roads of East Texas. Hughes Springs to Marshall, no place is safe. Activity Director, Wayne White has taken great strides to ensure that the cruises uncovers new places to see as well as new road to travel. The great weather has added an extra touch in making Sunday cruises the best. Wayne is always up for suggestions or ideas on the next Sunday Cruise. See You on the Road. Everyone was speechless and happy to see his new toy. Jerry how many does this make? Congrats on your new addition!!!!

4 Vette Chatter 4 SQUEAL ON YOU If you have a persistent squeak from your brakes and you've tried everything to stop it, try this: Remove the pads and clean the back to remove dirt and dust. Brake cleaner works perfectly (make sure to keep it off any painted surface). It dries fast and does not leave a residue. After cleaning, spray or brush on a good coating of disc-brake anti-squeal compound on the back of the pads. Allow it to dry for half an hour, then replace the pads and anti-squeal shims (if used on your car). The squeaks should be banished for a couple of years. NAIL BITER Believe it or not, nail-polish remover makes an effective and inexpensive small-parts cleaner. The polish remover is acetone, and the most potent, least expensive stuff comes without scents or oils. By the way, in diluted form it will remove bugs and tar from chrome, and remove grease and oil instantly. Just keep in mind acetone is also a wonderful paint remover, and, for a perfectly restored Corvette, that's the last thing you need to spill. DIM HEADLIGHT If you have a dim headlight, the cause is a bad ground. Clean the ground and the headlight should work. (Please note this is advice and not a diagnosis for your Corvette. 5 Vette Chatter 5 TOGCC will hold the first Series of Valve Cover Nationals at the May 3rd McKaig Corvette Car Show in Gladewater, Texas. Here are the rules... Let's get your valve cover ready. If you have any questions contact Russ Shepard or Wayne White. (see last page under contact) The Valve Cover Nationals is like a pine wood derby only with valve covers. The valve covers would run down a track 3' high from the ground and 30" in length. TOUCH OF GLASS CORVETTE CLUB VALVE COVER NATIONALS CLASSES STOCK Must use small block Chevy valve cover Must be short type only Can be steel or aluminum Must be stock in appearance (no wings, etc.) Maximum width 10 inches Maximum weight 5 lbs. MODIFIED Must be small block Chevy Can be tall or short Can be steel, aluminum, cast or carbon fibre Wings and accessories (paint, exhaust etc.) are allowed (Use your imagination) Maximum width 10 inches Maximum weight 7 lbs. RULES & SPECIFICATIONS Valve Covers No engines or motors are allowed, gravity power only All entries must be officially weighed in Valve Covers must pass a technical inspection Valve Covers must have a minimum of three wheels Individual entries are allowed in one class only Track -- all measurements are approximate -- Track - about 25 to 30 feet long Starting line feet off the floor Lanes - 12 inches wide Rails - 3 inches high Races will be electronically timed, if possible Eliminations will proceed after time trails and qualifying runs are completed Entrants Entrant is responsible for staging their valve cover entry Valve Cover Racing is open to Touch of Glass Corvette registrants and their families Racing is open to kids (of ALL ages!), one official entry each per class Unsportsmanlike behavior will result in disqualification Organizers Organizers do not accept responsibility for injury or damage to persons or property Decisions of the CCVCC Committee will be final (No protests will be acknowledged) Prizes and Awards Awards split among classes (1st, 2nd, 3rd or more) is to be announced at the event Prizes may be awarded for People's Choice and Unique awards.

6 Vette Chatter 6 The "Corvette Wave" is an integral part of the mystic and culture of the Corvette owner experience. Corvette owners who wave at fellow Corvette owners show a mark of recognition that you are among the elite group of intelligent people who are driving America's True Sports Car. And as a member of this elite group, you should be recognized for your pose and intelligence. So for those who don't know the five simple Corvette Wave rules, here they are: There is no excuse for not waving at your fellow Corvette owner. Although most Corvette owners have the understanding and class to accept when their wave is not returned, not waving is a serious breach of proper Corvette etiquette. Whoever sees the other Corvette first, starts the wave. There isn't any rule about who waves first. This is simple; if you see another Corvette, wave! Rules 1 and 2 apply to both sexes. As far as who starts the wave, it doesn't make a difference if you are a man or women. Rules 1 and 2 apply. Any type of wave is okay. Whether you shoot a big wave up through your open Vette top, out the window, or a quick salute with your hand on the steering wheel, any wave that can be seen by the other Corvette driver is okay. However, this does not include any style of jester that can be interpreted as obscene or insulting. Remember, Corvette owners are a class act; while someone might have been rude or stupid to you, try not to return the favor. (This is a tough rule not to break with all the stupid drivers who manage to get a driver's license.) A late wave is better than no wave. If you suddenly realize that a Corvette driver is passing and waving at you, get a wave off as soon as possible. The other Corvette driver may see your wave in their rear view mirror and realize that you where just a little late in getting your wave going. Although missing the timing of your wave is a "goof," this can be acceptably covered by getting off a wave that the other Corvette driver has a chance to see. So you can see the underlying concept here is simple, Wave at you fellow Corvette owners, whoever they are, whenever you see them. This will show you are a person who understands the full measure and etiquette that comes with your proud ownership of a Corvette. Collette Stec

Saturday, April 5, Tuff Shed presentation at Home Depot in Longview, Texas. Display our cars from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Food and Live Entertainment for all to enjoy. Central Arkansas will host the Annual Hot Springs Corvette Show. Saturday, April 26, Chuck s Road Rally. Time and location announced in updates. Saturday, May 3, McKaig s Annual Corvette Show in Gladewater. Texas. May 16th thru 18th Lone Star Corvette Club will host the Annual Lone Star Classic at Texas Motor Speedway. Saturday, June 7, TOGCC Annual Picnic at the Lake O Pines. Bring you chairs, side dishes and good spirits to share with all. Saturday, June 14, TOGCC Annual Garage Sale at Horn s House in White Oak.
