You couldn t have paid for a more beautiful day. As you peruse the pictures notice the nice park-like area, grassy area surrounded by mature (and some new) trees, and in one you can see a semi on the very close I15. I counted 26 Corvairs throughout the day, Derrick Graham s 427-powered being the last one I counted. About 10 swap spaces were set up, Paul Kehler provided some tunes and a number of friends from up north dropped in. Greg Vargas and few SCC and Vintage folks were there pushing the Toss and their raffle car tickets. A number of our new members (Continued on page 4)

3 General Meeting Minutes for April 12, 2012 Meeting called to order at 7:09 pm 19 members present, 2 guests and 3 Corvairs, 2 new members signed up tonight, Dale Lee ( 67 Monza coupe) and Bruce Kosak ( 62 Rampside) Mike Rodgers introduced Officers March minutes in Vairmail were approved OLD BUSINESS Treasurer, No report, David was a bit late Membership, Red Badgett: membership 97 (41 single and 28 family) + 2 subscribers Activities, per mike Evans; Cruise nites are starting up, Several more popular ones were brought up. Good resource is goodoleboyssandiego.com for classic and custom car events. 1 Day a Vair event in Rainbow is the 28th of this month. Paul discussed the rental of port a potties; cost is $81 delivered and picked up. Company will drop them off on Friday evening and pick up Monday (since they don t operate on the weekend, we get that time free). Paul will have music setup, Red will bring his generator, just in case. Eating at the restaurant will help ensure we ll be welcome next year. The flea market on-site is offering a 50% discount to all attending the Corvair event. Greg Vargas would like to drop by to promote the Vintage/South Coast CORSA Toss raffle car. Carol Bell suggested that we might have a drawing for a $100 Clark's gift certificate as part of the 50/50 drawing at Rainbow. NEW BUSINESS Paul Majchrzak brought in a nice layout of the article on his 64 Spyder convertible published in The Car Magazine of Japan. Of course it s all in Japanese. He will display the article with his car when he shows it. BUY & SELL Bob Bacchi has 2 boxes of eight 44FF spark plugs. He wants $20 a box (Paul Kehler offered a short Tech session on plug reach and consequences of using wrong one. Mike and the Mitty As much as Mike McCrea would have liked to be with us in Rainbow this past weekend, he figured spending his time at Road Atlanta at the annual Historic Sportscar Racing Mitty in Atlanta, Georgia. Haven t heard whether just enjoyed the fun or drove one of the 17 participating Corvairs. Larry Tustison said he had thought about going but. Guess that s why they call the Mitty. Something to dream about in your secret life except for Mike, of course. 4

Very reliable. $6,000 call Larry or at larrytustison@sbcglobal.net Cal Williamson Reverse Engineers Reversing Switch Member Cal Williamson, machinist by trade, decided his Corvair need some kind of reliable reverse light switch, so he took one apart figured out that GM wants you to buy new ones. Corvair folks aren t into Corvairs because they like to spend money. Besides, you can t hardly find new back up switches no more. He figured he braze up the worn detent post and return it to its original configuration. Then he d tap the inside of switch and make a new contact plate to screw into it. And voila! At the moment he s rebuilding a few for Jeff Williams. Good thing he s not doing it for a living, though. This is a time consuming process.
