Tiger Tales By Ken Smith Lots of stuff to discuss, so let s get to it! First, a promise was made to Jim Hallman, the President of the Northern Illinois Fiero Enthusiasts Club (NIFE), that I would announce that June 1st has been designated as Pontiac Tribute Day. So get your Pontiacs on the road that day and show the world your idea of Pontiac Excitement. This statement comes from their website at Tuesday, June 1, 2010 was chosen because May 31, 2010 is the last day the dealerships can sell and advertise a Pontiac as a Pontiac dealership. By midnight on the May 31, 2010 Pontiac Motor Division officially ceases to exist. Next, for those of you looking for a GTO or Judge...here are a couple of auctions in the near future: May is the Mecum Indy Spring Classic that currently has 58 GTOs coming across the auction block. RM Auctions will drop the hammer on an outstanding private collection of high-powered muscle cars on June 19 th as part of a single-day sale in San Diego, California. Classic Muscle & Modern Performance, the sale will present over 80 magnificent examples without reserve from a private Southern California collector. The offering spans a variety of iconic Detroit muscle, including some 19 Pontiac GTOs and represents the owner's lifelong passion for high-performance vehicles. Their website is: I also received information on a GTO for sale outside of our club, so I know nothing more than what was sent in the from the Classic GTO Association of Denver (so potential buyers beware) Pontiac GTO Sport Coupe: Vin K130066, Automatic, 8 Cylinder, A/C, Power Steering, Tilt Wheel, AM/FM radio, Candy Apple Red Exterior, Black Interior, Runs Excellent and Sounds Awesome. Originally sold at Mahan Chevrolet - Pontiac of Deleen, TX on March 29, 1967 for $4, This GTO Sport Coupe documented by PHS (Pontiac Historical Society) is one of 7,029 GTO Sport Coupes manufactured that year. People should be taken care of as good as this car has been. Looking for $25,000 / Serious buyers can contact I pass all this information on in my column, because I have saved all of you from my latest rantings. Instead, I want to focus everyone s attention on the membership of the Cruisin Tigers. We just ended our annual membership renewal drive and as of this column s creation we still need about 80 people to renew. I have no doubt that about half of those still on the wanted list will send me a check, but I always wonder what could have been different to reduce our losses. I realize that we are in tough economic times, but I cannot imagine what my days would be like without my energies spent as Editor and Membership Chairman and Indian Uprising Preregistration Committee Member. Oh yeah, I d be cruisin! So, until I come to my senses I ll see you down the road! This Month s Cover By Ken Smith Okay, this month s cover is from some photos that I took at one of our club s Indian Uprising sponsors (Tri POWER Automotive) Spring Dust Off. This event was originally created years ago for some Pontiac big bodies (the cars not the owners). Mike Ardito is one of the owners of Tri POWER and a Cruisin Tiger and invited our club s members to attend this event. All I can say is WOW! They will have to enlarge their parking facilities to get any more Pontiacs on their lot. I have inserted more photos later in this issue. Next year make sure that you attend this outing and come early or you might end up parking somewhere down the road!

My View By: Jim Stern, President May, 2010 New Members: If this is your first issue of Tiger News, Welcome Aboard! Thanks for joining us, we appreciate it. Please attend our meetings and activities whenever possible. If you would like to contribute in some way let me know. We can always use more hands and heads! If you have questions, need help or simply want to chat, drop me an (address below) or call (630) April Did It! Actually we did it during April. Our April meeting was held at member Rob Lozins car filled shop. We appreciate his hospitality and the major effort he puts forth to make our Show commemorative Illinois vehicle license plate program such a huge success. This year he came up with the concept of auctioning off a very special license plate displaying only the letters GTO. Jane & Steve Lucas high bid of $1,600 took it. Wow & thanks! (Additional coverage appears elsewhere.) May Is Of Age! We made it, we re 21 - let s celebrate! Our meeting on Saturday, May 15th will be at our usual location, Mr. Beef & Pizza (Mt. Prospect, IL). During this meeting we will be celebrating our (one month belated) 21st birthday. Come view a club history display and watch continuously running video. In conjunction, our meeting theme poses this question to our attending members: Where were you and what were you doing when you turned 21? That should stir up some fun! Come join us for free pizza, soft drinks, and yes, birthday cake! June, Oh June - Where Are You? Our June meeting will also be at Mr. Beef & Pizza. The theme of that meeting will be: Follow my directions! Members will be asked to prepare a description of, and detailed turn-by-turn directions for, a fun / scenic cruise route. A starting point and ending point will make it easy to judge which self-cruise is best for you. Who knows, a route or two might turn into a follow me cruise instead of a do-it-yourself event. Let s have some fun with this! WEB Site Restoration: Over the course of the next 12+ months our club web site will undergo a body-off-frame-restoration! Member Charles Singer has agreed to undertake this project which he estimates will take approximately one year. He is seeking input from all members who wish to make a contribution. A Site Guidance Committee is being assembled. If you are willing to join in this effort, contact Charles or me. The activity between now and early August will involve site planning and organization. Initially questions need to be answered regarding: a) what topics / functions from the existing site should be retained and b) what topics / functions should be added to the new site? A site map (linking / menu tree) needs to be drawn and a design theme and colors need to be selected before programming begins. Once our Uprising Show is behind us, page-by-page programming work will begin. When completed, Charles will assume the role of Site WEB Master and, after 10 years in that position, I can fade from the scene. Got an idea or suggestion for a meeting theme or other activity? Great, speak up, we re all ears! ATTEND MEETINGS, JOIN COMMITTEES - IT S MORE FUN WHEN YOU RE INVOLVED! Send Comments, Criticisms & Suggestions To: president08@cruisintigersgto.com

April Meeting Minutes By Sylvia Heidlauf Our meeting took place at Rob Lozins garage in Wheeling. It started at 4:34pm The club thanked Rob for the invite to his garage and for letting us have our club meeting there. There was pizza and soft drinks provided for the members as well. Sam Mancuso from UCP came by and is now officially a member of the Cruisin' Tigers. There were two other new members in attendance as well. Richard (Dick) Brooks and Jim Wershing. He rejoined the club after a brief absence. Jim Stern introduced the officers with the exception of John Campbell (whose mother passed away) and Randy Ray (whose father passed away). All of our prayers and thoughts are with both families. As per the treasurer s report we are in the black and this is also our renewal month. Ken Smith reported on our membership and we have added 6 new members since our March meeting (3 of the new members joined at this meeting). If you have not renewed your membership by May's newsletter, you will "Slide off" the membership list as Ken Smith put it. If anyone needs a club roster, please contact Ken Smith and he will be happy to send you one. Mike Ardito let us know about his annual Pontiac Club event held on May 1st. It starts at 11:00 and lunch will be served at noon. For the Muscle Car National's next year, our club is trying to get every year GTO. We will also have another corral for the extra cars that are on display. Rick Last updated us on upcoming Indian Uprising. The Band "1969" will be playing at the Indian Uprising event this year on Saturday evening in the parking lot of the show field. There will be a dyno machine at the Uprising show this year. It is a new item which we hope will be a big item for our show. We will also be able to hear all the announcements inside and outside this year thanks to 3-D sound. So no matter where you are, you should be able to hear everything. There are now two car classes at the Uprising. All Pontiacs that were manufactured for years 1926 thru 1981 is one class and the second class is 1982 to the present. Rob Lozin's spoke about his "Special" license plate for the Uprising this year. The highest bid was at $1, As this was the last day for bidding the plate was given to the winners at the meeting and the winners were: Steve & Jane Lucas. Congrats! All plates for this event are good for two months on ANY car, not only your GTO. Rob also said that there were plenty of license plates on hand to be sold, so please order your plates now. To order plates contact Rob Lozins at Jeff Hill has a friend looking for a 1967 license plate frame. Please contact Jeff if you have an extra one or if you know of one that's just hanging around. Jim Stern would like people to try to get more new members into our club. There were applications at the door for everyone to take with them when they leave. Sylvia spoke of Rich's progress with the new gas E85. It is still in the winter blend stage which is E75. He did a few runs in the low 10's. He ran a and he even backed out of it at the top end. So who knows what will happen when the fuel becomes the full E85. Steven ran his first race of the year and came in second for that evening. Charles Singer is having another charity cruise for "Bright Horizons" (which is a special needs school which his son attends). It is called Cruise for Wings. It is on August 28th at Deer Park across from the fire station. For additional details contact Charles Singer at

April Meeting Minutes (cont.) By Sylvia Heidlauf Raffle tickets were pulled and we had several items to raffle off. There were a total of 5 Muscle Car National hats and the winners of the hats were: Nick Spensiri (1), Charles Singer (2) & Mike Ardito (2) Two 2009 Indian Uprising T-shirts were also given away and they were won by: Tom Burke and Ken Smith. The 50/50 amount was at $ and the winner for that was Doug Mecklenburg. After he won he renewed his membership (for two years) with the newly acquired money. The "You Gotta Be Here" would have been won by Don and Jane Marksi (CT#389) for the amount of $464.00; but unfortunately, they weren't here. The money will continue to roll over into next month. The meeting was adjourned at 5:20. GTO Car Wash By Ken Braun It s very inviting, but I think I ll wash mine by hand.. - Editor My wife Gail and I spent this past weekend in the Yakima Valley at the Spring Wine Barrel Tasting event. In downtown Yakima, Gail spotted this sign. Take a look. It looks like a '67.

My First Time Behind The Wheel By Randy Pribyl (Jim Stern set the March club meeting designated topic of conversation as My first time behind the wheel. Unfortunately, Randy Pribyl had already made plans with his wife to be elsewhere. That did not stop him from passing along his recollections and for that... we are grateful. - Editor) Having read the newsletter makes me think of one of my first driving experiences. I was sixteen and just learning to drive while on a family vacation to California. On the way back to Iowa (going through Nevada), Dad was getting tired and asked me if I would drive. As we were going down the road Dad fell asleep, while my Mom and two sisters were sleeping in the back seat. Well being that Nevada had no speed limits back then and that everyone was sleeping and I had a good 4 mile straightaway ahead of me, I opened the throttle on the 289 Ford and decided to see what she could do. I remember hitting 95 and that most of the acceleration was spent, so backed down. With all the windows open (because we had no A/C) it was a little windy, but I loved it. No one woke up, so I just kept that little experience to myself. I told my wife this story yesterday and she said I haven t changed a bit.
