There were 15 members in attendance. PLEASE WELCOME (back) new (old) member Mike Victor to the Club! MEETING MINUTES: Jay Robinson read the minutes from the April Business Meeting and they were approved as read. TREASURER S REPORT: Mary Chevalier gave the Treasurer's report, and we have a little less money than last month. OLD BUSINESS: The annual Bowling Tournament was discussed, and al agreed it was a great time. A flyer was made for the Echo Car show. The date is July 12th, from 11 to 3. 6 MAY 2014 Page 6 LETTER FROM THE EDITOR CLUB OFFICERS 2014 President: Brian Schachtner 9002 Eldorado Avenue Frederick, CO (h) (c) bkschachtner@msn.com Vice President: Jon Chevalier 1803 Daphne Drive Loveland, CO heavychevy47@gmail.com Secretary / Newsletter Editor: Jay Robinson 655 Zuni Circle Fort Collins, CO (h) (c) secretary@ncgtoa.com Treasurer: Mary Chevalier 1803 Daphne Drive Loveland, CO heavychevy47@gmail.com Webmaster: Jay Robinson secretary@ncgtoa.com For those of you who were offended by my letter in the March issue of this newsletter regarding me getting an award at the 2012 GTOAA Nationals for my car that was totally undeserving (according to the points accumulated), too bad. The way I see it, if the system worked as most car owners on this planet, and members of the GTOAA that go to these conventions with stars in their eyes think that it works, this never would have happened. It is very simple. It is a set points judging system. Points are given, or taken away, for various items, in several categories. If your car falls in either the Bronze, Silver or Gold category for the points accumulated, that is the award you should be presented with. On that note, if the whole GTOAA concours premise is based on this points system, please tell me why the car with the most points on their tally sheet doesn't win the best of show?? Unfortunately, human emotions step in where they don't belong. I will never have this problem, as I took the time (32 years) to restore my own car, by myself, to MY standards. I didn't have the unlimited bankroll to pay some professional restorer to make my car perfect, I had to fund it one part at a time. Don't get me wrong, some of these professionally restored cars are things of beauty, directly off the showroom floor like some kind of car time warp, even better sometimes. They are beautiful to look at, and the craftsmen that restore them are genuinely talented. This is what the GTOAA Concours standard is becoming. Either pristine trailer queens that owners are afraid to drive without cute little booties and white gloves on, or a car that is delegated to the back of the pack, basically snubbed. We had a cruise to Estes Park at the 2012 Nationals, and I was thrilled at the number of Concours cars that came out in to the sunlight for the long drive. But I also was privy to the inside chatter that looked down on these owners, like it was sacrilegious to drive these cars. What happened to owning a car, driving it like it was meant to be driven, enjoying the camaraderie that comes with these fine automobiles, no matter what the shape it is in? Museum piece? Not for me. I own it to drive it, race it, and love it. I own it to have my daughter spill her juice box in it (amazing how easy the seats clean up!). Sure, I like others to admire my car, even compliment me on it. But I never would ever want to own a GTO that gets an award it doesn't deserve or worse yet, own a car that the powers that be see as inferior, and give it an award anyway because they feel sorry for it's owner.

9 MAY 2014 Page 9 ABOUT THE NORTHERN COLORADO GTO ASSOCIATION The Northern Colorado GTO Association was founded in 1984 with several objectives in mind. The primary objective is to HAVE FUN and to promote interest in the Pontiac GTO. With that in mind, we try to schedule at least one club event every month. These events may be car shows, picnics, club member attendance at car shows, sanctioned drag races, participation in charity events, Drive-In movie nights (Yes we still have a drive-in theater in Northern Colorado!) or any other event that involves people getting together to enjoy the fun of owning a true muscle car. DUES: $30.00 yearly for the entire household CLUB WEBSITE: Follow us on Facebook! Group Name - "Northern Colorado GTO Association" (On electronic version of newsletter - control "click" to follow link for both website and Facebook site) The club business meetings are held the first Thursday of each Month Please see the minutes for the time and place of the next business meeting ABOUT THE GTO ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA The Northern Colorado GTO Association is an affiliated chapter of the GTO Association of America, and we encourage all of our members to become members of the GTOAA.
