1 BOW TIMES 2304 Mayfield Dr., Round Rock, Texas Volume 28 Number 10 October 2006 Established in 1979 to encourage the restoration and preservation of all series and models of 1955, 1956 and 1957 Chevrolets, including Corvettes and Trucks. MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE NEXT MEETING Dinner meeting Thursday, October 19 at Ryan's Steakhouse on Parmer Lane. Dinner at 6:30 PM, meeting at 7:30. If you prefer, come for the meeting only. MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT October 3 rd! Where has the year gone? I swear that time goes faster the older I get! How about you? Do you have the same feeling? I remember when I was a kid summer seemed like it lasted forever. I guess as your world expands and you get older, your scope and responsibilities expand too and the result is that you have less idle time. I just got back from the Goodguys Lonestar Nationals in Fort Worth. It was the largest Lonestar show (>2000 cars) that I have been to in six years. Could it be because of the cheaper gas and people are driving again or maybe because no one expects Cruisin-the-Coast to be very good and opted to go to Fort Worth instead? I did see fellow CTCCC members Garry J., Don and Marilyn P., Rick and Robin P., and Pete and Paula B. there. October is the month that we need to think about who you want to run the club next year. I will be taking nominations at the next dinner meeting so be prepared to nominate your candidates. Also as of today we do not have plans or reservations for a club Christmas party this year. So if you have any ideas for one, get in contact with Robin P. I always liked the potluck format at someones house or at a park. BTW - Lonestar XXV is seven months away! Plans should be taking shape. Hope to see you soon! Tom 1
2 MINUTES FROM THE LAST MEETING CTCCC Meeting held 7:30 PM September 21, 2006 at Tres Amigos on Capitol of TX Highway. Twenty-five members were present. President Tom Porter called the meeting to order and gave a report of his summer adventures, including the Woodward Avenue Cruise in Detroit, the 50 th anniversary celebration for the 56 Chevy, Springfield Ill. Hot Rod Nationals. Tom s 56 Corvette can be seen on Eckler s website. Kay Bowen presented the treasurer s report for July and August. It was accepted. The August meeting minutes were accepted as printed in the newsletter. Dan Bowen reported that the judging forms for Lone Star are ready. Ronnie Raben reported that a couple of local radio executives had said they will be willing to advertise Lone Star, they are 94.7 and Tom said that Dennis has been trying to find covered parking for Lone Star. The Round Rock Tourist Center recommended a downtown city parking lot. He is going to check on it. Tom was going to Walberg next week to check out places to cruise to Friday night of Lone Star. Gary Brown passed around a sample of the miniature Chevys he is preparing to sell at Lone Star. He has found 56 Nomads for $5 apiece, other cars are $3 apiece. He is making packages to match the Lone Star flier. They will cost an average of $4 to make and will sell for $10. He plans to make 100 and wanted members to look at places like Dollar General for Hot Wheels cars for him. Kay Bowen resigned as head of the registration committee. She will still help with the committee, but not as chairman. After a discussion, it was agreed that we would offer Pete Sawatsky a vendor space and two hotel nights as compensation for classifying cars at Lone Star. The point was made that it would be best if someone who was perceived to be impartial did the classification. Nominations for next year s officers will be at the October meeting. Where to have the Christmas party was discussed. Gino s and a hotel at Highland Mall were discussed. Dan Bowen won the 50/50 drawing and donated it to the scholarship fund. The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Pat Corbell. Jerry & Kay Dixon were recently involved in a very bad traffic accident. Kay is in a neck brace and Jerry is banged up quite a bit. They are doing much better now but both are still under Doctor s care.
