Presidents Message I wasn t able to go to Macungie this year, at the last minute I had to change plans and I was sorely disappointed. My wife and I did get a chance to getaway around the 4th of July to TN and GA and when we travel I usually get the paper USA Today at my hotel. Seems like there s not much good news to report in the papers these days: 10-Year Treasury Yield Hits Fresh Low Minimum Wage gets bumped to as much as $14.82 in some places, while the military and seniors don t seem to get any respect, veteran suicides for 2014 saw an average of 20 a day, the good news on that, I guess is that s down from 22 a day in 2010, but hey we have 7,403 former vets and the political landscape is a virtual minefield. My take away from this is I m glad for our hobby as it gives one a break from the world in the news as it is today and harkens back to a simpler time where with a few simple tools and elbow grease we could make something run and run well and have pride in our accomplishments and preserve something for future generations to enjoy. Speaking of the future we have a few meetings remaining before our next big show with lots of work to be done before then. 2 Minutes from May 21 Meeting at Jerry Grizzell s From our Secretary: Jeff Lakaszcyck The meeting was called to order at 1 pm with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. All officers and one board member were present, along with about a dozen members. Introductions were made, and Bill made his introductory comments. Jerry gave the treasurers report. It was noted that only a handful of members have paid their dues, which were due May first for all members. The secretary read the minutes from the last meeting. Old Business: Brooksville Fair Notes: Bill, Jerry & Richard reported on the fair. A handful of members spent a week at the fair with 6-7 trucks on display. The results from the fair were disappointing. No new members were signed up, and due to layout of the fair there was very little foot traffic past our display, except on the day when the track had events. On the positive side we did gain some valuable experience in setting up our movie booth, and have some good ideas to improve the display for future events. It is uncertain if we will return to the fair next year. Promoting the Chapter and recruiting New Members: Bill reported on the signboards discussed at the last meeting and detailed in the last newsletter. Bill is working on a new layout that was suggested and will have it completed shortly. Signboards will be available to members for a $20 deposit. A question was asked about license plates and Bill already has those available for a small fee. New Business: 2017 Truck Show: The show will once again be at Stew Paquette s in Leesburg. The dates for 2017 are February 16, 17, & 18. We will not be up against the Daytona 500 weekend again as that has moved to the weekend after. Apparently our truck show cut into their ticket sales (we wish LOL!!). There was discussion about having our own sign at the entrance to the museum on SR44 to promote the truck show. Stew already has a sign to promote the tractor show but it does not mention the trucks. Jerry and Bill will see if we can do this. At our officers meeting we discussed establishing a show committee. That will probably take place in September. Members Attending Shows this Summer: Bob Coolidge is leaving this week to attend the Salem, Oregon ATHS National show. Bill, Jerry, Richard, JoJo, and Jeff all plan to go to Macungie. Art said he was attending some local shows up north as well. 3 Pickup Truck Stamps: In 2016, the U.S. Postal Service celebrates pickup trucks, the rugged and reliable work vehicles that Americans have driven for nearly a century. Each of the four stamps in the Pickup Trucks series features one of the following iconic models: the 1938 International Harvester D-2, the 1948 Ford F-1, the 1953 Chevrolet, and the 1965 Ford F-100. Artist Chris Lyons used Adobe Illustrator to create stylized renderings of the pickup trucks. On each stamp, the name and model year of the truck are featured in the top left corner over the words FOREVER USA. Art director Antonio Alcalá designed the stamps. Pickup Trucks is being issued as a First-Class Mail Forever booklet of 20 stamps. These Forever stamps will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce price. I ordered in these stamps to mail our newsletter and if this news letter falls under the one-ounce weight limit those of you who receive your newsletter via printed and mailed may have noticed the stamp. 6 Meeting: September 17th Our Host is none other than Bill & Carole Agard SR 471Webster, FL OK I have thought about the menu for the meeting and I have decided that I will be fixing spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread and a nice salad. But here s the catch - No Spaghetti for you if you don t RSVP! So we really need to have you RSVP. Simply or call and let us know by September 9th a week before. Remember the club makes a little money if we do it right by buying what we need for lunch, we lose if we buy too much.
