MLIT has an oprats as many as 20,000 brigs on signat stions of national highways. Th Japans roa ntwork was intnsivly vlop uring th rapi onomi growth of th 1970s, an th numbr of roa brigs has now rah approximatly 700,000 (brig lngth 2 m). As shown in Figur 1, it is prit that th numbr of brigs olr than 50 yars will aount for almost half of brigs in 15 yars.
