1 Separate Amplifier Type Digital Flow Sensor FD-V70 Series Instruction Manual SAFETY PRECAUTIS Danger Warning Danger 96M1155 Failure to follow instructions may lead to death or serious injury. Do not use the FD-V70 Series out of the specification ranges. Comply with the contents described in this instruction manual when using the product. Do not use the FD-V70 Series for applications that requires safety, such as any nuclear, railroad, aircraft, vehicle, or playground equipment. Do not modify the FD-V70 Series. The FD-V70 Series is not designed to sanitary specifications. Confirm the sanitation standards required for facilities. The FD-V70 Series is not designed to explosion-proof specifications. Do not use the product in an environment with flammable gas or something similar. Do not use the FD-V70 Series for the liquids that are corrosive to the canal materials of flow. The FD-V70 Series cannot be used as an accounting service meter. Operating Environments Use the FD-V70 Series within the detectable fluid temperature range. When using the FD-V70 Series at a low temperature, take proper anti-freezing measures. If freezing occurs, the FD-V70 Series body will become damaged, possibly resulting in leakage. Use the FD-V70 Series within the withstanding pressure range. Use the FD-V70 Series within the detectable flow rate range. Handling Do not drop the FD-V70 Series, bang it against something, or apply excessive force. Handle the product by holding its body. Do not pull heavily on the cable. Do not use a sharply pointed object to press the setting keys. Detectable Fluid Fluids such as hydrochloric acid, chloroform, and high temperature acid and alkalies can pass through the body, and can damage the sensors and circuitry. Do not use a fluid having a high penetrating property through resin. The accuracy warranted flow rate range changes depending on the kinetic viscosity of fluid. For details, see the accuracy warranted flow rate range table on page 6. 1 Wiring Danger Before wiring the FD-V70 Series, check the color of the wires. Use the FD-V70 Series within the rated range. Do not use a load that exceeds the allowable limit. Use an insulated stabilizing supply for the power supply. Do not apply excessive tensile force to the cable. Ensure that the cable tip does not soak in water during wiring work. Isolate the cable from power supply lines or power lines. Isolate the cable as far as possible from any source of noise. Piping Warning Do not install the FD-V70 Series in locations used as footholds. Arrange piping so that the flow direction agrees with the direction of the arrow indicated on the sensor body. Arrange piping so that the measuring pipe is always filled with the liquid. Arrange piping so that gas does not enter. When the liquid contains bubbles, install the FD-V70 Series in locations where it is less affected by bubbles. 1) When installing the FD-V70 Series to vertical piping, make sure that the liquid flows from the lower part to the higher one. 2) Do not install the FD-V70 Series in locations where bubbles collect. Do not install the FD-V70 Series in locations where strong compressive force, tensile force, or load is applied after its installation. Make sure that sealing tape or adhesive agent does not protrude from the threaded portion of piping. Use a straight pipe with the same diameter as the connection ring bore immediately in front and in the rear of the FD-V70 Series. Ensure that the flow is not disturbed by protruded packing or other factors. Use a pipe with a straight section that is at least 5 times longer than the bore diameter. Install the flow regulating valve or its equivalent to the downstream side of the sensor. We recommend that you provide a maintenance space around the FD-V70 Series to facilitate maintenance work. Do not install the FD-V70 Series to a piping system to which impact pressure is applied. When any foreign matter or oil exists in the pipe, clean it before installing the FD- V70 Series. When piping expands thermally, release the stress by properly arranging it, for example, by bending it. The indication may fluctuate when turbulent or pulsating flow exists, and errors may occur. Take appropriate countermeasures such as securing a straight section to ensure stable flow. Installation When force is applied to the FD-V70 Series main body during piping work, use a tool to grip the flat base at the root of the threaded portion to be arranged. Refer to the tightening torque according to the model given below. Do not apply higher torque to the sensor than specified. FD-P05/P05G FD-P/PG FD-P50/P50G FD-P100/P100G If leakage occurs as a result of piping with the torque shown above, do not perform re-tightening. Instead, check for flaws in the threaded portion or sealing tape. Do not install the FD-V70 Series in locations exposed to intense light, such as direct sunlight, or radiation from a heat source. Do not install the FD-V70 Series in locations where it may become submerged. Others Three seconds after supplying power to the FD-V70 Series is its power reset time. Do not use outputs from the sensor during this period. The speed of sequential illumination changes depending on the flow rate. If the ALARM indicator of amplifier turns on, the indicator at the tail end illuminates in red. If the flow sensor is installed in the opposite direction, measurement is disabled. Notch Protrusion Mounting screws CNECTING THE SENSOR HEAD CABLE AND POWER CABLE TO THE AMPLIFIER Sensor head cable If the cable is cut into a shorter length, install the connector as follows: Cut the cable to an appropriate length About About and strip away about 16 mm of the 16 mm 16 mm outermost insulation. Note It is not necessary to remove insulation from the core wires. Insert the cables after aligning them with the colors on the seal on top of the connector body. Press together the body and the connector cover into which the cables were inserted to make a connection. (Use a pair of pliers or similar tool to press them together.) Note Never re-use the sensor head connector that has been once press fitted. 2 Power cable Connector security ring Connector cover Connect the power cable to the right side of the amplifier. Insert the connector in the direction as shown by the arrow indicating the connector insertion direction. Insert the connector until a clicking sound is heard. Note Insert the power cable securely into the deep end of the connector. If incompletely inserted, the connector can be easily disconnected. Connector cover The sensor head cable, relay cable and power cable are equipped with the connectors respectively. After the connectors are inserted into the amplifier, lay the connector covers over the connectors. Finally, lock the root of the connector covers with the connector security rings. INSTALLATI OF SENSOR HEAD FD-P05/P05G/P/PG/P50/P50G/P100/P100G (PPS type) To install the sensor head to pipe, grip the flat base at the root of the threaded portion using a wrench and tighten the screw. If tightened by holding the body of the sensor head, the sensor head body will become damaged. *Tightening torques are shown below. Install the mounting bracket as close as possible to the sensor head main body. FD-V70A/V70AP(DIN type) Mounting to a DIN rail Align the claw at the bottom of the main body with the DIN rail. While pushing the main body in the direction of the arrow 1, slant it in the direction of the arrow 2. To dismount the sensor, raise the main body in the direction of the arrow 3 while pushing the main body in the direction of the arrow 1. Mounting to a mounting bracket Mount the sensor using the mounting bracket supplied as shown. FD-V75A/V75AP(Panel type) Amplifier Front protection cover Panel mounting bracket FD-P100/P100G 1N m INSTALLATI OF AMPLIFIER Install the amplifier main body into the hole on the panel from the rear. Face the panel mounting bracket in the direction as shown in the illustration, and mount the panel mounting bracket on the amplifier main body from the rear. Install the front protection cover in the amplifier main body. For the dimensions of cutting the panel, refer to the dimensions drawing. To dismount the panel mounting bracket, insert the flat-head ( ) screwdriver tip into the claw of the panel mounting bracket and dismount it

3 PRECAUTIS PIPING Ensuring the liquid-filled state of the pipe, and countermeasure for bubbles Arrange piping so that the measuring pipe is always filled with the liquid. Flow of liquid When a collecting pipe is used At or near the collecting pipe (branching pipe), the pulsating movements due to turbulent currents may interfere with each other. In the case of using a collecting pipe at the downstream side of the FD-V70 Series If an end of a pipe is open, the sensor head may not be filled with liquid, and bubbles or turbulent flow may occur. Be sure to install the FD-V70 Series in locations where the line pressure is ensured when the pipe is filled with liquid. Bubble If the FD-V70 Series is installed vertically where the liquid flows downward, pore space tends to be generated resulting in retention of bubbles or turbulent flow. Therefore, if the FD-V70 Series is to be installed vertically, be sure to install it where the liquid flows upward. Arrange piping so that gas will not enter it. When the liquid contains bubbles, install the FD-V70 Series in locations where it is less affected by bubbles. Bubble Bubble Ensuring a straight section Be sure to keep a straight section that is at least 5 times longer than the bore diameter immediately in front and in the rear of the FD-V70 Series. Installing the valve and thermocouple Installing the valve Install the flow regulating valve or its equivalent to the downstream side of the sensor. When a collecting pipe is used at the downstream side of the FD-V70 Series, install the valves between the FD-V70s and the collecting pipe, before the branch pipes converge in the collecting pipe, to ensure the line pressure. This decreases the effect of the pulsating movements from the confluence. In the case of using a collecting pipe at the upstream side of the FD-V70 Series The straight section should be at least 5 times longer than the bore diameter When a collecting pipe is used at the upstream side of the FD-V70 Series, install the valves between the FD-V70s and the collecting pipe, before the branch pipes converge in the collecting pipe, to ensure the line pressure. This decreases the effect of the pulsating movements from the confluence, but generates turbulent flow at the valves. Therefore, be sure to keep a straight section that is at least 5 times longer than the bore diameter. Changing the bore diameter In the case of a dilated tube at the upstream side If the tube has dilated from a narrow tube, the line pressure drastically decreases, which may generate turbulent flow or cavitations. Ensuring the line pressure by installing the valves at the downstream side of the FD-V70 Series can decrease this effect. Be sure to keep a straight section that is at least 5 times longer than the bore diameter. In the case of a narrowed tube at the downstream side If the tube has narrowed at the downstream side of the FD-V70 Series, the line pressure is ensured so that no special countermeasure is required. Be sure to keep a straight section that is at least 5 times longer than the bore diameter. In the case of a dilated tube at the downstream side Valve Valve If the valve is in the half-closed state, turbulent flow will occur. Be sure to keep a straight section that is at least 5 to times longer than the bore diameter. Installing the thermocouple If installing the thermocouple, be sure to install it at the downstream side of the sensor. Additionally, be sure to keep a straight section that is at least 5 times longer than the bore diameter. When the downstream end of the pipe is left open When the downstream end of the pipe is left open, be sure to install a valve between the FD-V70 Series and the open end in order to ensure the line pressure. If the tube is dilated, the line pressure decreases, which may generate turbulent flow or cavitations. Ensuring the line pressure by installing the valves at the downstream side of the FD-V70 Series can decrease this effect. Be sure to keep a straight section that is at least 5 times longer than the bore diameter. In the case of a narrowed tube at the upstream side If the tube has narrowed, the line pressure is ensured so that no special countermeasure is required. Be sure to keep a straight section that is at least 5 times longer than the bore diameter. Example of standard piping Ensure the line pressure by installing the valve or narrowing device at the downstream side of the FD-V70 Series. When a soft resin tube is used for piping If a soft resin tube is used for piping, it is useful to ensure the line pressure by installing the valve at the downstream side of the sensor to regulate the liquid flow in order to prevent the liquid from tube-inherent vibration. valve 3 Be sure to keep a straight section that is at least 5 times longer than the bore diameter. Installing the FD-V70 Series vertically The liquid should flow upward. Be sure to keep a straight section at the upstream side that is at least 5 times longer, or if possible times longer or more, than the bore diameter.

4 OPERATIS OF DETECTI S F-1(Upper/lower thresholds detection mode ) Sets two detection points for the P2 instantaneous flow rate as desired. The hysteresis margin can also be set. It also turns when the instantaneous flow rate drops below P1. One pulse is output for every flow quantity preset as the integration unit. (Output is inverted for every half quantity of the integration unit.) SENSOR CFIGURATI Toggling the display(display mode/configuring settings) If the sensor head of the gallon type is connected to the amplifier, the unit of the displayed value is automatically changed to gal/min. In this case, stick the unit label for gallon display supplied with the sensor head on the L/min label of the amplifier. When detection mode is F-1/F-2 Current value/setting (Configuring settings) Current value/setting(p1) or Current value/setting(p2) The upper part indicates the current value. 6 FUNCTI DESCRIPTI Analog output, free range analog Abnormality alarm output signal can be output in analog signal in the F-1 and F-2 modes. Analog output is output in the range of 4 to ma corresponding to the lower threshold (A-L) and upper threshold (A-H). A-L and A-H can be set in units of 10% full scale. Default values are A-L (0% 0 /min) and A-H (100% maximum value of the detection range). ALARM indicator/abnormality alarm output ALARM indicator ALARM indicator illuminates in the following cases. 1) Detecting path is not filled with the liquid. 2) Liquid in the measuring pipe contains bubble. 3) When ErH is displayed (sensor head is not connected, breaking) KEY LOCK Key lock disables operation of the sensor s keys. Note that switching of display remains enabled. To engage the key lock feature, press + buttons (or + button) in the display mode for about 3 seconds. The Loc indication flashes on the flow rate indicator and the key lock feature is engaged. To release the key lock feature, press + buttons (or + button) in the key locked state for about 3 seconds. The unl indication flashes on the setting value indicator and the key lock feature is released. Abnormality alarm output works together with ALARM indicator. (NPN output type only) *If the flow rate continues to increase exceeding the FFF display, the indication may fluctuate or 0 may be displayed. Troubleshooting (Other than error displays) Symptom Cause Solution Momentary flow rate indication does not change from 0 indication. Momentary flow rate indication fluctuates. Flow rate indication is smaller than actual measurement. Sensor head is connected in the reverse direction to the flow direction of liquid. Display is set in the integrated value display. Liquid kinetic viscosity is too high. Pulsating flow and turbulent flow occur. Sensor head cable is interfered by noise. Scale and other obstacles are accumulated on the liquid-contacting area. Liquid kinetic viscosity is too high. Install the flow sensor so that the arrow indicating the flow direction agrees with the flow direction of liquid. Select the momentary flow rate display. For details, see the accuracy warranted detection range table on page 7. Take corrective action for pulsating flow, turbulent flow, flow induced vibration and others. Select a slow response speed. As measurements are averaged out, indication becomes stable. Take corrective action for noise by changing routing of wires and others. Clean the liquid-contacting area of sensor.
