1 Page 1 of 6 1Search Print Date: C200B Pinpoint Test B: DTCs C1B00, C200B, C200C, U2011, U2200 And U3000: Steering Angle Sensor, Steering Shaft Torque Sensor 1, Steering Shaft Torque Sensor 2, Motor And Control Module - Failure Or Erratic rmal Operation 2014 Ford Flex 3.5L Eng VIN 8 SE The PSCM monitors various inputs and outputs of the EPAS system in order to keep the system operating at peak capacity. Information provided by sensors (steering torque, vehicle speed, vehicle travel distance, etc.) are all compared to programmed and learned information. Likewise, outputs like the motor and steering rack (travel) are tested against programmed and learned information. NOTE: If a damaged bellows boot(s) was discovered during Inspection and Verification and this pinpoint test DOES NOT lead to the installation of a new EPAS gear or bellows boot(s), then go to PINPOINT TEST K to address the damaged boot(s) before returning the vehicle to the customer. B1: CHECK FOR PREVIOUSLY SET DTCS Go to KNOWN CONCERNS. Check for DTCs listed in the appropiate information: System Related CMDTCs cleared since initial read. Are any of the following DTCs present? - PSCM DTCs C1B00:2F, C1B00:62, C200B:29, C200B:2F, C200B:61, C200B:62, U2011:61, U2200:54, U3000:41, U3000:46, U3000:49. Go to B2. Go to B2. B2: INSPECT EPAS GEAR WIRING HARNESS With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to JACKING & LIFTING. Thoroughly inspect the wire harness along the top of the EPAS gear for cuts, breaks and pinched wires.
2 Page 2 of 6 Disconnect all 3 EPAS gear electrical connectors and inspect them for corrosion, pushed-out pins, bent pins and spread terminals. Is the wire harness undamaged and are all 3 connectors in good condition? CONNECT all 3 EPAS gear electrical connectors. Go to B3. INSTALL a new EPAS gear. REPAIR whatever caused the damage to the wire harness. B3: TEST DRIVE TO CHECK FOR RETURNING DTCS NOTE: Always drive the vehicle in a safe manner according to driving conditions and obey all traffic laws. Clear the PSCM DTCs. Cycle the ignition to OFF and then back to RUN. Test drive the vehicle in the following manner: With the engine running/ready, stop the vehicle on an unsealed concrete or asphalt surface (in order to provide adequate friction for a thorough test). The test drive is complete. Press Read Vehicle Information button to retrieve DTC s from the vehicle. NOTE: DTCs may be displayed from previous diagnostic actions.
3 Page 3 of 6 Does DTC C1B00:62, C200B:29, C200B:2F, C200B:61, C200C:2F, U2011:61, U3000:41, U3000:46 and/or U3000:49 return? INSTALL a new EPAS gear. The condition to set the DTC is not present at this time. RETURN the vehicle to the customer. For all other PSCM DTCs, REFER to the appropriate PSCM DTC Index. Pinpoint Test M: DTCs C1B00, C200B, C200C, C200D, U0300, U2011, U3000 And U3004: Steering Column Mounted EPAS - Steering Angle Sensor, Steering Shaft Torque Sensor 1, Steering Shaft Torque Sensor 2, Motor And Control Module - Failure Or Erratic NOTE: This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose vehicles with steering column mounted EPAS systems only. Do not use this pinpoint test to diagnose vehicles with steering gear mounted EPAS systems. rmal Operation The power steering control module (PSCM) monitors various inputs and outputs of the electronic power assist steering (EPAS) system in order to keep the system operating at peak capacity. Information provided by sensors (steering torque, vehicle speed, vehicle travel distance, etc.) are all compared to programmed and learned information. Likewise, outputs like the motor and steering wheel position are tested against programmed and learned information. M1: CHECK FOR PREVIOUSLY SET DTCS Go to KNOWN CONCERNS. Check for DTCs listed in the appropriate information: System Related CMDTCs cleared since initial read. Are any of the following DTCs present? C1B00:2F, C1B00:61, C1B00:62, C200B:2F, C200B:61, C200B:62, C200C:2F, C200D:49, U0300:00, U2011:49, U2011:61, U3000:05, U3000:41, U3000:43, U3000:44, U3000:46, U3000:49, U3000:61, U3000:96, U3004:49. INSTALL a new EPAS column assembly. REFER to STEERING COLUMN. Go to M2.
4 Page 4 of 6 M2: FAULT CONFIRMATION Wait 90 seconds for the module to exit the active state. Ignition ON, engine OFF. Clear the PSCM DTCs. Wait 90 seconds for the module to exit the active state. Ignition ON, engine running. Test drive the vehicle in the following manner: With the engine running/ready, stop the vehicle on an unsealed concrete or asphalt surface (in order to provide adequate friction for a thorough test). The test drive is complete. Ignition ON, engine OFF. Carry out the PSCM self-test. Are DTCs C1B00-2f, C1B00-61, C1B00-62, C200B-61, C200B-62, C200B-2f, C200C- 2f, C200D-49, U0300, U , U , U3000-5, U , U , U , U , U or U present? INSTALL a new EPAS column assembly. REFER to STEERING COLUMN. The condition to set the DTC is not present at this time. RETURN the vehicle to the customer.
5 Page 5 of 6 Pinpoint Test W: DTCs C1B00, C200B And U3000: Steering Angle Sensor, Steering Shaft Torque Sensor 1 And Control Module - Signal Or Internal Failure rmal Operation The PSCM monitors various inputs and outputs of the EPAS system in order to keep the system operating at peak capacity. Information provided by sensors (steering torque, vehicle speed, vehicle travel distance, etc.) are all compared to programmed and learned information. NOTE: If a damaged bellows boot(s) was discovered during Inspection and Verification and this pinpoint test DOES NOT lead to the installation of a new EPAS gear or bellows boot(s), then go to PINPOINT TEST K to address the damaged boot(s) before returning the vehicle to the customer. W1: INSPECT EPAS GEAR WIRING HARNESS With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to JACKING & LIFTING. Thoroughly inspect the steering torque sensor wire harness along the top of the EPAS gear for cuts, breaks and pinched wires. Disconnect the EPAS gear steering torque sensor electrical connector and inspect for corrosion, pushed-out pins, bent pins and spread terminals. Is the wire harness undamaged and is the steering torque sensor electrical connector in good condition? CONNECT the steering torque sensor electrical connector. Make sure it is fully seated and the CPA tab is fully engaged and locked. Go to W2. W2: TEST DRIVE TO CHECK FOR RETURNING DTCS Test drive the vehicle for a minimum of 10 minutes. Carry out the PSCM self-test. Are any of the following PSCM DTCs present? C1B00:2F, C1B00:62, C200B:29 or U3000:49. INSTALL a new EPAS gear.
6 Page 6 of 6 INSTALL a new EPAS gear. DTC C200B: Steering Shaft Torque Sensor 1 Description The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. For all other PSCM DTCs, REFER to the appropriate PSCM DTC Index. The PSCM continually monitors the steering shaft torque sensor when the ignition is ON and the voltage supply to the PSCM is above 6 volts. DTC C200B:2F (Steering Shaft Torque Sensor 1: Signal Erratic) If the steering shaft torque sensor signal is outside the expected range, then DTC C200B:2F will be set. DTC C200B:61 (Steering Shaft Torque Sensor 1: Signal Calculation Failure) - If the steering shaft torque sensor signal is not within a certain threshold, then DTC C200B:61 will be set. DTC C200B:62 (Steering Shaft Torque Sensor 1: Signal Compare Failure) - If the steering shaft torque sensor signal does not match other sensor input, then DTC C200B:62 will be set. Possible Causes Steering gear internal failure Diagnostic Aids When any of these DTCs are set the PSCM will remove steering assist, enter into a manual mode and transmit an invalid steering column torque message over the HS-CAN bus. The PSCM will send a message to the IPC to display the POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT message in the message center. Failure 2F Action GO to PINPOINT TEST B 61 GO to PINPOINT TEST B 62 GO to PINPOINT TEST B
