Power Locks The SJB controls the power lock/unlock feature of all of the vehicle doors, including the liftgate, to lock or unlock based on the input received from the door lock control switch, the keyless entry keypad or the remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter. Power locking and unlocking of the doors function independently of the key position, vehicle speed or transmission position. The SJB activates internal relays to supply the correct voltage and grounds for the door lock actuators. The liftgate window glass is released, using the keyless entry keypad or the RKE transmitter, and does not operate if the vehicle speed is greater than 5 km/h (3 mph), the battery is disconnected and then reconnected, or if the module is disconnected and then reconnected causing the liftgate window glass release switch to enter the disable mode. The liftgate window glass release switch is reset by unlocking all the doors. Autolock The autolock feature locks all the doors when all the doors, including the liftgate, are closed, after the brake pedal is pressed, and the vehicle speed exceeds 20 km/h (12 mph) or higher for a minimum of 2 seconds. This feature also relocks the doors (if any doors were open) after the brake pedal is pressed, once the SJB receives door closed inputs from all door ajar switches and vehicle speed exceeds 20 km/h (12 mph) for a minimum of 2 seconds. The autolock feature can be enabled/disabled through module configuration, the ignition switch, the message center (if equipped) and the keyless entry keypad. The autolock feature also uses inputs from the key position, the stoplamp switch and vehicle speed through the controller area network (CAN) from the ABS module. Auto-Unlock The auto-unlocking feature unlocks all the doors when all of the following conditions are met:

3 Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems all the doors are closed the key is in the run position and the vehicle was in motion at a speed greater than 20 km/h (12 mph) for a minimum of 2 seconds since the last key start. Then the vehicle comes to a stop and the key is turned to the OFF or ACCY position the driver door is opened within 10 minutes of the key being turned to the OFF or ACCY position The doors do not auto-unlock if: the doors are locked using the door lock control switches. the doors are locked with the keyless entry keypad or the RKE transmitter within 10 minutes of turning the key to the ACC or OFF position. 10 minutes elapse and the driver door is not opened. Smart Unlock The smart unlock feature prevents the driver door from locking the vehicle with the key in the ignition lock cylinder. When the SJB receives a lock command from a door lock control switch, and the key is in the ignition lock cylinder (with the key in any position) with the one of the front doors open, the SJB commands the driver door to unlock. Anti-Scan Feature To provide added security, the keyless entry keypad is disabled for 1 minute after 35 button presses without a valid entry code being entered. The keyless entry keypad flashes during this 1-minute mode with all functionality disabled except for 7/8 and 9/0 still being allowed to lock the vehicle. Anti-Scan is turned off after 1 minute of keyless entry keypad inactivity. Unlocking the Doors and Liftgate with the Keyless Entry Keypad To unlock the driver door, enter either the factory set code or a personal code; each digit must be pressed within 5 seconds of the prior digit. The interior lamps illuminate. To unlock all doors, enter either the factory set code or a personal code (driver door unlocks) and press the 3/4 control within 5 seconds. To open the liftgate window glass, enter the factory set code or a personal code (driver door unlocks) and press the 5/6 control within 5 seconds. Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Lock/Unlock Control Unlock The RKE transmitter feature provides lock/unlock functions independently of key position, vehicle speed, or transmission position. The RKE transmitter feature provides a 2-step process, if enabled, for unlocking the doors. Upon receipt of the first request for unlocking the doors, the RKE control feature requests the SJB to unlock the driver door only. If another unlock request is received within 3 seconds of the first, the RKE transmitter feature requests the SJB to unlock all the doors. This feature can be disabled so that all the doors unlock on the first press of the UNLOCK button. Refer to Stepped Unlock Programming in this section for programming information. Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Lock/Unlock Control Lock The RKE transmitter feature requests that all the doors be locked when the lock button is pressed. On any press of the lock button with all doors closed, the SJB provides 1 flash of the parking lamps. If any door is ajar, no flash occurs. As soon as the last door is closed, the SJB provides the flash of the parking lamps. If 2 presses of the lock button are received within 3 seconds, the horn chirps once, and the parking lamps flash twice to indicate that all the doors are closed and locked. If any door is ajar when the second lock request is received within 3 seconds of the first, the RKE transmitter feature requests the SJB chirp the horn twice without flashing the parking lamps to indicate it locked all the doors but 1 or more doors are ajar. When the key is in the ON or START position, the parking lamp flashes and horn chirp confirmations do not occur. Panic Alarm The panic alarm feature provides audible and visual alarms which are evident from the exterior of the vehicle. The panic alarm feature requests that the parking lamps are flashed and the horn sounds until deactivation. The flashing of the outputs occurs simultaneously. Activation of the panic alarm is accomplished by pressing the panic button on an RKE transmitter whenever the key is in the OFF or ACC positions. At all other times this feature is disabled. Deactivation of an active PANIC alarm is accomplished by any of the following actions: a second press of the RKE transmitter panic button. the key is switched out of the OFF or ACC position. a period of 2 minutes and 45 seconds has elapsed since the initial activation. Keyless Entry Keypad The keyless entry keypad, located on the exterior of the driver door, provides a method for customers to access their vehicle without a key or RKE transmitter. The keyless entry keypad feature: locks all doors. unlocks only the driver door. unlocks all doors. programs/erases the customer key codes. enables/disables auto-unlocking enables/disables autolocking. releases the liftgate window glass.

4 Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems The keyless entry keypad feature operates independently of key position status, vehicle speed, or transmission position. When a keyless entry keypad button is pressed, the keyless entry keypad buttons illuminate to provide better visibility. If the lock all doors command is entered or 5 seconds have elapsed since the last button press, the illumination is turned off. Each vehicle equipped with an keyless entry keypad is programmed with a 5-digit entry code. This code is provided to the customer through a wallet card in the Owner's Literature package. In addition, this code is available through a scan tool and is also printed on the SJB label. When entering codes each digit must be entered within 5 seconds of the previous button press. Locking the Doors with the Keyless Entry Keypad It is not necessary to enter the factory set or personal code prior to locking all doors. To lock all doors, press the 7/8 and 9/0 controls at the same time. Inspection and Verification 1. Verify the customer concern. 2. Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step. 4. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC). 5. NOTE: The vehicle communication module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms voltage and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM. If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM: Check the connection to the vehicle. Refer to Section to diagnose no communication with the scan tool. 6. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle: Verify the ignition key is in the ON position. Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle. Refer to Section to diagnose no response from the PCM. 7. Carry out the network test. If the scan tool responds with no communication for multiple modules, refer to Section If the scan tool responds with no communication with the SJB, refer to Section If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs. 8. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the SJB. 9. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to Smart Junction Box (SJB) DTC Chart. For all other DTCs, refer to Section If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to Symptom Chart. Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 117, Remote Keyless Entry and Alarm for schematic and connector information. rmal Operation The door lock control switches provide a ground, circuit GD133 (BK) or circuit GD151 (BK/GN) for the smart junction box (SJB) lock and unlock signal circuits CPL42 (GY/YE) and CPL43 (VT/GY). The door lock actuator circuits CPL11 (GY/BN), CPL51 (BU/GN) and CPL52 (VT/GY) are at ground potential in the SJB when the lock and unlock relays are not energized. When the SJB receives a lock request through circuit CPL42 (GY/YE), the SJB processes the lock request and energizes the all lock relay, supplying voltage to circuit CPL11 (GY/BN) to lock the doors. Circuits CPL51 (BU/GN) and CPL52 (VT/GY) are at ground potential within the SJB. When the SJB receives an unlock request through circuit CPL43 (VT/GY), the SJB processes the unlock request and energizes the all unlock relay and driver unlock relay supplying voltage to circuits CPL52 (VT/GY) and CPL51 (BU/GN) to unlock the doors. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector. A1 A2 A3 A4 CHECK THE DOOR LATCH FOR BINDING Lock and unlock the inoperative door lock using the door lock rod. Does the door lock and unlock? CHECK THE LOCK ROD FOR BINDING Operate the door lock rod manually while observing the door lock rod for any binding or if the rod is bent. Is the door lock rod bent or binding? CHECK THE PASSENGER DOOR LOCKS Check the passenger door locks. Are all of the passenger door locks inoperative? CHECK CIRCUIT CPL52 (VT/GY) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Right Front Door Lock Actuator C603. Disconnect: SJB C2280a. Measure the resistance between the right front door lock actuator C603-2, circuit CPL52 (VT/GY), harness side and the SJB C2280a-1, circuit CPL52 (VT/GY), harness side. GO to A3. GO to A2. REPAIR as necessary. TEST the system for normal INSTALL a new door latch. REFER to Front Door Latch, Rear Door Latch or Liftgate Latch in this section. TEST the system for normal GO to A4. GO to A5. A5 A6 Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? CHECK THE DRIVER DOOR LOCK Check to see if the driver door lock is the inoperative lock. Is the driver door lock inoperative? CHECK THE DRIVER DOOR LOCK CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Driver Door Lock Actuator C525. While pressing a door lock control switch to the LOCK or UNLOCK position, measure the voltage between the driver door lock actuator C525-2, circuit CPL51 (BU/GN), harness side and the driver door lock actuator C525-1, circuit CPL11 (GY/BN), harness side. GO to A10. REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal GO to A6. GO to A8. INSTALL a new driver door lock actuator. REFER to Front Door Lock Actuator in this section. TEST the system for normal

A8 Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? CHECK CIRCUIT CPL52 (VT/GY) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Suspect Door Latch. Disconnect: SJB C2280a. Measure the resistance between the suspect door lock actuator and the SJB as follows: GO to A9. REPAIR the circuit. If the inoperative lock is the RH front door lock, the LH rear door lock, the RH rear door lock or the liftgate lock, INSTALL a new door lock actuator. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Liftgate Latch Actuator in this section. TEST the system for normal REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Section TEST the system for normal The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal Pinpoint Test B: All Door Locks Are Inoperative Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 110, Power Door Locks for schematic and connector information. Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 117, Remote Keyless Entry and Alarm for schematic and connector information. rmal Operation The door lock control switches provide a ground, circuit GD133 (BK) or circuit GD151 (BK/GN) for the smart junction box (SJB) lock and unlock signal circuits CPL42 (GY/YE) and CPL43 (VT/GY). The door lock actuator circuits CPL11 (GY/BN), CPL51 (BU/GN) and CPL52 (VT/GY) are at ground potential in the SJB when the lock and unlock relays are not energized. When the SJB receives a lock request through circuit CPL42 (GY/YE), the SJB processes the lock request and energizes the all lock relay, supplying voltage to circuit CPL11 (GY/BN) to lock the doors. Circuits CPL51 (BU/GN) and CPL52 (VT/GY) are at ground potential within the SJB. When the SJB receives an unlock request through circuit CPL43 (VT/GY), the SJB processes the unlock request and energizes the all unlock relay and driver unlock relay supplying voltage to circuits CPL52 (VT/GY) and CPL51 (BU/GN) to unlock the doors. Circuit CPL11 (GY/BN) is at ground potential within the SJB. The keyless entry keypad uses circuits CPK29 (GY/BU), CPK29 (GY/BU) and CPK31 (YE/GN) to send signals to the SJB by grounding the selected circuit through the keyless entry keypad on circuit RPK27 (BU). The SJB locks or unlocks the doors based on keyless entry keypad input. DTC B2695 is an on-demand DTC that sets if the SJB detects a short to ground on the keyless entry keypad switch input circuit CPK29 (GY/BU). DTC B2696 is an on-demand DTC that sets if the SJB detects a short to ground on the keyless entry keypad switch input circuit CPK30 (VT/GN). DTC B2697 is an on-demand DTC that sets if the SJB detects a short to ground on the keyless entry keypad switch input circuit CPK31 (YE/GN). Observe the TNSMTR_ID PID while pressing any button on the RKE transmitter. Is the transmitter ID code (TIC) displayed when a button is pressed? CHECK IF THE RKE TRANSMITTERS ARE PROGRAMMED Observe the TNSMTR_ID PID displayed in the previous step. Does the TIC displayed match any of the TICs stored in memory? CHECK THE RKE TRANSMITTER BATTERY Open the RKE transmitter. Do not clean off any grease from the battery terminal on the back surface of the circuit board. Verify the correct battery is being used (CR2032). Remove the RKE transmitter battery and measure the voltage. Is the voltage greater than 2.5 volts? GO to H5. GO to H7. GO to H6. GO to H7. GO to H8. 21 Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems PINPOINT TEST H: THE DOORS DO NOT LOCK/UNLOCK USING THE REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) TRANSMITTER (Continued) H10 CHECK THE SJB FOR CORRECT OPERATION (Continued) pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? in this section. INFORM the customer that any RKE transmitters not present need to be programmed. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. Pinpoint Test I: The Keyless Entry Keypad Illumination Is Inoperative Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 117, Remote Keyless Entry and Alarm for schematic and connector information. rmal Operation When any keypad button is pressed the smart junction box (SJB) sends power for the keyless entry keypad illumination on circuit CPK28 (WH/GN) to assist the driver in entering an access code at night. The keyless entry keypad illumination is grounded on circuit GD133 (BK). Circuit CPK28 (GN/BK) (keyless entry keypad) open or short to ground Circuit CPK28 (WH) (SJB) open or short to ground Circuit GD133 (BK) open Keyless entry keypad PINPOINT TEST I: THE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD ILLUMINATION IS INOPERATIVE NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector. I1 I2 CHECK THE SJB KEYPAD SWITCH PIDs Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB PIDs. Observe the SJB KEY_PAD PID while pressing each keyless entry keypad button. Do the PID values agree with the keypad button positions? CHECK THE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD ILLUMINATION Ignition OFF. Disconnect: SJB C2280a. Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the SJB C2880a-18, circuit CPK28 (WH), harness side and the battery positive terminal. GO to I2. GO to Pinpoint Test G. REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to I5. I3 Does the keyless entry keypad illuminate? CHECK CIRCUIT GD133 (BK) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Keyless Entry Keypad C500. Measure the resistance between the keyless entry keypad C500-5, circuit GD133 (BK), harness side and ground. REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to I3. GO to I4.
