Verify AZ/EL Assembly Alignment Aligning the Azimuth The AZ/EL assembly consists of the Tube Canister, Azimuth Plate, Azimuth Base, and Elevation Bracket. 1. After unpacking the assembly, make sure that the square hole of the Azimuth Plate is centered in the arched hole of the Azimuth Base, by removing the fourth 5/16 x ¾ inch carriage bolt ViaSat, Inc. 2 (continued) 2. Verify that the tap bolt of the Fine Azimuth Adjustment assembly is flush to the outside wall of the Azimuth Base and the washer and hex nuts inside the base form a lock. 3. Adjust if necessary then reinsert the carriage bolt through the Azimuth Base and Plate, then secure it with a 5/16 inch UNC washer, 5/16 inch spring washer, and a 5/16 inch hex nut. So that the assembly will stay aligned, hand-tighten all four of the hex nuts that connect the assembly. Important! The alignment of the Fine Azimuth Adjustment assembly is critical. If the Fine Adjustment is misaligned, it may not be possible to adjust the Azimuth to the satellite. Elevation Gauge Adjustment The following information provides the steps used to set the antenna elevation prior to assembly. 1. Loosen the 5/16 inch UNC serrated flange nuts on the 5/16 x 3/4 inch UNC carriage bolts in the arched slots at the bottom sides of the Elevation Bracket. The Elevation Bracket should move freely. Retrieve the elevation angle from the subscriber s installation order. Use the Elevation Gauge on the side of the Elevation Bracket to adjust the angle of the bracket as close to the desired angle as possible. Tighten the 5/16 inch UNC serrated flange nuts until the Elevation Bracket cannot move ViaSat, Inc. Page 2 of 9

To prevent damaging the Fine Elevation Assembly Rod, screw the adjuster onto the rod until the distance between the top of the rod and the adjuster is approximately the distance between the Elevation Bracket and the Azimuth Base.* (see Graphic left) Note: While each installation will be unique, this distance will be generally the same within a general area. Note his measurement to speed up future pre-assemblies. Warning! Do not break the rod. Breaking the rod will prevent fine elevation adjustment on the antenna. 3. Position the Fine Elevation Assembly in between the two flanges on the back of the Azimuth Base on the AZ/EL assembly so that the adjuster base is on the outside of the assembly. Pass a 5/6 X 2 inch UNC hex head tap bolt through the Azimuth Base s right flange, through the Fine Elevation Assembly, and through the Azimuth Base s left flange, then hand-tighten with a 5/16 inch UNC washer and hex nut ViaSat, Inc. Rotate the rod upward and place top of the rod on the left side of the flange at the top of the Elevation Bracket, aligning the holes.* Pass a 1/4 X 1/2 inch UNC hex head tap bolt through the Elevation Bracket hole, then the Adjustment Rod hole (from right to left). Secure this tap bolt with a 1/4 UNC inch washer and hex nut, then hand-tighten. Note: If the holes are un-aligned, do not try to force the rod into place. Use the Fine Elevation Adjuster Base to shorten or lengthen the rod to align the holes. Antenna Back Bracket Assembly The following information provides the steps used to build the Antenna Back Bracket Assembly. 1. Construct the Back Bracket Assembly by fastening the Skew Plate to the front of the Elevation Bracket, through the antenna back bracket. 2. Pass four 5/16 x ¾ inch UNC carriage bolts through the skew plate, then the antenna back bracket and, finally, through the front of the elevation bracket ViaSat, Inc. Page 4 of 9

5 (continued) 3. Secure the Skew Plate using a 5/16 inch UNC washer, spring washer, and a hex nut on each carriage bolt. 4. Important! Use the skew gauge on the side of the back bracket to adjust the skew pointer at 90-degrees and tighten the nuts to seat it place ViaSat, Inc. Page 5 of 9

6 Antenna Boom Arm Assembly 2005 ODU Assembly Job Aid The following information provides the steps used to build the Antenna Boom Arm Assembly. 1. Slide the Sub-reflector feet over the ends of the Boom Arms that do not have notches. 2. Insert a 1/4" UNC serrated Flange Nut into the encapsulation cut out on top of each Sub-reflector foot making sure that the Flange Nut is in between the Boom Arm and the top of Sub-reflector foot. 3. For each foot, place a 1/4" UNC Washer and Spring Washer onto a 1/4" x 1-1/4" UNC Hex Head Tap Bolt, then insert the bolt through the bottom of the Sub-reflector foot into the Flange Nut and tighten. 4. Finally, slide the notched ends of the Boom Arms into the flanges at the back of the slots on the bottom of the Antenna Back Bracket, aligning the screw holes. 5. From the bottom of the Back Bracket, insert one 1/4" x 3/4" UNC Hex Head Tap Bolt into each of the four screw holes and tighten. Important! Do not over-tighten the screws. Doing so could crush the Boom Arm and cause the Subreflector to be misaligned ViaSat, Inc. Page 6 of 9

7 Antenna TRIA Attachment 2005 ODU Assembly Job Aid The following information provides the steps used to build the Antenna TRIA Attachment. The antenna TRIA is mounted under the Boom Arms. To assure that the TRIA is located in the correct location to receive the signal from the Sub-reflector, use the spacers included in the TRIA Mounting Hardware kit. Important! Post the serial number of the TRIA on the appropriate form. The serial number is used during the Satellite Modem Provisioning process. Modem provisioning fails if this number is missing. 1. Locate the TRIA and the TRIA Mounting Kit. Insert the four #10-32 x 2 1/4" UNC Phillips Head Bolts into the holes in the Boom Arms and then through the Transceiver Spacers. 2. Align the bolts with the mounting holes on the top of the Transceiver and tighten. Important! Do not over-tighten the screws. Doing so could crush the Boom Arm and cause the Sub-reflector to be misaligned. Important! Never attach the main reflector to the base assembly before transporting to the customer s site. Doing so may damage the main reflector ViaSat, Inc. Page 7 of 9

8 Mounting the Antenna Base-Assembly 2005 ODU Assembly Job Aid The following information reviews the general mounting Antenna On-site Assembly process. 1. Slide the Tube Canister onto the top of the Mount Tube or Pole Adapter. 2. Secure in place using three 5/16 x 1 UNC Carriage Bolts and three 5/16 UNC Serrate Flange Nuts in each of the holes in the Tube Canister flanges, then hand-tighten the Flange Nuts. Installing the Antenna Elliptical Dish The following information reviews the general mounting process for installing the Antenna Transmit/Receive Elliptical Dish on the Antenna Pre-assembly. 1. Place the dish in the antenna back bracket rim slot 2. Align the five holes in the dish with the holes in the bracket flanges. 3. Fasten the elliptical dish to antenna back bracket using five 1/4 x ¾ inch UNC flat head carriage bolts inserted through the front of the dish and through the five tabs located on the rim of the antenna back bracket ViaSat, Inc.
