1 Product Bulletin No Laboratory Ball Valves Ten years ago, WaterSaver introduced the first ball valve designed specifically for use in scientific laboratories. The L4200 valve was intended as an alternative to the traditional ground key cock valve. Like the ground key cock valve (such as the L2900 and L2960), the laboratory ball valve is a quarter turn valve for on/off control of laboratory gases. The quarter turn actuation provides a visual indication of whether the valve is in the open or closed position. However, the laboratory ball valve offers significant advantages over a ground key cock, including higher pressure ratings, longer service life and certification for natural gas service. In addition, the ball valve can be used for a wide array of laboratory gases, including special gases such as nitrogen, helium and oxygen. The ground key cock valve can only be used for natural gas, air and vacuum. WaterSaver is committed to the continuous improvement of our product line. As the latest expression of this commitment, we have completely redesigned our laboratory ball valve. The redesigned valve offers all of the advantages of the older valve, plus a higher flow capacity and more attractive styling. Product Features Lever handle is available in black nylon (standard), color-coded nylon or forged brass. The handle requires less than 5 foot-pounds to actuate, making the valve ideal for ADA applications. As before, the valve incorporates a chrome plated brass ball and molded Teflon seals. Valve is certified for use with natural gas by the Canadian Standards Association under ANSI Z /CGA9.1-M97. Valve body has been changed from bar stock to a brass forging for sleeker, more attractive styling. Condensed Specifications To specify the new laboratory ball valve by construction, please use the following language: Laboratory ball valves shall have a forged brass valve body, a removable ten serration hose end and a [black nylon] [color-coded nylon] [forged brass]* lever-type handle with a full view color-coded index disc. Valves shall have a floating chrome plated brass ball and molded TFE seals.
