SIDE SHIT CASE BINDER GRADER ILE SECTION 2 4/74 THESE INSTRUCTIONS APPLY TO SERVICING THE SIDE SHIT CASE ASSEMBLY AS USED ON CURRENT GALlON MOTOR GRADERS. I SIDE SHIT CASE MUST BE PROPERLY SUPPORTED DURING JACKING, HOISTING AND GENERAL WORKSHOP EQUIPMENT REQUIRED OR THIS OPERATION MUST BE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. 3 GAUON ROLtfRS GRAD RS CR~S SHOP MANUAL ILE SIDE SHIT CASE ASSEMBLY In recent years, three models of side shift case assemblies have been used. This section covers the current side shift case. In most instances, it will basically model s. apply to the earlier DISASSEMBLY Remove side shift case cover and gas ket. Old side shift case covers (1) were die cast. The new side shift covers are die stamped (2). I ~q~ igure 1 Remove lock nut and press shaft and arm assembly from worm gear. l igure 2

Remove side shift worm shaft cotter pin and nut. Remove input worm bearing cap (1) and shims. -2- igure 5

CR)J~f S SHOP MANUAL ILE Remove side shift worm shaft bearing adjusting cap and shims. igure 6 Press side shift worm shaft (1) toward bearing adjusting cap end (arrow) far enough to remove worm gear (2). NOTE: The worm gear housing bushing must be replaced because it will be damaged by the woodruff key when shaft is pressed out of gear. igure 7 Remove input worm and bearings. Inspect bearing cup (1). igure 8

Current shafts (2) are of one piece construction. igure 13 Inspect shift case bushings (1). elt seal (2) should be replaced at time of assembly. 5 igure 14

Decrease stack of shims by to Install bearing cap. Install woodruff key worm shaft. in side shift 7- igure 20

MANUAL gear (2) on shaft (1) over ILE C- Install nut and cotter pin. igure 21 Install bearing adjusting cap and shims to obtain zero endplay. enough ( igure 22 Install worm housing cover and gasket. Remove the top capscrew of housing cover and pump lubricant into grease fitting until the lube flows out the cap screw hole. (See ile J, Section 1 for Lubrication Specifications). Replace and install lock nut. Torque to 1450 ft. lbs. ~1 igure 25 ill case with proper lubricant (as specified in Shop Manual ile J, Section 1). Old side shift cases are to be filled with multi-purpose lithium base grease (Table Q). Current cases are to be filled with semi-~fluid gear lubricant (Table P). Install case cover and gasket. Remove the top cap screw in the case cover and pump lubricant into grease fitting until the lube flows out the cap screw hole. -9- igure 26
