1 Personal Restraint Hydraulic Lock "LE" for passenger restraint systems

2 Description The LE locking system was developed specifically for installation in seats in amusement park rides and mobile structures. It is a closed hydraulic system and is used to lock the passenger restraint systems (e.g. shoulder restraints) of amusement rides. HOERBIGER locking systems allow infinitely variable closing of the shoulder bar and therefore provide optimal adaptation to passengers of all sizes. The system may be locked in any selected position. In addition, the restraint mechanism using HOERBIGER LE locking systems can be opened again automatically. Opening the safety bar uses the energy stored in the accumulator during the closing procedure. This value has been selected so that the locking system can open the safety bar when the nonreturn valve is operated. The accumulator pressure is not safety-related in this case. Hydraulic system advantage Unlike mechanically latching systems, the hydraulic unit can offer infinitely variable positioning of the bar. Maximum flexibility to accommodate passenger body size and girth. Reduced installation space permits novel seat designs due to the extremely compact dimensions of the locking system. Manual emergency operation permits opening the bar even during failure of the control current. Silent bar adjustment causes less irritation of the passenger, thus providing a safer feeling. Increased safety through significantly lower wear compared to ratchet systems, for example. No additional gas springs, spring systems or pneumatic drives required to open the bar. Two units per seat can be employed for redundancy. Connection block: Accommodates a diaphragm accumulator, an electromechanically piloted or manually operated check valve as well as measurement ports. Diaphragm accumulator: Precharges the unit to a predefined pressure and accepts the oil volume displaced by the piston rod during retraction. Check valve: Allows oil flow only in one direction, blocks the flow in the other direction. Oil flow is possible in both directions by electromechanical activation during normal operation or manual activation in an emergency. Minimess connectors: Used to fill the unit during installation. 4 Type differentiation The selection of the LE type to be used is based upon the seat type and bar kinematics Type A use Block extension (frequently used for shoulder restraint seating systems) In the initial position, the cylinder piston rod is extended. The passenger restraint mechanism (e.g. bar) is open and retained in this position by the pretensioning of the locking system. The passengers can get on board. Once the cylinder is retracted when the bar kinematics close, an electrically piloted check valve then prevents the cylinder from extending. The bar remains closed. This is the condition during travel. The ride can now start. Once the vehicle returns to the station, the piston rod extends due to the differing surface sizes (piston to piston ring), and this automatically opens the bar. Now the initial state of the locking system is restored. The bar opens again. The passengers can get off. Type E use Block retraction (frequently used for lap restraint seating systems) In the initial position, the cylinder piston rod is extended. The passenger restraint mechanism is generally closed and retained in this position by the pretensioning of the locking system. The electrically piloted check valve prevents retraction of the cylinder. The bar remains closed despite force exertion by the passenger in the open direction. The piston rod can be retracted and the restraint system opened only by electrically actuating the check valve. To accomplish this, the force created by the different effective surfaces in the piston chamber and piston rod chamber must be overcome. Once the passengers have gotten on board, the electrical current is lifted and the locking unit is blocked in the opening direction; the ride can now start. Note: If an automatic opening function should be guaranteed for this installation situation, then this functionality can be implemented by using additional springs, for example. AAT4MF0AE

5 Type B use Block against extension and comfort adjustment (frequently used for shoulder restraint seating systems) In the initial position, the cylinder piston rod is extended. The passenger restraint mechanism (e.g. bar) is open and retained in this position by the pretensioning of the locking system. The passengers can get on board. A block at both ends prevents the cylinder from retracting even under additional load. Passengers can hold on to the bar to make boarding and exiting easier. The piston rod can be inserted only after valve V (pos. 8) is operated. Once the cylinder is retracted when the bar kinematics close, an electrically piloted check valve then prevents the cylinder from extending. The bar remains closed. This is the state during travel. The ride can now start. Once the vehicle returns to the station, the piston rod extends when valve V1 is operated; this is due to the differing surface sizes (piston to piston ring), resulting in the bar opening automatically. Now the initial state of the locking system is restored. The bar opens again. The passengers can get off. AAT4MF0AE
