3 OPTI-MAX CARTRIDGES: A UNIVERSAL SOLUTION A single OPTI-MAX cartridge is interchangeable across multiple pump brands, and will function in either the inlet or outlet position. The same OPTI-MAX cartridge will fit into OPTI-MAX housings for pumps made by Waters, Shimadzu, Agilent/HP, and most other OEM solvent delivery systems. This allows you to minimize the number of spare check valve cartridges you keep on hand, and dramatically reduce the cost of inventory required to cover your emergency maintenance needs. the same OPTI-MAX cartridge can be used with many different HPLC systems, in either the inlet or outlet position OPTI-MAX Free-Turn housings can be removed with the tubing still attached, speeding check valve maintenance and reducing fitting wear. FREE-TURNTM HOUSINGS: AN OPTIMIZE INNOVATION Most of our OPTI-MAX check valve housings are supplied in a Free-Turn configuration - the thread that tightens the housing into a pump head spins independently from the inner housing body, where the connecting tubing and cartridge join the housing. This allows you to remove a check valve housing without having to first disconnect the connecting tubing. With OPTI-MAX, you can completely replace a check valve cartridge in less than two minutes! Most OPTI-MAX check valve housings now feature the Free-Turn design. To see if they are available for your system, look for the Free-Turn logo next to OPTI-MAX listings for your HPLC. A CHOICE OF MATERIALS OPTI-MAX cartridges are available in several different sizes and combinations of body and ball/seat materials, all manufactured and leak-tested to meet the same high standard of performance. CARTRIDGE MATERIAL OPTIONS stainless steel cartridge PEEK cartridge ceramic ball & seat ceramic ball w/sapphire seat When mechanical strength is paramount and biocompatibility is not a requirement, stainless steel cartridges are the best choice. Use PEEK cartridges for biocompatible HPLC systems with non-metallic flowpaths, for high temperature applications, and with high percentages of THF. Advantageous in some situations due to its higher density, which can make the valve more responsive, and help the ball seat faster in lighter solvents. The classic ball and seat combination - each pair matched to the same exacting standards as our ceramic ball/seat sets. CARTRIDGE MATERIAL CODES The first middle digit specifies ball size. For better performance at microbore flow rates, microbore (1/16 ) cartridges can be substituted for the standard (1/8 ) size. High flow (3/16 ) cartridges are not interchangeable with the other two sizes. The second middle digit denotes cartridge and ball/seat material - modify this digit if you want to order a different cartridge material combination. 4 seals & pistons keep your HPLC system running smoothly with replacement piston seals and sapphire pistons from optimize technologies Optimize offers replacement sapphire pistons and piston seals for a wide selection of OEM solvent delivery systems. Our piston seals are available in a choice of two versatile polymers, allowing you to select the optimal seal material for your operating conditions. OPTI-SEAL piston seals are the longest lasting seals you can buy for use in mostly aqueous/aqueous buffered mobile phases. Made from a proprietary UHMW-polyethylene-based material, OPTI-SEALs are more resistant to abrasion and wear than traditional PTFE-based seals. ITB TM piston seals are a superior choice to most OEM PTFE blended seals. Our proprietary PTFE-based Improved Teflon Blend (ITB) TM is designed to shed particles large enough to be trapped at the surface of 2 µm frits, not embedded within them. ITB seals are the best choice for use in mobile phases with high organic content, or when the broadest possible solvent compatibility is required. Optimize sapphire pistons offer optimal concentricity and resistance to wear. The angle at which sapphire rods are cut in relation to the grain of the crystal lattice has a large effect on the durability and strength of the finished product. This cut angle is tightly controlled during the machining process, resulting in a piston with maximal resistance to breakage and superior wear characteristics. Our sapphire rods are attached to ferrules using a proprietary process that provides maximum control over concentricity, an important parameter that has a direct effect on seal lifetime. By design, pistons and seals are subject to wear during normal HPLC pump operation, and will require periodic replacement. To maintain peak system performance and prevent unplanned downtime, piston seals should be routinely replaced every three to six months, particularly for mission-critical systems. Sapphire pistons should be inspected at six month intervals, although yearly or as-needed replacement is appropriate under most operating conditions.
