1 Nissan Ireland Cedar House Park West Business Park Nangor Road, Dublin 12 Product Campaign Bulletin REFERENCE: MODEL: PCB-NES J10 & J10+2 Qashqai SUBJECT: PCB J10 - PG2B9 and PS2B7- Steering wheel boss Campaign INTRODUCTION; A potential concern affecting the steering wheel of some Nissan Qashqai, Qashqai+2 (J10) & NV200 (M20) vehicles has been identified. The steering wheel boss which is connected to the steering column may not have the appropriate strength. In this condition, if a load is applied to the steering wheel which is higher than the load applied during normal steering operation, the boss may separate from the steering column resulting in a loss of steering. DEALER RESPONSIBILITY The dealer shall identify all outstanding vehicles using the enews campaign enquiry function and perform the repair according to the procedure provided within this bulletin. Mandatory Requirements Confirm all outstanding campaigns on the affected vehicles irrespective of the reason the vehicle has entered the dealership. Ensure all outstanding recall and service campaigns (excluding warranty extensions) are completed on a vehicle s first visit to the dealer. Rectify any vehicles identified as outstanding that are in inventory stock. This campaign includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners. 4 REPAIR PROCEDURE Removal of driver's airbag module 1 Before commencing repair procedure set vehicle wheels to the straight ahead position and switch ignition off. 2 Note the audio system presets and then open hood and disconnect battery positive & negative clamp terminals. CAUTION: Wait a further 3 minutes after disconnection of vehicle battery until commencing removal of driver's airbag module from centre of steering wheel. 3 Working from within passenger compartment, identify the left hand and right hand retaining clip access holes in steering wheel rear cover. 4 A blunt ended tool of maximum 5.0mm diameter (e.g. long parallel pin punch, blunt end of drill bit, etc) is required to release locating clips of driver's airbag module.

5 5 Insert tool into hole of steering wheel rear cover and release (in turn) left hand and right hand metal spring clip of driver's airbag module. 6 Pull each side of driver's airbag module assembly away from steering wheel to allow metal spring clip to release from retaining bracket. CAUTION: Due to pyrotechnic nature of driver's airbag module, always work from the side of driver's airbag module. Never work directly in front of it. 7 The location of the metal spring clip and retaining bracket is highlighted in the below images. The blunt end of tool is used to release the metal spring clips that can be seen in the images and the diagram below explains how the tool is applied to release the clips. metal spring clips blunt ended tool retaining bracket Vehicle front steering wheel rear Tool Bracket Unclip X Bracket Air bag module Caution: Incorrect positioning of blunt ended tool may prevent driver's airbag module from being unclipped. Insert blunt ended tool into hole of steering wheel rear cover. Ensure that tool engages with edge of clip protruding to rear of retaining bracket. Push on tool to move clip sideways to clear bracket. Pull drivers airbag module forward to allow clip to remain fully released from retaining bracket Repeat for opposite side.

6 8 Once airbag module is unclipped, temporarily support it to one side of steering wheel centre whilst the electrical harness connections to spiral cable assembly are released. Use fine screwdriver (or similar tool) to depress tab on side of white electrical connectors and detach connectors (x2). 9 Use fine screwdriver tool (or similar tool) to carefully lift up black locking clip to rear of driver's airbag module yellow harness connector and detach connector. CAUTION: Store driver's airbag module face up in a safe location whilst the procedure to identify production lot/batch of the steering wheel is carried out.

7 Identification of steering wheel production lot/batch 10 Locate the two round lot/batch dial markings on steering wheel casting and the casting die number. casting die number lot/batch The affected batch can be identified as follows:- The casting die number is "3" (Note: The location of casting number is different for casting dies "1" and "2" but these are NOT affected batches). AND Arrow on left hand dial points to "0" AND Arrow on right hand dial points to "6" AND Year date on right hand dial (displayed either side of arrow) is "12" ROUND DIAL MARKINGS SHOWING LOT/BATCH OF AFFECTED STEERING WHEEL SPECIAL CASE: If the lot/batch is same as above and the left hand dial shows an additional "A" character then this is a non-affected batch. Where an affected batch is identified (i.e. the lot/batch dials and casting die number is same as above) continue with next step of repair procedure and replace the steering wheel. Where a non-affected batch is identified (i.e. the lot/batch dials and/or casting die number is NOT the same as above) or special case, then go to step 15.

8 Removal of steering wheel 11 Rotate steering wheel a short distance until mechanical steering lock engages or use an assistant to hold steering wheel securely. Loosen steering wheel lock nut. 12 Remove steering wheel lock nut and release steering wheel from splined end of steering column. Note: Where steering wheel does not readily separate at taper joint, use steering wheel puller tool (SST: ST ) to separate. CAUTION: Do not move or remove spiral cable assembly located below steering wheel. direction indicator cancellation lug of spiral cable assembly 13 Fit new steering wheel to vehicle. Ensure that driver's airbag module harness is correctly routed through the steering wheel casting. Ensure direction indicator cancellation lug of spiral cable assembly is correctly engaged in locating hole on steering wheel. Align steering wheel "V" alignment marking with steering column end "I" marking. Ensure steering wheel is correctly engaged on splined end of steering column and is fully seated. locating hole for direction indicator cancellation lug steering wheel "V" and steering column end "I" alignment markings 14 Fit steering wheel lock nut and torque tighten to 34.3Nm

9 15 Re-fit yellow harness connector to driver's airbag module and white electrical connectors (x2) to spiral cable assembly. Ensure harness connectors are correctly locked. 15 Re-secure driver's airbag module by pushing on airbag module at a position directly above the clips to engage them. Ensure metal spring clips are correctly engaged. 16 Reconnect vehicle battery and switch ON ignition. Check that airbag warning lamp within combination meter correctly extinguishes within a few seconds. Check that all steering wheel electrical controls function correctly. Re-teach the auto power window function (required after battery disconnect). Re-enter the audio code and presets (required after battery disconnect). Repair Complete
