Affected owners are being notified by mail (see Page 11 for a copy of the letter). IF YOU CONFIRM: ACTIONS: The vehicle is within the applied VIN range by checking Service Comm (P3140) and the customer is requesting replacement of the amplifier. Amplifier Bracket ACTIONS: Replace the Audio Amplifier with the one listed in the Parts Information section of this bulletin. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure (starting on page 3) as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair. 1/11

3 SERVICE PROCEDURE NOTE: Use suitable covers to protect upholstery, carpet, paint, etc. when performing this procedure. Preliminary Steps 1. Record all radio station presets. 2. Roll down both front windows. Reason: When the battery is disconnected (step 4 below) the window will not automatically adjust down slightly when you try to open the door. See Nissan Technical Bulletin NTB for more details (if needed). 3. Make sure the ignition key is in the OFF position. 4. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Parts Removal 5. 4 7. Remove the Spare Wheel/Tire Hold-Down Screw (see Figure 4a), then remove the Spare Wheel/Tire and place it in a clean, safe location (see Figure 4b). PULL UP the Rear Hatch Molding to a point just forward of the Rear Body Cross Member (Strut Tower Brace). See Figure 5. Rear Hatch Molding (PULL UP) Figure 5 TP /11
5 9. Remove the Luggage Area Light (see Figure 6a), then remove the Center Rear Luggage Finisher (see Figure 6b). Place these components in a clean, safe location. 6 11.Remove the Upper LH Strut Cover as follows: A. Use a plastic pry tool to release the clips that secure the Cover (see Figure 8a). B. Carefully lift UP on the Cover to remove it (see Figure 8b). This step will give you clearance for removing the LH Side Luggage Finisher (next step). Pull Back TP Figure 9 Rear Strut Cover (Remove Left Side ONLY) 6/11
7 13.Remove the LH Side Luggage Finisher as follows: A. Remove five plastic fasteners that secure the LH Side Luggage Finisher (see Figure 10a). B. Carefully move the LH Side Luggage Finisher rearward and toward the right until it clears the Rear Strut Cover (see Figure 10b). 8 15.Remove one plastic screw (see Figure 12a) and remove the LH Trunk Side Box by carefully pulling it toward the right (see Figure 12b). 9 17.Turn the Audio Amplifier unit upside down, then remove the three screws that secure the Audio Amplifier to the Mounting Bracket (see Figure 14). Screws Press Here Press Here Audio Amplifier Unit Figure 14 TP Disconnect the wire harnesses from the Amplifier. PRESS DOWN on the tabs shown in Figure Remove the Amplifier from the vehicle. Re-Assembly 20.Install the new Audio Amplifier, making sure the wire harnesses are: Securely reconnected (connector snapped in place) to the Amplifier unit. Properly routed to prevent pinching, rubbing, or chaffing. 21.Re-install all components in the reverse order you removed them. 22.Re-connect the negative battery cable. 23.Re-program all radio station presets. 24.Re-set the clock. Check Audio Operation 25.Confirm the audio system operates properly. 9/11
10 Render Old Amplifier Useless (make it un-useable) CAUTION: Use suitable hand and eye protection when performing the next step. 26.To prevent the old Amplifier from being re-used, use a hammer to break the connectors on the Amplifier (see Figure 15). 11 OWNER S LETTER Dear Nissan Owner: Nissan is committed to providing the highest levels of product quality and customer satisfaction. The AudioPilot noise compensation feature of the Bose audio system installed in your 350Z Touring Model uses a microphone to detect external road noise and automatically adjusts the sound system equalization to compensate for this. Some customers of these vehicles have reported that the noise compensation feature causes the volume and bass to go up and down unexpectedly or that it causes the volume and bass to be exaggerated or excessive at times. WHAT NISSAN WILL DO To ensure satisfaction with your audio system, Nissan, in cooperation with Bose, has launched a Customer Satisfaction Initiative to replace the amplifier with one having an improved noise compensation feature that is more balanced with less noticeable change in the volume and bass. WHAT YOU CAN DO Many of our customers are pleased with the quality and performance of their Bose audio system. If this describes you, no further action is necessary. However, if you would like to have a new amplifier with a more balanced noise compensation feature with less noticeable change in the volume and bass installed in your vehicle, please contact your Nissan dealer at your earliest convenience and schedule an appointment. This free service should take about 2 hours to complete, based upon the dealer s work schedule. Please bring this notice with you to your service appointment.
