2 Product overview The semi-rotary drive DRQD module consists of individual sub-assemblies which can be combined with each other. Special variants can be recognised by the designation on the name plates. For example: DRQD PPVJ-A-FW-Z1-SD62 DRQD-... E.. FW ZW Z1 360 PPVJ P1J YSRJ SD.. E.. Fig. 4 7

3 Function and application The semi-rotary drive DRQD-... is a doubleacting twin-piston drive. When the compressed air ports are pressurised alternately, two pistons arranged in parallel move in the opposite direction backwards and forwards. The linear motion is realised using a pinion in a rotational movement of the drive shaft. Fig. 5 The end position cushioning is done: DRQD-...-PPVJ pneumatically DRQD-...-P1J with flexible shock absorbers DRQD-...-YSRJ with hydraulic shock absorbers The semi-rotary drive with mid-position module DRQD-...-Z1 enables the positioning of the drive shaft in the mid-position between the end positions. The semi-rotary drive DRQD-... is intended for use to rotate or swivel useful loads which have to carry out a defined angular movement Fig. 6 ( 360) (90 ) 90 (180 ) 4 Requirements for product use Note Improper handling can result in malfunctions. Be sure to always comply with the specifications in this chapter. This is the only way to ensure correct and safe product behaviour. Definition moving mass = work load (+ mass of any levers) 8

Compare the maximum values specified in these operating instructions with your actual application (e.g. pressures, forces, torques, temperatures, masses, speeds). Operation of the product in compliance with the relevant safety regulations is contingent on adherence to the load limits. Take into consideration the ambient conditions at the location of use. Corrosive elements in the environment (e.g. ozone) will reduce the service life of the product. Make sure that the compressed air is properly prepared ( Technical data). Maintain the selected medium for the complete service life of the product. Example: always use non-lubricated compressed air. Pressurise your entire system slowly. There will then not be any uncontrolled movements. For slow start-up pressurisation use safety start-up valve type HEL. For vertical installation: Make sure that the slide has reached a stable position when it comes to a stop (e.g. the lowest point or secured with external stops). Please comply with trade association regulations and national and local safety laws and regulations. Remove all transport packaging such as foils, caps and cartons (except for any plugs in the pneumatic connections). The packing is intended for recycling (except for: oiled paper = other waste). Use the product in its original condition without unauthorized modifications. Note the warnings and instructions on the product and in the relevant operating instructions. Take the tolerance of the tightening torques into account. Unless otherwise specified, the tolerance is ±20%. Do not modify any screws or threaded pins unless this is requested in these instructions. For safety reasons they are fixed with screw locking compound. 9

For use of the mid-position module DRQD-...-Z1: Note The DRQD-...-Z1 can be destroyed by incorrect use. Make sure that the following points are observed: The shortest permissible cycle time ( Commissioning) Supply air flow control of the mid-position module. The shortest permissible cycle time of the semi-rotary drive increases through the use of the mid-position module. 5 Transport and storage Take into account the weight of the DRQD: It weights up to 20 kg. 6 Installation Mechanical installation Note Handle the DRQD with care so that the drive shaft is not damaged. This applies in particular to the following points: 1. Place the DRQD so that you can easily reach the operating parts and connections. 2. Fasten the DRQD in one of the following ways: Double screw connector with centring sleeve in the through-holes aa With four screws in the threaded holes 7 Dovetail mounting (only for DRQD-...-SD../-E..). 10

For DRQD with hollow drive shaft: 3. Pull the lines through the hollow drive shaft if necessary. The usable interior diameter for routing of the lines has the following dimensions: DRQD Flanged shaft with energy through-feed (inner) Spigot shaft diameter (inner) [mm] [mm] Fig. 7 For preassembly of the conduit of the flanged shaft with energy through-feed DRQD-...-SD../-E..: Pay attention to the allocation of the individual paired tubings C to the pneumatic push-in fittings A and B. The allocation is indicated by coloured labels as well as (when there is more than one paired tubing) numbered labels on the push-in fittings. A Fig. 8 C B 11

For pretensioning of the open tube ends (for DRQD-...-SD..) for large ranges of rotation ( ): Screw the drive into the end position in the anti-clockwise direction. Bend the open tube ends when they are not tensioned. DRQD-...-SD DRQD-...-SD64 Fig. 9 Turn the tube ends in the anti-clockwise direction into the intended position E as shown in the following Fig. 10. After completion of the procedure described below, the tube should assume the intended position E (e.g. in the cut-out of a adapter plate). DRQD-...-SD DRQD-...-SD64 pretensioned by 90 pretensioned by 180 Fig. 10 This prevents impermissible squeezing of the spirals inside the flanged shaft with energy through-feed for large ranges of rotation ( ). Put the pretensioned tube ends of the spiral tubing into the intended position E (e.g. in the cut-out of an adapter plate). 12

4. When mounting the moveable mass, make sure that the following specifications are fulfilled: Non-tilted installation Permissible lateral force Fy Permissible longitudinal force Fx F x Permissible mass moment of inertia Fig. 11 The mass moment of inertia of the moving mass should be calculated. Lever arms, cantilever axes and masses should be considered in the calculation (maximum permissible values catalogue specifications, 5. Attach the moving mass on to the drive shaft. 6. 14 Adjustment with pneumatic cushioning for DRQD-...-PPVJ Note Be sure to comply with the specifications for the safety components: Do not remove retaining rings (for DRQD ). Turn in the threaded sleeve until it is completely flush to the lock nut (for DRQD-40/50). The safety components are used to limit the maximum permissible rotation angle setting. Impermissible handling of the safety components makes it possible to turn in the threaded sleeve too deeply. DRQD DRQD-40/50 Fig. 14 For adjustment of the end positions: 1. Turn the moveable mass into an end position by hand. 2. Loosen the lock nut of the threaded sleeve (only for DRQD-40/50) 3. Screw in the respective threaded sleeve with an Allen key until the desired end position adjustment has been reached. Fig

The following settings are possible: Handling Reaction Setting range related to factory basic setting (example: DRQD ) Rotating clockwise Reducing the rotation angle - 20 Turning in anticlockwise direction Increasing the rotation angle + 6 Fig. 16 One rotation roughly corresponds to the following rotation angle change. DRQD Angle change per revolution [ ] Fig. 17 Note The DRQD-40/50 can be destroyed by unsecured threaded sleeves. 4. Make sure that the lock nuts of the threaded sleeves are retightened with the specified tightening torque. The tightening torque is 50 Nm. For DRQD , the threaded sleeves are secured by their automatic locking. 5. Repeat the procedure to set the second end position. 15

Adjustment with flexible shock absorbers for DRQD-...-P1J Warning The internal cushioning component or the shock absorber can be expelled (danger of injury). Be sure that the internal cushioning component is not screwed out further than Lmin. Be sure that the shock absorber protrudes by maximum with the dimension Lmax. Fig. 18 DRQD Max. protrusion of Lmax. [mm] Minimum depth of the adjusting screw in the cushioning component Lmin [mm] Fig Handle the shock absorber with care so that the thread is not damaged Completely screw in the internal cushioning component clockwise with an Allen key (factory setting). 3. Unscrew the lock nuts of both shock absorber threaded sleeves Turn the moveable mass against the shock absorber force into an end position by hand. This will cause one of the internal twin pistons to lie against the shock absorber threaded sleeve. 5. Screw the respective threaded sleeve with an Allen key until the desired end position adjustment has been reached. Fig. 20 Fig

The following settings are possible: Handling Reaction Setting range related to factory basic setting (example: DRQD ) Rotating clockwise Reducing the rotation angle á (following table) á Turning in anticlockwise direction Increasing the rotation angle + 6 á Fig. 22 One rotation roughly corresponds to the following rotation angle change. 18 Adjustment with hydraulic shock absorbers for DRQD-...-YSRJ 1. Handle the shock absorber with care so that the thread and the outer cylinder are not damaged. 2. Unscrew the lock nuts of both shock absorber threaded sleeves 8. The smaller lock nut 9 at the shock absorber may not be loosened to set the end positions. 3. Turn the moveable mass against the shock absorber force into an end position by hand. This will cause one of the internal twin pistons to lie against the shock absorber threaded sleeve. 4. Screw in the respective threaded sleeve with an open-ended spanner at the shock absorber lock nut 9 until the desired end position adjustment has been reached. The locking is not released during this. Fig The following settings are possible: Fig. 26 Handling Reaction Setting range related to factory basic setting (example: DRQD ) Rotating clockwise Reducing the rotation angle - 20 Turning in anticlockwise direction Increasing the rotation angle + 6 Fig

One rotation roughly corresponds to the following rotation angle change. DRQD Angle change per revolution [ ] Fig Repeat the procedure to set the second end position. Note The DRQD can be destroyed by unsecured threaded sleeves. 6. Make sure that the lock nuts 8 of both shock absorber threaded sleeves are retightened with the specified torque ( following table). DRQD Tightening torque 8 [Nm] Fig. 29 When the integrated shock absorber has been adjusted: Warning In the range of rotation, be sure that: Nobody can reach into the direction of rotation of the rotation range. No foreign objects can get in there. (e.g. fit your own protective screen) m Fig

Adjustment with the mid-position module for DRQD-...-Z1: 1. Manually press the protruding piston rod ae completely into the mid-position module. ae 2. Insert the long side of the Allen key into the hollow piston rod ae. 3. Rotate both concealed screws af into the piston rods ae as far as possible in an anti-clockwise direction (status as delivered). 4. Turn the respective screw af for adjustment of turning capacity in the clockwise direction until the drive shaft is in the desired mid-position. af ÓÓÓÓ ÓÓÓ When doing this, the following torques are to be maintained: Fig. 31 DRQD Min. torque [Nm] Max. torque [Nm] Width across flats Fig

The following settings are possible: DRQD AR-Z1 DRQD AL-Z1 (B) (A) (A) AR AL Fig. 33 (B) Handling Reaction Max. offset related to factory basic setting Turn screw (A) clockwise Turn screw (B) clockwise Fig. 34 Increasing the rotation angle Reducing the rotation angle One rotation roughly corresponds to the following rotation angle change: DRQD Angle change per revolution [ ] Fig. 35 Note The Allen key can be expelled during pressurisation Pull the Allen key from the piston rod after making the settings. 21

For all DRQD types: Check whether additional shock absorbers are needed. Additional external shock absorbers are necessary in the following cases: for movable masses with a mass moment of inertia greater than the determined permitted mass moment of inertia when the DRQD is operated without an air cushion on the exhaust side (e.g. after long breaks between the individual rotation movements). Fig. 36 Installing the pneumatic system For setting the rotation speed: Use the GRLA one-way flow control valves. These are screwed directly into the compressed air ports. Fig. 37 For eccentric masses: Use the controlled check valve HGL or a compressed air spacer compensation reservoir VZS. In this way you can prevent the moveable mass from sliding down suddenly if there is a sudden drop in pressure. 22

For use of the flanged shaft with energy through-feed DRQD-...-SD../E.. Attach tubing to connections (X) and (Y) Fig. 38. The required tubing dimensions are summarised in the following table. Tube coupling Tube x y Push-in connector (X) 4 mm 6 mm (for DRQD-...-SD6..) Tube spiral (Y) 6 mm (for DRQD-...-SD6..) 4 mm (for DRQD-...-SD4..) 3 mm (for DRQD-...-SD32) Fig. 38 Fig. 39 The allocation of the paired tubings at the tube outlet location (C) to the push-in fittings (A) and (B) is indicated by coloured labels as well as (when there is A more than one paired tubing) numbered labels on the push-in fittings. 24 For use of the mid-position module DRQD-...-Z1: Note Use one-way flow control valves GRLZ (supply air flow control). It is directly screwed into the supply port ah. By doing this, you will avoid overly strong dynamic forces at the twin piston of the mid-position module. Fig. 41 ah Connect the compressed air supply ah. Installation of system technical fittings If both supply ports of the semi-rotary drive are pressurised simultaneously: Note An eccentrically arranged mass and the resetting force of the shock absorbers can lead to an automatic movement. Be sure that the drive shaft of the semi-rotary drive moves freely. For pneumatic control of the DRQD: Use a 5/2 way valve. Fig

For pneumatic control of the DRQD-...-Z1: Use the following way valves (e.g. control according to Fig. 43 or Fig. 44 representation of the mid-position valves actuated): Variant A: Mid-position module Rotary drive Valve type MEH/ MFH MEH-...-B/ MVH-5/3B-1/8-B GRLZ-... 27 7 Commissioning Commissioning of the basic unit When adjusting the DRQD: Warning Within the range of rotation of the movable mass at the DRQD, make sure that: Nobody reaches into the direction of rotation of the moveable mass. No foreign objects are there. m Note Make sure that the following requirements are observed: All adjustment parts are secured by snap rings or lock nuts. The operating conditions are within the permissible ranges. The DRQD is only put into motion with protective devices. The mid-position module with supply air flow control is only actuated when the semi-rotary drive is pressurised ( Control examples are in the chapter Installation System Technical ). Dust or other dirt is kept away from the filter opening bj. For setting the rotation speed: Fig. 48 Fig. 49 bj Note The screw slot can break if the tightening torque is too high. Screw in the adjusting screw (B in Fig. 50) of the end position cushioning only until there is noticeable resistance in the end position. 27

1. Rotate both upstream one-way flow control valves(a) (B) First close completely (A) then open again by about one turn. 2. Rotate the adjusting screws for the end position cushioning (B) at first completely (DRQD-...-P1J/PPVJ), then open again by about 1/4 rotation (only for DRQD-...-PPVJ). Fig Pressurise the drive in one of the following ways: Slow pressurisation of one side Simultaneous pressurisation of both sides with subsequent exhausting of one side 4. Start a test run. 5. Note the necessary corrections to the DRQD settings during the test run. These could be: The range of rotation of the moving mass The rotation speed of the moving mass The end position cushioning 6. Unscrew the one-way flow control valves (A) slowly again until the desired rotation speed has been set. If the desired rotation speed for the DRQD-40/ YSRJ has not been reached, the cushioning time can be reduced by gradual turning out of the shock absorber (about 1 mm per testing procedure). The maximum value is: 6 rotations (10 mm) for DRQD YSRJ 10 rotations (15 mm) for DRQD YSRJ. 7. Open up the adjusting screws for the end position cushioning (B) on both sides until the desired cushioning has been reached. The piston should reach the end position safely, but not strike hard against it. An overly hard impact will cause the piston to bounce out of the end position. (B) (A) When doing this, the cushioning component for the DRQD-...-P1J may not be screwed out more than Lmin ( Chapter Mechanical installation, adjustment with flexible shock absorber, Fig. 19). Fig

If the piston can be heard to strike hard: 8. Interrupt the test run. Causes of metallic knocking may be: Mass moment of inertia of the moving mass too high Rotation speed of the moving mass too high No compressed air cushion on the exhaust side Shock absorber has been screwed out too far (only for DRQD-40/ YSRJ) Cushioning component has been screwed out too far (only for DRQD-...-P1J) 9. Make sure you remedy the above-mentioned causes. 10. Repeat the test run. Once all necessary corrections have been recorded: 11. End the test run. Commissioning mid-position module (not for DRQD-...-P1J) Warning Eye injuries can be caused by extended piston rods. In the positioning range of the DRQD-...-Z1, be sure that: Nobody has his/her head in the direction of operation. There are no foreign objects present (e.g. Allen key in piston rod). Fig. 52 Note Also consider the following points: The mid-position module may not be pressurized if the semi-rotary drive has been pressurised on one side (otherwise the resulting torque will be too low). The maximal permitted mass moments of inertia are observed. Two-sided pressurisation of the supply ports can lead to an automatic movement from: a) An eccentrically arranged useful load b) The resetting force of the shock absorber The minimum cycle time is maintained (for maintaining the maximum permitted mass moment of inertia of the functional variants DRQD-...-PPVJ; Fig. 53). 29

1. Slowly pressurise both supply ports of the semi-rotary drive DRQD. For slow start-up pressurisation use safety start-up valve type HEL. 2. Screw the flow control screw of the GRLZ at the mid-position module: completely in and then open with one rotation. 3. Pressurise the mid-position module. The semi-rotary drive moves to the preset mid-position. 4. Vent the mid-position module. 5. Start a test run at low rotational frequency. Type DRQD-... 31 Commissioning of the fine adjustment of the end positions Complete the following settings while pneumatically pressurised: DRQD type With pneumatic cushioning (for DRQD-...-PPVJ) With flexible shock absorber (for DRQD-...-P1J) With hydraulic shock absorbers (for DRQD-...-YSRJ) With the mid-position module (for DRQD-...-Z1) Instruction text Chapter Mechanical installation and adjustment with pneumatic cushioning : Steps Chapter Mechanical installation and adjustment with flexible shock absorber : Steps Chapter Mechanical installation and adjustment with hydraulic shock absorber : Steps Chapter Mechanical installation and adjustment with mid-position module : Steps Fig. 54 When all stops have been adjusted: Note Be sure that all adjustment parts are secured by snap rings or lock nuts. Repeat the test run. Fig. 55 When setting work has been completed: Do the final adjustment of the proximity switches. 31

8 Operation Warning Within the range of rotation of the movable mass at the DRQD, make sure that: Nobody reaches into the direction of rotation of the moveable mass. No foreign objects are there. m For several uninterrupted rotation cycles: Fig. 56 Note Be sure that the maximum rotation frequencies given in the following table are not exceeded: DRQD ) 50 2) Max. permissible rotation frequency: 1) DRQD PPVJ DRQD PPVJ DRQD PPVJ [Hz] , , , DRQD P1J DRQD P1J DRQD P1J [Hz] DRQD YSRJ DRQD YSRJ DRQD YSRJ [Hz] ) At temperatures of less than 0 C, an upper limit of the maximum frequency of 1 Hz applies to all YSRJ models. 2) Only for reduced cushioning length (procedure Commissioning chapter). Fig. 57 Otherwise, the functional reliability will be impaired by excessive rise in temperature. 32

If the piston can be heard to strike hard in the end position: If possible, increase the cushioning (turn in cushioning component for DRQD-...-P1J or shock absorber for DRQD-40/ YSRJ). Replace the following components if they are worn: Both shock absorber of the DRQD-...-YSRJ ( Disassembly and repair) Both seals and internal cushioning components of the DRQD-...-P1J. 9 Service and maintenance To check the function of the shock absorbers: Complete the following steps: DRQD-... P1J YSRJ Interval 5 million switching cycles 2 million switching cycles Procedure Fig. 58 In case of dirt: 1. Check the cushioning components. In case of audible knocking: 2. Screw in the cushioning components further. If the knocking remains the same despite completely screwing in the cushioning components: 3. Replace the cushioning components and seals (lubricate the cushioning components before installation with, for example, LUB-KC1). 1. Screw out the shock absorber ( Disassembly and repair) and check for oil leaks. 2. Replace the shock absorber if there is visible loss of oil ( Accessories). 3. Screw in the shock absorber again. Clean the DRQD with a soft cloth. Permissible cleaning agents include: Warm soap suds up to +60C Petroleum ether All media which do not damage the materials 33

10 Disassembly and repairs For eccentric masses on the lever arm: Warning The mass will slide down if there is a drop in pressure. Make sure that the mass has reached a stable position before venting (e.g. the lowest point). Fig. 59 Dismantling: Note Make sure that both the semi-rotary drive and the mid-position module are exhausted for disassembly. Overhauling the DRQD Recommendation: Return the product to our repair service for overhaul. The necessary fine adjustments and tests will then be taken into account. Information on spare parts and aids can be found under: 34

For replacement of the integrated cushioning elements/shock absorbers: Proceed as follows: 1. Vent DRQD. 2. Release lock nut at the cushioning component 8/ shock absorber 9 (lock nut of the shock absorber threaded sleeve remains screwed on). DRQD-...-P1J DRQD-...-YSRJ 8 9 Fig Screw out the cushioning component/shock absorber and screw in the new cushioning component/shock absorber up to the stop. 4. Tighten the lock nut at the cushioning component 8/ shock absorber 9 with the tightening torque indicated here: DRQD YSRJ 9 [Nm] P1J 8 [Nm] Fig Accessories Note Please select the appropriate accessories from our catalogue 35
