7 4 Function and application The DRQD-... is a double-acting double piston rotary drive. When compressed air is applied alternately to one connection and then to the other, the two parallel pistons move backwards and forwards in opposite directions to each other. The linear movement is converted into a rotary movement of the drive output shaft by means of a pinion. The end position cushioning is carried out with elastic cushioning elements. Fig. 3 The DRQD-... rotary drive is intended for turning a work load which must perform a defined angular movement ( 180 ). 5 Conditions of use Please note Malfunctioning may occur as a result of incorrect handling. Observe the following instructions for the correct and safe use of the product. Compare the specified limit values with your actual application. The permitted limit values, e.g. for pressures, forces, torques, masses, speeds and temperatures must not be exceeded. Ensure that there is a supply of correctly prepared compressed air. 8 Comply with national and local safety laws and regulations. Remove all packaging. The individual materials can be disposed of in recycling containers (except oil-impregnated paper which cannot be used again). Once the energy medium has been selected, you should retain this for the entire service life of the product. Example: If non-lubricated compressed air is selected, then always use non-lubricated compressed air. Slowly pressurize your complete system. In this way you can avoid uncontrolled movements. Safety start-up valve type HEL-... should be used for slow pressurization when starting. Please observe the warnings and instructions on the product in these operating instructions. Use the product in its original form. Unauthorized modification is not permitted. Leave all screws and threaded pins in their original state if no immediate demand for modification is specified in these instructions. 9 6 Fitting Mechanical Treat the DRQD-... with care so that no damage can occur to the drive output shaft. This applies in particular when you carry out the following: 1. Place the DRQD-... so that the operating parts and connections are always accessible. Fig. 9 Fig Fasten the DRQD-... in one of the following ways: by means of two screws with centring sleeves in the through hole 5 (from the front) or threaded hole 5 (from the rear). by means of dove-tail fastening 1 (only with DRQD-...-SD..). 10 If you use a hollow flanged shaft: 3. Pull the cables required through the hollow shaft. 11 Please note Excessive mechanical stress will damage the DRQD When placing the moving load, make sure that the following specifications are observed: the load must not be fitted askew, the permitted lateral force Fy, the permitted longitudinal force Fx, the permitted mass moment of inertia. 13 4. Fasten the moving load onto the drive output shaft (tightening torque see Fig. 21 and Fig. 22). 14 Please note If the threaded sleeves are screwed in too far, the DRQD-... will be damaged. Make sure that the maximum screw depth is observed (flush with locking nut). Adjusting the end positions: 1. Unscrew the locking nuts 6 of the threaded bolt to be adjusted. 2. Screw the moving load by hand into an end position. 3. Use a hexagon socket wrench to screw in the threaded bolt, until the desired end position is reached. Additional shock absorbers are required in the following cases: with moving loads with a calculated mass moment of inertia higher than the permitted mass moment of inertia when the DRQD-... is operated without an air cushion on the exhaust side (e.g. after long intervals between the individual rotary movements). 16 Pneumatic For setting the rotational speed: Use one-way flow control valves of type GRLA-.../GRLZ-.... These should be screwed directly into the compressed air ports. In the case of eccentric masses: Check whether open-loop controlled nonreturn valves of type HGL-... or a compressed air compensation reservoir of type VZS-... are necessary. In this way you can prevent the moving load from sliding down if there is a sudden drop in pressure. Using the air passage module DRQD-...-SD Connect the tubing to ports (X) and (Y) according to Fig. 36. 18 7 Commissioning When setting the DRQD-...: Warning Make sure that... nobody can place his/her hand in the area of rotation of the DRQD-... no objects are placed in its path (e.g. by fitting a protective grill). m Fig. 38 Please note Make sure that the following points are observed: the threaded bolts are secured with locking nuts (tightening torques see Fitting, mechanical ) the operating conditions are within the permitted limits the DRQD-... must not be operated until protective screens have been installed. Fig. 39 When setting the rotational speed: 1. Close both upstream one-way flow control valves (A) at first completely then open them approximately one turn. (A) Fig Festo b English

19 2. Pressurize the drive according to one of the following methods: slow pressurization of one side, simultaneous pressurization of both sides with subsequent exhausting of one side. For slow pressurization during the starting phase use the safety start-up valve type HEL-.... Fig Start a test run. 4. During the test run check whether the settings on the DRQD-... need to be modified. These could be: rotation range of the moving mass rotation speed of the moving mass. 5. Slowly unscrew the one-way flow control valves until the desired rotation speed is reached. The piston should reach the end position but not strike hard against it. If the piston knocks too hard against the end posiition, it may bounce back out of the end position. If the piston makes a hard knocking sound: 6. Interrupt the test run. The cause of the hard knocking could be: Fig. 42 the mass moment of inertia of the moving mass is too high the rotation speed of the moving mass is too high there is no compressed air cushion on the exhaust side. 7. Make sure that the causes of the knocking are remedied. 8. Repeat the test run. When all necessary modifications have been made: 9. Conclude the test run. Festo b English 19

20 Dynamic accurate adjustment of the end positions: Warning The bolt can be ejected. Make sure that the unscrewing length is not exceeded (see chapter Fitting, mechanical ). You should proceed as follows with the compressed air applied. Leakage will occur when the locking nuts are loosened. When all the stops have been adjusted: make sure that all the adjusting parts are secured with locking nuts (torque see chapter Fitting, mechanical ). Repeat the test run. When all the settings have been completed: You should make final adjustments to the proximity switches. Fig. 43 Fig. 44 S 20 Festo b English

21 8 Operation Please note Make sure that: nobody can place his/her hand in the rotation range of the moving load no objects are in the path of the moving load the piston of the rotary drive does not move against an unpressurized chamber. Fig. 45 m When several rotation cycles have been made without interruption: Please note Make sure that the maximum rotational speeds, as shown in the following table, are not exceeded. 22 9 Care and maintenance If the DRQD-... is dirty: Clean it with a soft cloth. Permitted cleaning agents are: warm soap suds up to + 60 C petroleum ether all non-abrasive cleaning agents. 10 Dismantling and repairs Dismantling: Please note Make sure that the rotary drive is exhausted. In the case of eccentric loads on the lever arm: Please note Make sure that the load reaches a stable position (e.g. the lowest point) before exhausting takes place. Otherwise the load will slide down if there is a sudden drop in pressure. Fig. 47 m m 22 Festo b English
